The Sheffield Steelers completed a weekend Elite League double over the Belfast Giants with a 3-1 victory on Saturday night.

On Friday they thumped the Giants 6-2 and this latest success consolidates their second place in the league, two points behind Cardiff.

Brandon Benedict opened the scoring for the Giants but Jeff Legue equalised for the Steelers in the first period.

Tyler Mosienko and Mathieu Roy netted for Sheffield in the second period.

The Giants slip five points behind Cardiff, but have two games in hand.

In Saturday's rematch, the Belfast Giants started as if they meant to make immediate amends for Friday's setback.

Benedict deflected a Derrick Walser shot into the net early in the first period, rousing the majority of the big crowd at the SSE Arena.

Legue got the Steelers level after a frantic scramble in front of Stephen Murphy's goal.

The Steelers then stunned the Giants as they struck twice within 39 seconds in the second period, to the delight of the vociferous section of travelling supporters, with goals from Mosienko and Roy.
