    Alessio Luciani scores the empty netter to round of the scoring but netminder Mat Robson is the hero for the Blaze with an incredible save on PO Morin with 17 seconds left.

    The net was gaping and Robson managed to pull out a stunning stop.

    Head scratcher for the Giants this one. Two points were there for the taking but somehow they couldln’t put the Blaze away in the first period and it came back to bite them.

    Coventry are now four wins from four while the Giants fall to 2-2 and nine points behind Cardiff albeit with four games in hand but you’d rather have the points.

    Giants head to Nottingham tomorrow. Coventry face Cardiff at home.

    Giants dominated the first and the Blazers the second and suddenly it’s another close game at the SSE Arena.

    The last two games here have gone to OT and one to a shootout and we may be heading the same way tonight.

    Kyle Osterberg gets two minutes for slashing and the Blaze have the opportunity to tie the game on the powerplay.

    One game note - Giants Bobo Carpenter returned for the second period after that knock in the early stages of the game.

    After receiving treatment for an injury the Blaze netminder Mat Robson has been lights out, keeping his side in the game and allowing them to close the gap to a goal.

    Can he keep it up?

    The Giants out-shot the Blaze 21-8 in the first period but only lead by a goal.

    Can they keep up the pressure?

    The Giants came out flying and played their best first period of the season.

    They had 21 registered shots and plenty of others that missed the net.

    Yet that late Coventry goal takes the gloss of the performance a little bit.

    You can’t take any lead for granted in this sport, long way to go.

    The Blaze are back in the game, the goal coming after a barrage of chances for the Giants at the other end as they failed to take advantage of a powerplay.

    Then the Blaze go up ice, Tom McCollum appears to have made a save only for his team mate Ciaran Long to crash into him and dislodge the puck and it ends up in the net.

    Chase Gresock gets credit for the goal.

    With 11:40 remaining in the first period another Giants rush up ice results in a Mat Robson save but Ben Lake is on hand to knock the puck into the net on his backhand.

    Robson is hurt and receiving lengthy treatment.

    He may have been caught on the side of the head as he made the save but he is continuing in the game. He’s already faced ten shots and we aren’t halfway through the first period.

    The officials reviewed the goal and any contact with the Blaze netminder but the goal stands and we are back underway.

    Jordan Kawaguchi skated down centre ice leaving Blaze players in his wake but the outside of the post denied him a super solo effort.

    However Bobo Carpenter has left the ice after falling heavily into the boards.

    The Giants got the news this week that Joe Cassetti would be a long term absentee so they’ll hope Carpenter has just had the wind knocked out of him.
