In the end a well deserved win for the Belfast Giants.
After all the excitement and intensity of the second period the Steelers didn’t really have the pushback in the third period you would have expected although they did play in Glasgow last night.
The Giants were on top of their game despite going behind and saw it out comfortably in the end.
The crowd of 7120 enjoyed a game between two top sides that had a little of everything.
The Steelers eight game winning streak comes to an end while the Giants can go top of the Elite League for the first time if they can beat Manchester tomorrow.
We’ll be back for that one with coverage starting at 3.45pm

Scramble in front of the Steelers net but did the puck cross the line before Greenfield snagged it?
From my angle….no it didn’t
And for once, I was right….

Both sides want this win so badly and that has led to a bit of a cagey start to the final period.
You get the feeling the tempo is about to pick up however

Game got feisty in the second period
Belfast Giants 3-2 Sheffield Steelers
The second period buzzer still doesn’t stop players squaring up at centre ice before they’re told to head to the locker rooms.
The Steelers especially aren’t happy.
Still the game hangs in the balance though with 20 minutes remaining.

The Boston Celtics would have been proud as Mike Lee sets up the pick and roll play, no interference call, and Gabe Bast’s tape to tape pass picks out Bobo Carpenter who applies the finishing touch.

Which side carries the momentum into the second period?
Neither, I would suggest, this game is just too tight to call.

Here's how Grant Mismash made it 1-1 before the break.

Belfast Giants 1-1 Sheffield Steelers
Until the later powerplay marker from Grant Mismash the Giants looked like they would never find a way past Matt Greenfield because of bad luck and great goaltending.
But they did and 1-1 is probably a more fair reflection of the opening 20 minutes considering the Giants have out-shot the Steelers 19-6

Just what the doctor ordered for the home side after they’d missed a couple of really good chances.
