Jamie Clarke scored 2-4 in a superb display against Wicklow

Jamie Clarke hit two late goals to help Armagh to a deserved victory over Wicklow in the All-Ireland SFC round one qualifier at the Athletic Grounds.

The Ulster hosts dominated from the start and Clarke scored four first-half points, but John McGrath's goal kept Wicklow in touch.

Armagh led 0-9 to 1-2 at the break and Wicklow closed the gap to one point after a James Stafford goal.

Clarke's classy double in the last five minute sealed the win for Armagh.

Armagh were forced into a late change with defender Brendan Donaghy coming in for captain Ciaran McKeever.

It was all so easy for the Orchard men as Aidan Forker and Andrew Murnin pointed before Clarke added two more.

Wicklow, who were guilty of wasteful finishing, finally registered a score through Darren Hayden.

Micael McKenna's restored Armagh's four-point advantage before McGrath netted in the 25th minute.

A high ball was deflected to McGrath and he fired into the corner of the net.

Paul Cronin brought Wicklow level but Armagh finished the half strong with Ethan Rafferty and Murnin points to go with another Clarke double.

Ciaran Hyland reduced the deficit to three on the restart only for Ethan Rafferty to respond with a free.

A Cronin free and Conor McGraynor point for the Leinster men was quickly followed by scores from Stefan Campbell and McKenna.

Wicklow made it a two-point game with Cronin twice on target but again Armagh halted their momentum as Forker and McKenna tagged on points.

Stafford toe-poked in on 56 minutes to leave Wicklow just a point back, but it would prove to be their last score.

Ethan Rafferty hit two points and Caolan Rafferty another but it was Clarke's brilliance which lit up the game's finale.

The Crossmaglen forward's first goal was sublime as he waltzed through the Wicklow defence before blasting in.

And he ensured Armagh's place in Monday's second-round draw with another clinical finish a minute from time.
