Belfast Giants beaten by Braehead Clan in shoot-out

Belfast Giants were defeated by Braehead Clan on penalties in Saturday night's Challenge Cup game in Scotland.

Goals from Evan Cheverie and Ray Sawada put the league champions in control before Neil Trimm started a Clan comeback by netting in the 19th minute.

Lee Esders equalised in the second period and Derek Roehl put the hosts ahead early in the third period.

Robby Sandrock popped with an equaliser a minute from time but Braehead prevailed in the shoot-out.

The Giants are away to Edinburgh Capitals in the Challenge Cup on Sunday.

Belfast started their defence of the Elite League title on Friday night with a 4-1 away victory over Dundee Stars.

Sawada, Craig Peacock, Darryl Lloyd Evan Cheverie were on target for the Giants, with Brad Plumton scoring for Dundee in a game which also counted towards the Challenge Cup group stages.
