F1's 11th team - who are Cadillac?

Cadillac will join Formula 1 in 2026 as the 11th team on the grid - but how much do we know about the newcomers?

For starters, Graeme Lowdon - previously at the Virgin and Marussia F1 teams - will be team principal.

There had been speculation former Red Bull boss Christian Horner was in the running for the role - but Cadillac CEO Dan Towriss moved to "shut down that rumour".

"Our support, belief, backing is 100% in Graeme Lowdon," said Towriss, who is also owner of motorsport team Andretti Global.

Cadillac will temporarily purchase and use power units from Ferrari, with General Motors approved by governing body the FIA to build and supply them from 2029.

Their drivers are also known, with Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas signed on multi-year deals.

Perez and Bottas have 106 podium finishes between them but lost their seats at the end of the 2024 season.

Responding to questions on why Cadillac had not opted for younger drivers, Lowdon said signing the experienced duo was a "bold sign of intent".

"Their leadership, feedback, race-hardened instincts and of course their speed will be invaluable as we bring this team to life, he said.

IndyCar race winner Colton Herta, 25, has been named test driver for the team.

The 2026 F1 season begins with the Australian Grand Prix on the weekend of March 6-8.

How did Cadillac join F1?

In November 2024, a deal was agreed by F1 and American car company General Motors for a team to join in the 2026 season, under the Cadillac brand.

GM's deal with F1 was formally approved in March 2025 for a 2026 entry.

It will be a joint effort between GM and its partner TWG, which will run Cadillac's entry in F1.

Former F1 driver Michael Andretti is no longer involved with the team he founded, but his father Mario - 1978 world champion - will take on an advisory role.

GM was attracted into F1 by the new engine regulations that are being introduced next year, along with new chassis rules.

This new Cadillac entry is a revision of the Andretti bid that was rejected in 2024.

F1 was swayed by key factors that it saw as differentiators from the initial Andretti bid.

Andretti's original bid had been approved by governing body the FIA but F1, which holds commercial rights, felt the proposal for entry in 2026 was lacking.

Also, F1 dismissed the argument that the Andretti name would be a compelling addition.

Who is involved with the team?

Lowdon will continue as Cadillac team principal, having joined the team in December 2024.

Former Alpine operations director Robert White also joined Cadillac in 2024 to become the team's chief operating officer.

Head of aerodynamics Jon Tomlinson has previously led the aerodynamics for Williams and Renault, and was involved in the latter's 2005 and 2006 World Championship wins.

John McQuilliam is the chief designer for the new team. He has previously worked for seven F1 teams, including Williams and Jordan.

Technical director Nick Chester was part of Andretti Global before joining Cadillac in January 2025. Prior to that he led the Mercedes Formula E team to back-to-back championship wins in 2020-21 and 2021-22.

Pat Symonds, who was the chief technical officer at Formula 1 from 2017-2024, will serve as the team's executive engineering consultant.

Where will Cadillac be based?

Cadillac has three bases for their F1 team - two in the US and one in England.

Their English base will be at Silverstone, where the British Grand Prix is staged.

They will join seven other teams to have a base in the UK.

Cadillac will use Toyota's wind tunnel facilities in Cologne, Germany.

The team have been given extra aerodynamic development time before their debut in 2026 as their team confirmation was delayed.

While the 2025 season takes place, Cadillac will be busy building the parts to their cars, ready for their debut season.
