Lando Norris ran a little wide earlier and has a moment with the gravel. Nothing major as the McLaren man carries on with his practice session.

Lots of fast laptimes on the board but the McLarens remain at the top.

The Red Bull Ring is the shortest but fastest track on the F1 calendar.

The 4.318km circuit has three DRS zones, so there are plenty of overtaking opportunities for drivers over the 71 laps.

The red soft tyres are coming out now.

The McLarens of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris have taken it in turns to top the leaderboard.

Norris is currently fastest. The championship battle between the team-mates will be an exciting one. Will we see Verstappen in the mix of the championship fight?

George Russell says Mercedes are talking to Max Verstappen about signing him for next season.

The 27-year-old Briton is out of contract with Mercedes next year, and his remarks bring back to the surface a narrative that always threatened to dominate this summer in Formula 1.

World champion Verstappen is under contract to Red Bull until the end of 2028, but the deal is said to have break clauses that the Dutchman could use to exit.

"It's only normal that conversations with the likes of Verstappen are ongoing," Russell told Sky Sports, external, external

"But from my side, if I'm performing as I'm doing, what have I got to be concerned about? There are two seats in every Formula 1 team."

Just over 30 minutes to go of second practice.

Kimi Antonelli has a little moment with the gravel after the final turn. No issues with his car though.

His team-mate George Russell has been speeding down the track, he went fastest on the first sector and goes overall fastest.

Silly season might have come early because George Russell has been asked about when he will sign a new contract with Mercedes.

Lando Norris was whizzing down the track and comes across a slower Max Verstappen. How does he overtake him? On the left-hand side.

"What the hell? Just drives on the left," Verstappen says on the radio.

Worth saying, we've heard Lewis Hamilton complaining on the radio about a lack of pace, we've got Charles Leclerc talking about braking - and now he's gone off.

This is the race where Ferrari have brought their first upgrade since Bahrain, and I've been saying between races they really need this upgrade - entirely new floor - so this is not an encouraging start to this weekend, with a completely new floor in the car, to have the drivers obviously struggling in such a way.

Lewis Hamilton had been on the radio to the Ferrari team to say: "For some reason I've got no pace."

He doesn't seem happy with the car. Kimi Antonelli was on a fast lap and nearly ran into the Ferrari driver.

"I didn't see Kimi at all," Hamilton says.

Oh dear, Charles Leclerc has little grip on his tyres and runs wide in Turn Three and then into the gravel in Turn Six.

He manages to get back on to the track and returns to the Ferrari garage, not the start he wanted to his first session.

Slightly slow from Red Bull sending Max Verstappen out for the FP2 session but a few mechanics were working at the back of the Red Bull, so, I wonder if there was something they wanted to have a look at, before he headed out?

No time to waste for Lando Norris, the McLaren driver has got back into his seat, after letting rookie Alex Dunne have a drive.

The Brit is the fastest driver out on track, setting a time of 1:05.538.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen has put his helmet on and joined the pack out on the circuit.

It looks like we've got a tailwind now going up to Turn Three, so exit of Turn One, up to Turn Three. And early on in the day, we had a crosswind going up to Turn Three. It's not too strong, but clearly something George Russell is feeling. And actually, if you don't get told it on the radio, you can spot it by all the flags.

Now it is early into FP2 but McLaren's Oscar Piastri has gone fastest with a lap time of 1:06.129.

Mercedes duo George Russell and Kimi Antonelli are behind him in P2 and P3.

I do feel for Antonelli, imagine having a mini press conference after you've sat your exams! I would have hated that after my Maths GCSE exams...

Lando Norris is leaving the McLaren garage. They've taken a bit of time to get him strapped in to the cockpit, but there are so many cameramen around, trying to to get the shot of him in the McLaren, trying to increase the pressure, if you like, because there have been so many questions about Norris' mindset and his race craft coming into this weekend, off the back of what happened in Canada two weeks ago. People really questioning his ability, but he's been succesful around here, a fast driver.

A mix of hard and medium tyres are being used in second practice.

Lando Norris, who is taking part in his first session, is up to fifth spot. His car has come with upgrades for Austria and it's his first time testing it out.

Meanwhile, Liam Lawson is back in the Racing Bulls garage so his engineers can take a look at his car.

The first lot of cars have made their way on to the Red Bull Ring circuit.

Liam Lawson has been on the radio to say "something is not right" with his steering wheel.

One driver who isn't on track is Max Verstappen, his Red Bull currently has engineers around it, while he watches on.

You might notice that the engineer speaking to Max Verstappen is not his usual race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase.

Lambiase is unavailable for the Austrian Grand Prix, so in his place is Simon Rennie.

Rennie has previously worked with various drivers, including Fernando Alonso, Kimi Raikkonen, Mark Webber and Daniel Ricciardo.
