Michael Hoey misses European Open cut by one shot after firing second-round 72

Michael Hoey has missed 17 cuts in his 24 European Tour events this year

Michael Hoey suffered another missed cut at the fog-affected European Open in Germany after a second-round 72 saw him exiting by one shot.

Hoey's one-over round left him on three under in the fog-affected event which has been reduced to 54 holes.

The Belfast man went into this week's event 183rd in the Race to Dubai and over 156,000 Euro outside the 110th spot which will secure a card for 2017.

The five-time European Tour winner has missed 17 cuts in 24 events this year.

Hoey's only top-10 finish of the season came at the Paul Lawrie Match Play event in Scotland when he reached the last 16.

With events running out for Hoey, he looks likely to be facing a trip to the Tour School in November.

Wicklow man Paul Dunne will go into the final day sharing 12th place on eight under after adding a 68 to his opening 66.

Dunne is currently 107th in the order of merit and a good finish on Sunday could go a long way to retaining his European Tour card.

The reduction of the event to three rounds means French leader Alexander Levy did not hit a ball on Saturday after carding rounds of 62 and 63 over the opening two days.

Levy's 17-under-par left him four ahead of Sweden's Michael Jonzon with Ross Fisher on 12 under and Martin Kaymer a further stroke back.

Padraig Harrington joined Hoey is missing the cut by a shot after a 68 left him on three under while Derryman Ruaidhri McGee exited on two under after rounds of 69 and 71.
