Cardiff Devils suffered a second successive Elite League defeat going down 5-1 at Nottingham Panthers on Wednesday.

Logan Neilson and Sam Herr both struck in the opening period to put Panthers in control.

Cardiff responded through Riley Brandt in the second period but Tim Doherty restored the home side's two-goal advantage.

Matthew Alfaro added a fourth before Herr scored his second of the night to lift Nottingham up to second in the table on the back of three straight wins.

Cardiff remain fourth and return to action against leaders Belfast Giants at the Vindico Arena on Friday (19:30 GMT).
