    The ex-Kilmarnock forward, 22, linked up with the Latics in pre-season, but manager Lee Johnson says he is unable to offer Gros, who only made two appearances, regular first-team football.

    London Welsh fly-half Olly Barkley says he is already looking forward to the second weekend of the new Premiership season when they play his former side Bath at the Rec.

    Barkley, 32, made 162 Premiership appearances for Bath before leaving to join French side Racing Metro 92. He is set to face his old club on 13 September and says it will be strange.

    Iain Moody is set to resign as Crystal Palace sporting director today.

    It is understood that the Palace hierarchy were unaware of Cardiff's allegations about Moody and their complaint to the Football Association until Wednesday.

    Palace were also thought to be unaware of the allegations about Malky Mackay when the Scot interviewed for the vacant manager's position at Palace on Sunday.

    "Stephen Milne, still looking fresh after his personal best-busting 1500m freestyle final last night, has made another final tomorrow - this time in the 800m freestyle. The Scot came second in his heat to go through sixth fastest in an event he doesn't usually swim.

    "Molly Renshaw has qualified for the semi-finals of the 200m breaststroke later today - the discipline in which she won Commonwealth bronze in Glasgow. Jemma Lowe has also got herself another swim to make the final of the 100m butterfly.

    "And Ben Proud got the 16th and last qualifying place for the 100m freestyle semis."

    Well, that is the situation that teams in the Bournemouth Sunday League Division Four may face after Abbey bring in former England midfielder Paul Gascoigne.

    The 47-year-old, who played 57 times for his country, could make his debut for his new team against either Rentech Repairs or ARC Cleaning when the season begins in September.

    Abbey boss Chris Foster, a taxi driver, told the Southern Daily Echo: "I have offered to pick him up whenever he is willing to come."
