    American Matt Kuchar pulls out of the US PGA because of back issues.

    World number six Kuchar won the Heritage tournament in April and was fourth two weeks ago at the Canadian Open.

    American alternate John Huh replaces Kuchar in the field of 156, teeing off on the back nine alongside a 2013 US Open champion Justin Rose and South African Louis Oosthuizen, the 2010 British Open champion.

    Former referee Howard Webb will make himself available to explain key decisions to fans during the season as part of his role as technical director of the official referees' association.

    Webb retired from refereeing on Wednesday to end a 25-year career. The 43-year-old is keen to "enlighten people" about reasons behind decisions.

    "I've just had a season where I was in the middle of high-profile games," Webb tells BBC Sport. "So I am well-placed to speak about the job."

    Arsene Wenger confirms Arsenal have received bids for club captain Thomas Vermaelen and hints that Manchester United could be one of those bidders.

    He says: "Yes [there have been bids]. I can't tell you who but you will know very soon. I think they [Man Utd] could be in the group.

    "It could happen that he leaves us because he needs to play now. He is in a position where we cannot stand in his way if he finds an interesting opportunity."

    Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is speaking in a news conference at the moment. He once again says defender Thomas Vermaelen, linked with Manchester United, could leave.

    "Vermaelen could leave us because he needs to play now. We're in a position where it's difficult to stand in his way," he says.

    "We have three and a half weeks until the transfer market closes - we could still strengthen, but we have a big squad."

    The 31-year-old, who pulled out of the Commonwealth Games following illness, will take on Kenya's Stephen Kiprotich, the reigning world and Olympic marathon champion, on Tyneside.

    It will be Farah's second attempt to win the Great North Run after he was beaten to victory last year by Kenenisa Bekele in a thrilling race.
