All-Ireland Football qualifier: London 0-11 2-22 Cavan
- Published
Cavan had little difficulty accounting for London in Saturday's All-Ireland Football qualifier at Ruislip.
Five points from Niall McDermott and two apiece from Thomas Corr and Gearoid McKiernan helped the Breffni county lead 0-11 to 0-4 at half-time.
McKiernan's goal extended Cavan's lead to 1-17 to 0-7 with Dara McVeety scoring the second goal.
The only negatives from Cavan's point of view were the injuries sustained by Killian Clarke and Rory Dunne.
Clarke was back in the Cavan line-up after missing the Ulster SFC defeat by Monaghan because of a hamstring injury.
London, who included former Cavan panellist Lorcan Mulvey, showed plenty of endeavour but were no match for a businesslike Breffni side.
The home team's chances weren't helped by an early black card for Caoimhin Carty.
Two McDermott points helped Cavan take a 0-5 to 0-2 lead and McKiernan's impressive play contributed to that advantage being extended to 0-11 to 0-4 by the interval.
The margin was still seven (0-14 to 0-7) when the game was held up early in the second half because of an injury suffered by Dunne.
McKiernan's 57th-minute goal extended Cavan's advantage to 1-17 to 0-7 after a Michael Argue shot had been blocked by London keeper Declan Traynor.
Argue then squared for McVeety to palm in Cavan's second goal seven minutes from time as they safely progress to Monday's second-round qualifier draw.
