Wales' Gareth Furlong says he is relishing the opportunity to impress after being selected in the GB centralised hockey programme.

Furlong's inclusion in the programme comes ahead of the FIH Pro League and Paris 2024 Olympics.

Rupert Shipperley, Jacob Draper and Toby Reynolds-Cotterill are the other Wales internationals selected.

"I'm obviously really happy to be given the opportunity to develop my hockey on a full time basis," Furlong said.

"I'll certainly be looking to make the most of the opportunity moving towards Paris 2024 this summer."

Defender Furlong, 31, has won 148 senior outdoor caps for Wales since his international debut in 2010.

"We are delighted to hear about Gareth's inclusion into the GB men's squad at an exciting time ahead of a busy International summer and the build up to the Olympic Games," Hockey Wales Performance Director Kevin Johnson added.

"It is particularly pleasing that Gareth's consistent contributions in a Wales shirt at the highest level of tournaments in recent years have been recognised."
