Gareth Maybin ends Abu Dhabi Championship on two under par

Gareth Maybin shot a final round of 73 to end the Abu Dhabi Championship in a tie for 39th position on two under par.

The Ballyclare golfer began his round with two bogeys, but recovered to post birdies on the fourth and fifth holes, before carding a bogey at the 13th.

Padraig Harrington and Peter Lawrie finished best of the Irish competitors on five under, with Michael Hoey on two over following a one-under-par 71.

Irish Open winner Jamie Donaldson won the tournament on 14 under.

The Welshman finished one shot ahead of Dane Thorbjorn Olesen and Justin Rose.

Harrington fired a closing 69 on Sunday, with Lawrie shooting a 70,

Rory McIlroy and Darren Clarke both missed the halfway cut.

World number one McIlroy missed the cut after a 76 on Friday left the Holywood star on a disappointing six over.

Former Open champion Clarke also exited the tournament with the Dungannon man on 10 over after a second-round 75.
