Elite League champions the Belfast Giants proved too strong for Nottingham in Wednesday's Challenge Cup final dress-rehearsal at the Odyssey Arena.

First-period goals from man of the match Chris Higgins and Jeffrey Szwez set Belfast on their way to a 4-1 success in the Elite League game.

Kevin Saurette made it 3-0 with David Phillips completing the scoring after Robert Farmer's Panthers reply.

Belfast will host Nottingham in the Challenge final first-leg on 21 March.

The sides will then meet 24 hours later in another Elite League clash before the Challenge Cup final second leg in Nottingham on 25 March.

Before the three games against Nottingham, Belfast have two league games this weekend.

Paul Adey's side are away to Fife on Saturday night (19:00 GMT) before Sunday's home game against Braehead (16:00).
