Peter Harte's second-half penalty gave Tyrone a two-point comeback win over Meath in the All-Ireland qualifier.

A poor first half at Healy Park ended with Meath leading 0-4 to 0-3 and they moved two in front on the restart.

Tyrone were still trailing by a point when Harte fired his 53rd-minute penalty into the top corner.

The momentum shifted to the Ulster hosts and impressive substitute Tiernan McCann was among the scorers as Tyrone secured a place in the third round.

Tyrone had a stiff breeze at their backs in the first half but a defensive set-up and errant finishing meant they failed to capitalise.

It was an error-strewn affair and with Meath also employing a conservative approach, scores were few for the spectators in Omagh.

Two points from Red Hands forward Sean Cavanagh were the only scores until the 29th minutes, when Meath rattled off four in a row.

Donncha Tobin and Graham Reilly slotted over before two Mickey Newman frees put the Leinster men in control.

Mark Bradley reduced the gap to two before the break but Brian McMahon restored the two-point advantage early in the second half.

Tyrone drew level through points from Connor McAliskey and Harte before the game's turning point came after a foul on McCann, who along with Darren McCurry proved an effective second-half substitute.

Harte despatched the spot-kick with aplomb and the Red Hands grew in confidence, although Graham Reilly was next on target for Meath.

Ronan McNabb made it 1-6 to 0-7 and Kevin Reilly made it a one-point game before two quick Tyrone points from Bradley and McCann.

Graham Reilly kept Meath in touch but Bradley and McCurry, who was black-carded with seconds remaining, stretched the lead to four.

Brian Renton and Kevin Reilly registered late Meath points but it was in vain as Tyrone went through to Monday morning's 3B draw.

"It didn't look pretty for us at half-time - we didn't take our chances but we were still in the game," said Tyrone boss Mickey Harte.

"The goal was crucial and the fact we are in Monday's draw it all that matters."
