Britain's Louis Smith and Dan Purvis have won individual gold medals at the Olympic test event in London.

Smith produced an impressive routine on the pommel horse to take first place ahead of countryman Max Whitlock who won silver.

Purvis won the floor final with fellow Briton Kristian Thomas taking bronze.

The individual success comes after Great Britain qualified a full team for the London Olympics for the first time since Barcelona 1992 on Tuesday., external

"It probably was one of my cleanest routines," said Smith who won Britain's first Olympic medal in 100 years four years ago at the Beijing Games.

"I don't know how I did it with the preparation which was a bit stop and start.

"I think I've gained a lot of experience in the past couple of years and I think it showed there.

"I really had to concentrate tonight with the added pressure of home advantage but it went really well. I'm pleased.

"The crowd got behind me and Max and it was really nice to be able to do that routine under that type of pressure knowing the Olympics is going to be here in six months."

Purvis added: "It's been an amazing start to the year. Making the final today was a bonus but the main job was done once we sealed the Olympic team place on Tuesday.

"I feel like I'm getting used to this arena now, it's almost like being at a football match as everyone's cheering for you and I'm loving it."

Whitlock, who was making his senior GB debut in this week's competition said: "I was quite nervous being first up. I wanted to do a clean routine on the pommel horse and I did, so that made me happy.

"Now I can give my mum and my girlfriend the flowers that you get as a medallist - one each."

Britain's Rebecca Tunney, who was competing in her first senior competition to gain experience, finished sixth in the uneven bars final.
