Women's British Open: Michelle Wie misses cut

US Open champion Michelle Wie has missed the halfway cut at the Women's British Open.

The world number six's round of 78, six-over-par, left her on nine over with the cut on six over.

American Mo Martin shot a second consecutive round of 69 for the halfway lead on six under.

The 31-year-old, who has just one top-10 finish in 63 career LPGA starts, lies three shots ahead of Spain's Beatriz Recari and Korea's So Yeon Ryu.

Recari carded a superb 67 which featured one bogey and six birdies, three of them coming on the last three holes, while Ryu recovered from a double bogey on the second with birdies on the fourth, 10th, 11th and 18th to return a 70.

World number three Inbee Park, who won three major championships last season, and former Kraft Nabisco champion Morgan Pressel are among those in contention on level par.

England's Georgia Hall is the best-placed home player after adding a 72 to her opening 73 to lie one over par alongside defending champion Stacy Lewis, while 50-year-old Dame Laura Davies was two shots further back after a 72.

Scotland's Vikki Laing produced the shot of the day, holing a five-wood from 240 yards for an albatross on the par-five 17th on her way to a 68, a 10-shot improvement on her opening round, and she is one shot better off than Davies on two over.

Overnight leader Ayako Uehara fell away badly with a round of 79 and she is also on three over, one ahead of New Zealand's Lydia Ko, the world number two.

Charley Hull's challenge faltered with a 76 for a halfway total of five over, while Northern Ireland's Stephanie Meadow, who finished third on her professional debut at the US Open last month, also missed the cut on nine over, along with Holly Clyburn, Jodi Ewart Shadoff and Florentyna Parker.
