American teenager Lexi Thompson, 16, has become the youngest professional winner of a Ladies European Tour event after clinching the Dubai Ladies Masters by four shots.

The only younger winner on the tour was Amy Yang, who triumphed in the ANZ Ladies Masters as an amateur in 2006., external

Florida-based Thompson had earlier won the Navistar LPGA Classic on the American tour three months ago.

"It feels amazing," she said after her five-under-par, final-round 67.

"I've been working on my game really hard and it's paid off. I'm just trying to improve every tournament."

South Africa's Lee-Ann Pace, who eventually finished second, had threatened Thompson's lead before the American fired four birdies on the back nine.

Sweden's Sophie Gustafson was third, a shot behind Pace, while Wales' Becky Morgan was a shot further back in a three-way tie for fourth.
