Leaders Cardiff Devils lost 3-1 at Belfast Giants, falling to their second Elite League defeat of the season despite taking the lead.
Kristoff Kontos put Devils ahead in the opening period but Jake Gaudet levelled for Giants in the second period.
Jordan Kawaguchi put the hosts in front with less than eight minutes remaining and as Devils chased the game, David Goodwin sealed the win by firing into an empty net in the final seconds
Devils host Manchester Storm in the league on Saturday evening and are away to Guildford Flames in a Challenge Cup match the following evening - with Devils already eliminated.
