American Michelle Wie and South Korean Amy Yang share a four-shot lead heading into the final round of the US Women's Open at Pinehurst.

Overnight leader Wie shot a two-over-par round of 72, with Yang carding an impressive 68 to move level on two under par.

Northern Ireland's Stephanie Meadow is part of a four-woman group in a tie for third, four shots back on two over par.

American Juli Inkster, who turns 54 next week, shot 66 to move to two over.

Scotland's Catriona Matthew fell out of contention with a 75 that leaves her nine over par, while England's Jodie Ewart Shadoff is 15 over after a round of 78.

Wie started the day with a three-shot lead over fellow American Lexi Thompson.

But after securing a third birdie of her round on the 10th to move two under for the day, she dropped four shots in four holes before picking up pars at the final four.

Yang took advantage with a round that included six birdies and four bogeys to move level with Wie.

Looking for a first win in a major championship, Wie insists she is relishing the pressure going into the final round.

Twenty-two-year-old Stephanie Meadow from Northern Ireland is in a tie for third on her US Open debut

She told the Golf Channel: "I didn't drive it well in a couple of holes and you can't be in the trees here but I grinded and made a couple of par putts and I can't complain.

"You don't sleep well [as leader] but it's fun and I'd rather be nervous on the first than not be in contention.

"I'm just grateful to have the opportunity and a chance to win."

Meadow, playing her first professional event, recorded five birdies in a hugely impressive performance at the same venue where the men's US Open took place.

The Northern Ireland woman, 22, moved to within striking distance of the leaders after 10 holes of her round following five birdies and only one dropped shot over her opening 10 holes.

Bogeys at the 11th, 15th and 16th meant that she had to be content with a one-under round of 69 but it still represented a superb performance by Meadow who ended her amateur career in Great Britain & Ireland's recent Curtis Cup defeat.
