Farney forward Kieran Hughes has announced his retirement from inter-county football after winning two Ulster titles with Monaghan.
The 33-year-old made his senior debut in 2009 and played in the provincial triumphs in 2013 and 2015.
Hughes helped Scotstown to the Ulster club final last month.
He told the Irish News , externalhis body "is not able to do this anymore, to go from club to county in such quick succession".
Hughes scored three points as Monaghan ended a 25-year wait for an Anglo-Celt Cup success by beating Donegal in the 2013 final.
He was was also in the Farney side which again overcame Donegal in the decider two years later.
Hughes, who has been hit with hamstring and knee injuries in recent seasons, featured for Monaghan as they reached the All-Ireland semi-final last year.
The absence of Hughes is a further blow for Monaghan boss Vinnie Corry with Karl Gallagher joining AFL side Adelaide Crows while goalkeeper Rory Beggan will miss part of the National League campaign as he is going to America to compete in an NFL combine.
However, Hughes' brother Darren and star forward Conor McManus will both be available for Monaghan this year.
Monaghan take on Dublin in their Division One opener at Croke Park on 27 January.
