England's Matt Ford shot an opening 67 to sit three strokes off the lead on the opening day of the Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa.
Five birdies and an eagle earned Ford a share of second alongside South African 2011 Masters champion Charl Schwartzel and Zimbabwe's Mark Williams.
South Africa's Christiaan Basson shot an error-free 64 to lead on eight under par at Leopard Creek Golf Course.
Bad weather saw play halted for the day with 39 players still on the course.
Schwartzel was among those and will have to play the 18th before starting his second round on Friday.
The tournament at the Leopard Creek Country Club is the opening event of the 2015-16 European Tour season.
