Cardiff Devils extended their winning run against Scottish opposition to keep the pressure on Elite League leaders Sheffield Steelers.

Second-placed Devils comfortably beat third-placed Dundee Stars thanks to a second period blitz.

Cole Sanford netted and struck againt after Jamie Arniel and Brandon Alderson in the space of less than four minutes.

Ryan Valentini and Brendan Harms hit back late for Stars either side of Devils' fifth by Marcus Crawford.

Victory was Cardiff's 11th successive win against teams from Scotland, a run that stretches back to a loss at Glasgow in January.

Dundee, meanwhile, had won five of their last six games in all competitions to climb the standings but were stopped in their tracks by their visitors.

Both sides traded 27 shots between them in the first period but neither side could find the back of the net.

Devils' Sam Duggan should have done better with an early chance though netminder Ben Bowns was showing the same form that brought a second shutout of the season against Fife Flyers on Sunday.

Bowns produced an impressive double save in the 13th minute to deny both Spencer Naas and Ryan Valentini.

However Devils found their aim to seize control with four goals in the second period.

Trevor Cox twice set up Sanford while Cole Ully had a hand in goals for Arniel and Alderson.

With both team down to four players midway through the third period, Valentini combined with Naas for an easy finish past Bowns before Crawford and Harms exchanged late goals.

Devils remain second, level on 18 points with Steelers, who have a game in hand over the Welsh team.
