The Giants were playing their first home game of the Elite League season

Belfast Giants lost a two-goal lead as they were edged out 3-2 in overtime by Cardiff Devils in their first Elite League home game of the season.

Goals from Steve Saviano and Michael Forney put Belfast 2-0 up within 14 minutes before Sean Bentivoglio replied late in the first period.

After a scoreless second period, Andrew Hotham levelled eight minutes into the final period.

Patrick Asselin hit Cardiff's winner in the third minute of overtime.

Belfast are next in action in Saturday's Challenge Cup home game against Braehead.
