The European Tour could change its logo to feature Seve Ballesteros, who died on 7 May aged 54 after three years battling the effects of a brain tumour.

Currently the image is a silhouette of six-times Open winner Harry Vardon, but several high-profile players want it redesigned to honour Ballesteros.

The Tour is keen to pay tribute to the Spaniard and said the idea was being "actively considered".

It also noted the "wave of emotion" generated by Ballesteros' death.

Former Ryder Cup captains Colin Montgomerie and Sir Nick Faldo are among those who have called for an image of Ballesteros to replace that of Vardon - who won his record Open haul between 1896 and 1914.

The full statement from the Tour read: "The sad death of Severiano Ballesteros has generated a wave of emotion regarding Seve's unique contribution to the development of The European Tour, and the many ways in which the Tour could honour Seve's memory.

"An announcement will be made shortly regarding the Seve Trophy, to be played in September, and other options, including changing the Tour's logo, are actively being considered for consultation with the tournament committee."
