"Georgia Davies qualified second fastest for the 50m backstroke semi-finals later - the event in which she won gold in Glasgow.

"She's joined by Fran Halsall, but Lizzie Simmonds misses out because of the two-swimmers-per-nation rule. Adam Barrett is into the semis of the 100m butterfly, as is Shauna Lee in the 200m freestyle.

"After winning 800m free gold last night, Jazz Carlin was due to swim again this morning in the 200m freestyle heats, but opted out. Likewise Ross Murdoch, who took another silver last night, didn't swim the 50m breaststroke."

  3. LMA apologise for Mackay statement wordingpublished at 10:38 British Summer Time 22 August 2014

The League Managers' Association issue a statement apologising for the wording of yesterday's release over Malky Mackay's text allegations.

The LMA described the former Cardiff City manager's alleged text messages as "friendly text message banter", after Mackay apologised for being "disrespectful of other cultures".

The latest statement reads: "The LMA apologises for some of its wording, in its release yesterday, which was inappropriate and has been perceived to trivialise matters of a racist, sexist or homophobic nature. That was certainly not our intention.

"It is beyond argument that any comments that are discriminatory, even used in private, are totally unacceptable. The LMA remains absolutely aware of our responsibility to the game and to promote and uphold the highest standards of behaviour."

QPR boss Harry Redknapp is in talkative mood today. Here he is talking about returning to his former club Tottenham on Sunday.

"I shouldn't get a bad reception, I finished fourth two seasons and fifth. Champions League football was amazing. It is another game. I don't get too excited about anything."

  7. Redknapp on Mackaypublished at 10:20 British Summer Time 22 August 2014

More from QPR manager Harry Redknapp on Malky Mackay. "I am not condoning what he has done but he is not a bad person," said Redknapp.

"Show me someone who has not made a mistake. He has not murdered someone, is not a rapist or a paedophile, he has made a mistake but that should not finish his football career.

"People get second chances in life who have committed bad crimes. Yes, he has made a mistake but we are not going to hang him for it. His life has to go on and hopefully he will learn from what he has done."

  8. Tottenham v QPR (Sunday, 13:30 BST)published at 10:17 British Summer Time 22 August 2014

QPR manager Harry Redknapp is talking at a news conference about ex-Cardiff boss Malky Mackay, who has apologised for text messages he sent that were "disrespectful of other cultures".

"Malky Mackay has made a big mistake, him and the other lad (ex-Bluebirds colleague Iain Moody). What they have done is not right but Malky is a fantastic man, a great fella, a family man, a football man. People make mistakes in life, suddenly everyone is an angel. It should not finish his life.

"He is a young man who is a top manager. I feel really sorry for what he has done but I am sure no one is suffering more than him and his family this morning."

He said: "Eduardo Vargas had a great World Cup and when the opportunity came to loan him it was too good to miss. He is a busy, strong player and is going to be good. He has to get his work permit so he won't be available this week.

"Leroy Fer will come straight into the squad. He's a really good signing for us. A top, top midfielder. We came back pre-season and were short of numbers and we have brought quality players in.

"I'm confident (striker) Loic Remy will be here still after the window closes. I've spoken to him and his attitude has been first class. He's enjoying it here."
