BBC Wales Sport's Dafydd Pritchard in Paris: "It's not only Glasgow where there is a bustling athlete's village this summer.
"At the French Rugby Federation's headquarters in Marcoussis - some 20 miles south of Paris - the Women's Rugby World Cup gets under way today. It is an impressive place. Like England's hub of football development at St George's Park, Marcoussis is rugby's equivalent in France, producing stars such as Mathieu Bastareaud and Morgan Parra.
"At the heart of the complex is its main stadium with a grandstand to hold a few thousand fans, and surrounding it are outer pitches for non-televised games as well as accommodation for players and state-of-the-art training facilities.
"Being in France, players and assorted media do not have to go far before they are offered wine and cheese, though the athletes tend to opt for protein shakes and the searing heat means even the press are choosing to eschew the wine for water."
Taarabt to get QPR chance
QPR manager Harry Redknapp says Adel Taarabt is part of his plans for the coming season.
The forward spent part of last season on loan at AC Milan but has been included in The R's pre-season tour to Ireland.
"At this moment he is part of our plans for the season, unless someone comes in and pays the money that the club want," says Redknapp, who also confirmed striker Loic Remy will join the squad on Sunday. A proposed move to Liverpool fell through recently, while Newcastle are keen on the striker who spent part of last season on loan at St James' Park.

Manager Alan Pardew hopes Newcastle United can complete a deal to sign Shakhtar Donetsk striker Facundo Ferreyra on loan.
The 23-year-old Argentine is one of six Shakhtar players who have opted not to return to Donetsk, a Ukrainian city currently held by pro-Russian rebels. Pardew is keen to add a forward to his squad, with six signings already made.
"It's something that is not done, but we're working to see if that can happen," Pardew tells BBC Newcastle.

Canada beat Spain 31-7 in the opening game of Pool A at the Women's Rugby World Cup. Meanwhile, Australia lead South Africa 21-3 at half-time in Pool C.

England's James Anderson and Ravindra Jadeja of India have been found not guilty of breaching the ICC Code of Conduct.
An ICC statement reads: "The Judicial Commissioner reached his decisions following a six-hour hearing, which took place via videoconference. Witnesses, including some Indian and English players, provided evidence and were cross-examined by the respective legal counsels."
The 34-year-old Brazilian playmaker recently left Atletico Mineiro and his representatives reportedly met with the New York Red Bulls officials.
Ronaldinho has also been linked with a move to the Premier League.

Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo is stepping up his training in the United States as he recovers from a knee injury, reports Marca.
The Spanish daily writes: "He worked on his sprints and stepped up his ball work. The European Super Cup on 12 August is now looming on the horizon and the Real Madrid man is pushing to be fit for Cardiff. However, he rested yesterday afternoon and skipped training in an attempt to not strain himself.
"Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is the man behind CR7's recent recovery time-frames. His plan is to get the Portuguese back in training with the rest of the team. He even thought he might play some part during Saturday's game against Manchester United, but that now looks unlikely."

Ticket sales are said to be better than expected, but a key indicator of public interest will be when hosts France play this evening. There are rumours it will be a sell-out here in Marcoussis, the home of the French Rugby Federation.

'Never too good to be a Gunner'
Arsene Wenger responds to Steven Gerrard's claims that Luis Suarez was too good to move to Arsenal last summer, saying no player is ever too good for the club.
The Gunners tried to sign Suarez, who this summer joined Barcelona from Liverpool, last year but Gerrard said on Thursday he told the Uruguay international not to join them.
"You're never too good for Arsenal and Steven Gerrard knows that," Wenger says. "But I can understand completely that he asked him to stay because he wanted him (Suarez) to play with him and have a chance to win the Premier League. But it didn't happen, and anyway, Suarez left."
Mathieu perplexed by England struggles
Barcelona defender Jeremy Mathieu says he does not understand why England struggle internationally given the quality of their base at St George's Park.
Mathieu and his Barca team-mates have been working this week at Burton-upon-Trent on a pre-season training camp.
"I don't know why, having these lovely facilities, England haven't done well - it is something I cannot answer," he says.

Suarez set for hearing
Luis Suarez will have his appeal against a four-month ban for biting heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on 8 August, according to Press Association Sport.
The Barcelona striker was banned from all football-related activity for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini during Uruguay's 1-0 World Cup win on 24 June.
His appeal will be heard next Friday in Lausanne, Switzerland, with a decision expected the following week.

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is hoping Petr Cech remains at Stamford Bridge so he can learn from the Czech Republic international.
Courtois has returned to Chelsea after three seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid, and will challenge Cech for the number one jersey.
"Petr has had a really nice 10 years here," said the Belgian. "He's one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
"Every goalkeeper can have a type of thing they are usually good at so when you see them train you can learn from him and other keepers, too. I signed with Chelsea three years ago but because of the loan it took until Thursday to have my first training session, so I'm really happy to be here."

The Netherlands may be known for their attacking brand of football, but new boss Guus Hiddink says he will not be afraid to ditch that if necessary.

The start of the domestic football league season is almost upon us. Just one more blank weekend before hundreds of thousands of fans begin the all-too familiar process of descending on their ground of choice next Saturday as the Football League season gets under way.
The Community Shield, this time contested between Manchester City and Arsenal, should also whet the appetite for the Premier League season ahead when it takes place a week on Sunday.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman reiterates Morgan Schneiderlinwill not be leaving the club and has warned the midfielder of his conduct following his midweek outburst on Twitter.
Schneiderlin, 24, has been linked to Tottenham but Saints chairman Ralph Krueger has said he is not for sale. The Frenchman later wrote on Twitter: "6 years of an amazing journey #saintsfc DESTROYED in 1 hour !!!"

An athlete at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow has tested negative for Ebola.
A spokesman for Glasgow 2014 said the competitor was given tests for a number of conditions after he fell ill last week and was admitted to hospital.
Sierra Leone road cyclist Moses Sesay, 32, competed in his event, the men's individual time trial, on Thursday.
The pair worked together at Tottenham and Redknapp said recently he was keen on a reunion with the playmaker.

Worcestershireexpress disappointment that England will not allow all-rounder Moeen Ali to play in their T20 Blast quarter-final.
On Saturday, they face Surrey at The Oval with a finals day place at stake.

The 28-year-old has signed a three-year contract with an additional one-year option.

Manchester City are planning to send young players to develop at their Major League Soccer franchise in the USA.
New York City FC, who signed England midfielder Frank Lampard from Chelsea in July, are owned by City and baseball giants New York Yankees.
"We have some bright players. We might ask them to come to New York before they play at Manchester," City chief executive Ferran Soriano tells ESPN. "This is a team that's going to play beautiful soccer in New York."
Ali's 'Fight of the Century' gloves sold

The boxing gloves worn by Muhammad Ali during his 1971 fight with Joe Frazier have been sold for $388,375 (£237,000).
An anonymous bidder bought the gloves at an auction in Cleveland, US.
The bout, dubbed the "Fight of the Century", saw Frazier beat Ali by a unanimous decision to become the undisputed world heavyweight champion.

No Premier League raid from Atletico
Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo says the La Liga champions are not interested in signing Arsenal's Santi Cazorla, Chelsea striker Fernando Torres or Manchester United's Javier Hernandez.
"Many names have been mentioned, but none of those players, neither Cazorla, Torres nor Chicharito [Hernandez] are on our agenda," Cerezo tells Radio Marca.
"If we sign another player, it won't be any of them."
Southampton boss Ronald Koeman appears determined to keep Morgan Schneiderlin at the club, according to the Daily Mirror's Darren Lewis.
The midfielder has been linked with a move to Tottenham.

Tottenham's Spanish winger Iago Falque signs for Italian Serie A side Genoa.
The 24-year-old Spanish winger joined Spurs on a season-long loan deal from Juventus three years ago before completing a permanent move the following year, but made only one Premier League appearance.

According to the Eastern Daily Press's Norwich City reporter Paddy Davitt, striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel could be set for a loan move to French side St Etienne.
Davitt tweets: "Suggestions across the channel there is a buy option in proposed RvW season-long loan to St Etienne. Six million euros quoted. St Etienne to cover all of RvW wage during the proposed loan deal period."

England pace bowler James Anderson has a hearing on Friday over his alleged clash with India's Ravindra Jadeja during the first Test.
Jadeja will also appeal against his fine for his part in the incident at the same hearing.
The International Cricket Council handed Anderson, 32, a level three misconduct charge over claims he abused and pushed Jadeja at Trent Bridge. Anderson faces a maximum four-Test ban if he is found guilty.

The two worked together when Van Gaal managed Barcelona, and Pique says: "He had a really good relationship with my grandfather who was the vice-president of football at Barcelona and I had the chance to meet him one day in my grandfather's house.
"I was 12 or 13 years old and he arrived at the house and he knew that I was playing for the Barcelona youth team - and he pushed me and I fell down on the floor and he said to me: 'You are not tough enough to be a centre-back'. He is very disciplined but I think he will do brilliantly at Manchester United."

St Johnstone face an uphill struggle to progress in the Europa League after losing 2-1 at home to Spartak Trnava of Slovakia on Thursday.
The visitors broke the deadlock midway through the first half through striker Ivan Schranz's left-footed effort.
A mistake in the Saints defence allowed Schranz to double Trnava's advantage in the second half. However, captain Dave Mackay slotted home from close range in injury time to give the Perth team hope.

New rules which prevent players and coaches betting on any worldwide footballing activity will help in the fight against match-fixing, says Football Association general secretary Alex Horne.
Players from the top eight tiers of the English game are banned from betting on the sport under new rules which came into force on Friday.
"We want to keep our message as simple as possible - and it cannot be more simple that as a player you cannot bet at all on football," says Horne.

Aberdeen suffer first defeat
Aberdeen lost the first leg of their Europa League third qualifying round tie 2-0 to an impressive Real Sociedad side.
It was always going to be tough for Derek McInnes's men and they did well to keep it at 0-0 for 45 minutes.
However, the Spaniards found their touch in the second half - although the Dons could have defended better when David Zurutuza broke the deadlock. Sergio Canales' long distance shot beat Jamie Langfield to double the deficit.

The England Under-21 international, who was born in Cheltenham but moved to Portugal as a child, has made 30 appearances for the Lisbon club.
Dier, 20, was unwilling to sign a new contract with Sporting, with Spurs activating a 5m euro clause. He will become Spurs' third summer signing after Ben Davies and Michel Vorm from Swansea.

Women's Rugby World Cup starts
The Women's Rugby World Cupgets under way on Friday when holders New Zealand take on Kazakhstan in France at 12:00 BST.
The Black Ferns have won the last four tournaments and are favourites to lift the trophy again at the final in Paris.
Wales and Ireland will compete in the 12-nation event, with England, runners up at the last tournament in 2010, hoping to go one better.
Friday's schedule: New Zealand v Kazakhstan (12:00 BST), Canada v Spain (14:00), Australia v South Africa (15:45), USA v Ireland (16:00), England v Samoa (17:00), France v Wales (20:45).
After taking gold in the all-round and team competitions, Whitlock, 21, won the men's floor final and Fragapane, 16, the vault.
Whitlock added a silver from the pommel horse final which was won by Scotland's Daniel Keatings with Louis Smith third.

Top four or bust
According to some of today's newspapers, Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has been told he must achieve a top-four finish, and the Dutchman is certainly leaving nothing to chance.
As well as installing cameras pitchside at Manchester United's training complex, the former Netherlands boss has ordered his players to speak English to each other, while rectangular tables have been replaced by circular ones at meal times to encourage conversation.
"I think it is a lot more detailed at the training ground (now)," United defender Johnny Evans says. "They have spent thousands on it and a few of the lads have seen HD cameras around the pitch. I think a lot of teams use it but we are looking into it in quite a lot of detail."

The Dutchman has installed video cameras all around the club's training complex to watch every single kick, check who is comfortable and who is struggling and even observe what each player's expression is like.
No stone is being left unturned in Van Gaal's bid to guide United to a top-four finish this season, but only time will tell if his methods will ultimately pay dividends.
It is not just on the training pitch Van Gaal is looking oversee improvements, but also in the squad itself. Just like pretty much every other manager in world football, Van Gaal will still be searching for the players he believes will give his side the best chance of success this season.

BBC Wales Sport's Dafydd Pritchard in Paris: "It's not only Glasgow where there is a bustling athlete's village this summer.
"At the French Rugby Federation's headquarters in Marcoussis - some 20 miles south of Paris - the Women's Rugby World Cup gets under way today. It is an impressive place. Like England's hub of football development at St George's Park, Marcoussis is rugby's equivalent in France, producing stars such as Mathieu Bastareaud and Morgan Parra.
"At the heart of the complex is its main stadium with a grandstand to hold a few thousand fans, and surrounding it are outer pitches for non-televised games as well as accommodation for players and state-of-the-art training facilities.
"Being in France, players and assorted media do not have to go far before they are offered wine and cheese, though the athletes tend to opt for protein shakes and the searing heat means even the press are choosing to eschew the wine for water."
Taarabt to get QPR chance
QPR manager Harry Redknapp says Adel Taarabt is part of his plans for the coming season.
The forward spent part of last season on loan at AC Milan but has been included in The R's pre-season tour to Ireland.
"At this moment he is part of our plans for the season, unless someone comes in and pays the money that the club want," says Redknapp, who also confirmed striker Loic Remy will join the squad on Sunday. A proposed move to Liverpool fell through recently, while Newcastle are keen on the striker who spent part of last season on loan at St James' Park.
The right man for Newcastle?

Manager Alan Pardew hopes Newcastle United can complete a deal to sign Shakhtar Donetsk striker Facundo Ferreyra on loan.
The 23-year-old Argentine is one of six Shakhtar players who have opted not to return to Donetsk, a Ukrainian city currently held by pro-Russian rebels. Pardew is keen to add a forward to his squad, with six signings already made.
"It's something that is not done, but we're working to see if that can happen," Pardew tells BBC Newcastle.

Canada beat Spain 31-7 in the opening game of Pool A at the Women's Rugby World Cup. Meanwhile, Australia lead South Africa 21-3 at half-time in Pool C.

England's James Anderson and Ravindra Jadeja of India have been found not guilty of breaching the ICC Code of Conduct.
An ICC statement reads: "The Judicial Commissioner reached his decisions following a six-hour hearing, which took place via videoconference. Witnesses, including some Indian and English players, provided evidence and were cross-examined by the respective legal counsels."
Ronaldinho heading to the States?
Ronaldinho is close to completing a move to Major League Soccer side New York Red Bulls,according to a report from Brazilian outlet UOL.
The 34-year-old Brazilian playmaker recently left Atletico Mineiro and his representatives reportedly met with the New York Red Bulls officials.
Ronaldinho has also been linked with a move to the Premier League.

Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo is stepping up his training in the United States as he recovers from a knee injury, reports Marca.
The Spanish daily writes: "He worked on his sprints and stepped up his ball work. The European Super Cup on 12 August is now looming on the horizon and the Real Madrid man is pushing to be fit for Cardiff. However, he rested yesterday afternoon and skipped training in an attempt to not strain himself.
"Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is the man behind CR7's recent recovery time-frames. His plan is to get the Portuguese back in training with the rest of the team. He even thought he might play some part during Saturday's game against Manchester United, but that now looks unlikely."

Ticket sales are said to be better than expected, but a key indicator of public interest will be when hosts France play this evening. There are rumours it will be a sell-out here in Marcoussis, the home of the French Rugby Federation.

Arsene Wenger responds to Steven Gerrard's claims that Luis Suarez was too good to move to Arsenal last summer, saying no player is ever too good for the club.
The Gunners tried to sign Suarez, who this summer joined Barcelona from Liverpool, last year but Gerrard said on Thursday he told the Uruguay international not to join them.
"You're never too good for Arsenal and Steven Gerrard knows that," Wenger says. "But I can understand completely that he asked him to stay because he wanted him (Suarez) to play with him and have a chance to win the Premier League. But it didn't happen, and anyway, Suarez left."
Mathieu perplexed by England struggles
Barcelona defender Jeremy Mathieu says he does not understand why England struggle internationally given the quality of their base at St George's Park.
Mathieu and his Barca team-mates have been working this week at Burton-upon-Trent on a pre-season training camp.
"I don't know why, having these lovely facilities, England haven't done well - it is something I cannot answer," he says.

Vermaelen to leave?
Arsene Wenger also appears to suggest there is a possibility club captain Thomas Vermaelen could leave the Gunners.
The defender is currently injured, and Wenger says: "It is a possibility that he goes."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is speaking in a news conference at this very moment. He rules out a move for Porto midfielder Juan Quintero, saying: "That is wrong."
He says the club still plan further signings before the close of the transfer window, adding: "I think 15-30 August will be busy again."

Suarez set for hearing
Luis Suarez will have his appeal against a four-month ban for biting heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on 8 August, according to Press Association Sport.
The Barcelona striker was banned from all football-related activity for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini during Uruguay's 1-0 World Cup win on 24 June.
His appeal will be heard next Friday in Lausanne, Switzerland, with a decision expected the following week.

Newcastle have completed a season-long loan deal for Shakhtar Donetsk striker Facundo Ferreyra, reports the Northern Echo.

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is hoping Petr Cech remains at Stamford Bridge so he can learn from the Czech Republic international.
Courtois has returned to Chelsea after three seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid, and will challenge Cech for the number one jersey.
"Petr has had a really nice 10 years here," said the Belgian. "He's one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
"Every goalkeeper can have a type of thing they are usually good at so when you see them train you can learn from him and other keepers, too. I signed with Chelsea three years ago but because of the loan it took until Thursday to have my first training session, so I'm really happy to be here."

Crystal Palace have signed Brede Hangeland on a free transfer, with the ex-Fulham defender signing a one-year contract.
The 33-year-old Norwegian, who was released by the Cottagers, told Palace's official website: "It's a traditional club with a big following. I thought the atmosphere here was fantastic and obviously the fans had a lot to be happy about come the end of the season."

The Netherlands may be known for their attacking brand of football, but new boss Guus Hiddink says he will not be afraid to ditch that if necessary.
The 67-year-old has just started his second spell with the Dutch national team, having previously been in charge from 1995 to 1998, when they also reached the World Cup semi-finals in France.
"I've learnt during my adventures overseas that other football cultures have a reflex of survival," Hiddink says. "This reflex would bring Dutch football to new heights. The 'Holland school' is nice but only if you win."
Netherlands post for Ruud
Ruud van Nistelrooy is named one of the Netherlands assistant coaches.
The 38-year-old former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker will work under new coach Guus Hiddink and alongside Danny Blind, who is set to take over from Hiddink in 2018.
Van Nistelrooy scored 35 goals in a 70-match international career which started in 1998 and finished in 2011.

Leeds United manager Dave Hockaday says increasing his central defensive options is a priority as the new season approaches.
The Championship side have sold Tom Lees to Sheffield Wednesday and backed out of a possible deal for Chesterfield's Liam Cooper because of the asking price.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman reiterates Morgan Schneiderlinwill not be leaving the club and has warned the midfielder of his conduct following his midweek outburst on Twitter.
Schneiderlin, 24, has been linked to Tottenham but Saints chairman Ralph Krueger has said he is not for sale. The Frenchman later wrote on Twitter: "6 years of an amazing journey #saintsfc DESTROYED in 1 hour !!!"
Koeman says: "He is a player of Southampton and will continue to be."

An athlete at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow has tested negative for Ebola.
A spokesman for Glasgow 2014 said the competitor was given tests for a number of conditions after he fell ill last week and was admitted to hospital.
Sierra Leone road cyclist Moses Sesay, 32, competed in his event, the men's individual time trial, on Thursday.
Rafa wants Redknapp reunion?
Hamburg playmaker Rafael van der Vaartsays there has been no contact from Harry Redknapp over a possible move to QPR.
The pair worked together at Tottenham and Redknapp said recently he was keen on a reunion with the playmaker.
Van der Vaart, 31, tells Bild: "Harry Redknapp has not been in touch with me. He has not phoned me. In football you never know, but so far we have not been in touch. Harry Redknapp and I enjoyed a really great relationship back at Tottenham. He is a top-quality manager."

Worcestershireexpress disappointment that England will not allow all-rounder Moeen Ali to play in their T20 Blast quarter-final.
On Saturday, they face Surrey at The Oval with a finals day place at stake.

The 28-year-old has signed a three-year contract with an additional one-year option.

Manchester City are planning to send young players to develop at their Major League Soccer franchise in the USA.
New York City FC, who signed England midfielder Frank Lampard from Chelsea in July, are owned by City and baseball giants New York Yankees.
"We have some bright players. We might ask them to come to New York before they play at Manchester," City chief executive Ferran Soriano tells ESPN. "This is a team that's going to play beautiful soccer in New York."
Ali's 'Fight of the Century' gloves sold
The boxing gloves worn by Muhammad Ali during his 1971 fight with Joe Frazier have been sold for $388,375 (£237,000).
An anonymous bidder bought the gloves at an auction in Cleveland, US.
The bout, dubbed the "Fight of the Century", saw Frazier beat Ali by a unanimous decision to become the undisputed world heavyweight champion.
Grenier happy at Lyon
France midfielder Clement Grenier, who has recently been linked with Newcastle, denies he missed training recently to try to force a move from Lyon.
He posted on his personal website: "I have read a lot of things about myself recently. I have no problem with the club and have never missed a training session intentionally. There is no controversy and my intention is to be back on the pitch and competing as soon as possible."

No Premier League raid from Atletico
Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo says the La Liga champions are not interested in signing Arsenal's Santi Cazorla, Chelsea striker Fernando Torres or Manchester United's Javier Hernandez.
"Many names have been mentioned, but none of those players, neither Cazorla, Torres nor Chicharito [Hernandez] are on our agenda," Cerezo tells Radio Marca.
"If we sign another player, it won't be any of them."

Tottenham's Spanish winger Iago Falque signs for Italian Serie A side Genoa.
The 24-year-old Spanish winger joined Spurs on a season-long loan deal from Juventus three years ago before completing a permanent move the following year, but made only one Premier League appearance.

According to the Eastern Daily Press's Norwich City reporter Paddy Davitt, striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel could be set for a loan move to French side St Etienne.
Davitt tweets: "Suggestions across the channel there is a buy option in proposed RvW season-long loan to St Etienne. Six million euros quoted. St Etienne to cover all of RvW wage during the proposed loan deal period."

England pace bowler James Anderson has a hearing on Friday over his alleged clash with India's Ravindra Jadeja during the first Test.
Jadeja will also appeal against his fine for his part in the incident at the same hearing.
The International Cricket Council handed Anderson, 32, a level three misconduct charge over claims he abused and pushed Jadeja at Trent Bridge. Anderson faces a maximum four-Test ban if he is found guilty.

League One Oldham sign forward Jonathan Forte after a successful trial.
The 28-year-old, released by Southampton in the summer, has signed a one-year contract with the club in a deal until the end of the season.
Van Gaal no pushover - Pique
How did Barcelona defender Gerard Pique become the player he is today? By being pushed over by Louis van Gaal when he was 12, apparently.
The two worked together when Van Gaal managed Barcelona, and Pique says: "He had a really good relationship with my grandfather who was the vice-president of football at Barcelona and I had the chance to meet him one day in my grandfather's house.
"I was 12 or 13 years old and he arrived at the house and he knew that I was playing for the Barcelona youth team - and he pushed me and I fell down on the floor and he said to me: 'You are not tough enough to be a centre-back'. He is very disciplined but I think he will do brilliantly at Manchester United."

St Johnstone face an uphill struggle to progress in the Europa League after losing 2-1 at home to Spartak Trnava of Slovakia on Thursday.
The visitors broke the deadlock midway through the first half through striker Ivan Schranz's left-footed effort.
A mistake in the Saints defence allowed Schranz to double Trnava's advantage in the second half. However, captain Dave Mackay slotted home from close range in injury time to give the Perth team hope.

New rules which prevent players and coaches betting on any worldwide footballing activity will help in the fight against match-fixing, says Football Association general secretary Alex Horne.
Players from the top eight tiers of the English game are banned from betting on the sport under new rules which came into force on Friday.
"We want to keep our message as simple as possible - and it cannot be more simple that as a player you cannot bet at all on football," says Horne.

Aberdeen suffer first defeat
Aberdeen lost the first leg of their Europa League third qualifying round tie 2-0 to an impressive Real Sociedad side.
It was always going to be tough for Derek McInnes's men and they did well to keep it at 0-0 for 45 minutes.
However, the Spaniards found their touch in the second half - although the Dons could have defended better when David Zurutuza broke the deadlock. Sergio Canales' long distance shot beat Jamie Langfield to double the deficit.

Dier set for Spurs switch
Even later on Thursday, Tottenhamagreed to signSporting Lisbon defender Eric Dier for £4m, subject to a medical.
The England Under-21 international, who was born in Cheltenham but moved to Portugal as a child, has made 30 appearances for the Lisbon club.
Dier, 20, was unwilling to sign a new contract with Sporting, with Spurs activating a 5m euro clause. He will become Spurs' third summer signing after Ben Davies and Michel Vorm from Swansea.

In case you missed this on Thursday evening, West Ham have signedArsenal defender Carl Jenkinson on a season-long loan.
The 22-year-old had been linked with several Premier League clubs, but opted for the Hammers.
"I'm clearly seen as a big part of things here and hopefully I can prove my worth because it is an important year for me," Jenkinson says.

Encouraging all his players to speak English and making players chat to each other at meal times, Louis van Gaal is certainly looking to make his mark behind the scenes at Manchester United.
He is, of course, not the first manager to try different ways of improving his squad's performances. Paolo Di Canio infamously banned his players from eating tomato sauce when he was in charge of Sunderland, while Blackpool boss Jose Riga is a big fan of 'brain training', which encourages players to train their minds as well as their bodies.

Tigers held on European debut
Hull Citymade history on Thursday as Steve Bruce's side played their first ever game in Europe, drawing with AS Trencin in Slovakiin in the first leg of the Europa League third qualifying round.
But the Tigers will be disappointed not to have won, with Tom Huddlestone missing a penalty and then hitting the crossbar with the rebound.
The second leg will be played at Hull's KC Stadium on Thursday, 7 August.

Women's Rugby World Cup starts
The Women's Rugby World Cupgets under way on Friday when holders New Zealand take on Kazakhstan in France at 12:00 BST.
The Black Ferns have won the last four tournaments and are favourites to lift the trophy again at the final in Paris.
Wales and Ireland will compete in the 12-nation event, with England, runners up at the last tournament in 2010, hoping to go one better.
Friday's schedule: New Zealand v Kazakhstan (12:00 BST), Canada v Spain (14:00), Australia v South Africa (15:45), USA v Ireland (16:00), England v Samoa (17:00), France v Wales (20:45).
Commonwealth Games
Away from football, England gymnasts Max Whitlock and Claudia Fragapane both won their third Commonwealth Games gold medals with individual final success on Thursday.
After taking gold in the all-round and team competitions, Whitlock, 21, won the men's floor final and Fragapane, 16, the vault.
Whitlock added a silver from the pommel horse final which was won by Scotland's Daniel Keatings with Louis Smith third.

Top four or bust
According to some of today's newspapers, Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has been told he must achieve a top-four finish, and the Dutchman is certainly leaving nothing to chance.
As well as installing cameras pitchside at Manchester United's training complex, the former Netherlands boss has ordered his players to speak English to each other, while rectangular tables have been replaced by circular ones at meal times to encourage conversation.
"I think it is a lot more detailed at the training ground (now)," United defender Johnny Evans says. "They have spent thousands on it and a few of the lads have seen HD cameras around the pitch. I think a lot of teams use it but we are looking into it in quite a lot of detail."

The Dutchman has installed video cameras all around the club's training complex to watch every single kick, check who is comfortable and who is struggling and even observe what each player's expression is like.
No stone is being left unturned in Van Gaal's bid to guide United to a top-four finish this season, but only time will tell if his methods will ultimately pay dividends.
It is not just on the training pitch Van Gaal is looking oversee improvements, but also in the squad itself. Just like pretty much every other manager in world football, Van Gaal will still be searching for the players he believes will give his side the best chance of success this season.
