England lost 3-2 to Belgium in the battle for bronze at the men's EuroHockey Championship in Amsterdam.
Tom Boon put the Belgians ahead through a penalty stroke but Sam Ward levelled it up just after the break.
Thomas Briels restored Belgium's lead and Boon crucially added a second before Ward pulled a goal back.
Meanwhile in the women's draw, England overcame Scotland 3-1 in their play-off game to secure World Cup qualification with a fifth-placed finish.
Izzy Petter put Mark Hager's England side ahead after just three minutes, with Scotland levelling through McKenzie Bell just before the half-hour mark.
Lily Owsley restored England's lead before half-time before sealing victory with her second in the 42nd minute.
