Great Britain's men made a winning start at the World League Final in Raipur with victory over Canada.

Simon Mantell opened the scoring from close range for GB in the first minute, only for Canada to equalise soon after.

Mantell got his second in a similar fashion before Alastair Brogdon deflected Nick Catlin's shot into the net to seal a comfortable 3-1 win.

On Sunday, GB play the world number one team, Australia, in their second of three pool games.

Mantell's goals were his first in GB colours after more than a year out recovering from a concussion.

"First of all, it's the three points we needed but there's still stuff to work on and we could have got some more goals," Mantell told BBC Sport.

"From a personal point of view it's nice to get on the scoresheet and just be out there playing again, so I'm really enjoying it."

Catlin believes Australia will provide a much stiffer test than the 14th-ranked Canadians.

"Australia bring an incredible intensity throughout and we'll have to match that if we're to get a positive result," he said.

The Brits complete their pool matches against Belgium on Tuesday.
