Top-five place for Paul Casey in Perth International

Paul Casey had not finished in the top five of a European Tour event for almost a year

Paul Casey shot a final-round 67 to tie for fifth at the Perth International, a European Tour event, as American Bo van Pelt claimed a maiden Tour title.

It is the first time Casey has finished in the top five of a Tour event since his fourth in Shanghai 11 months ago.

Van Pelt finished two strokes clear of Jason Dufner, with Spain's Alejandro Canizares five back in third.

Casey was joined by fellow British players David Howell, Scott Jamieson and Rhys Davies in a share of fifth.

Van Pelt took a one-shot lead into the final round after ending day three with a huge 60-foot putt on the 18th and signed for a 68 on Sunday to extend his lead over US Ryder Cup player Dufner by another shot and seal the win.

Casey surged into the top 10 at the end of the third day and although his late rally came too late for a title challenge, it did elevate him towards the top end of the leaderboard.

The 35-year-old dislocated his shoulder in a snowboarding accident last winter and dropped to 133rd in the world rankings before finishing third in last week's Shinhan Donghae Open on the Korea Golf Tour.

Van Pelt, who has also won once on the US Tour at the U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee in 2009, said: "Jason and I had a great battle and played well. "It definitely got tight there at the end but luckily for me I came out on top.

"Lake Karrinyup was a great test of golf all week. It's been a battle; the wind blew, the greens were firm and fast, and it was just a joy to play all week."
