Barcelona will be disappointed that there are no English sides left in the Champions League. They love to beat our boys in the final. Barca's last three final appearances were against English opposition (Manchester United in 2011 and 2009 and Arsenal in 2006) and they won them all.

They were particularly ruthless in 2011, when Pedro, Lionel Messi and David Villa scored the goals in a 3-1 win at Wembley.

Bayern Munich last appeared in the Champions League final in 2013 - an all-German affair which saw them claim a 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund at Wembley. Mario Mandzukic opened the scoring for Bayern before an Ilkay Gundogan penalty levelled the game. Arjen Robben won the game for Munich in the 89th minute.

It ended a miserable run for Bayern, who had lost in the final in two of the three previous years, to Jose Mourinho's Inter Milan in 2010 and then Chelsea on penalties in 2012.

We want to know which player will excel for his side in the Champions League semi-finals...

Haris Hameed: Pogba's fitness will decide whether Juventus have what it takes or if it was just a fluke and an easy draw.

KirrubanKrishnarajah: Tevez has been 2nd fiddle for so long, at Juv he seems to have found his place. The Old Lady have been the dark horses.

Saqib Ali: Messi is obvious but I think suarez could be a big factor in barca winning it. He's bang on form.

Returning to the the nostalgia path, and how about the 1998 final between Juventus and Real Madrid, settled by a single goal from Predrag Mijatovic? That was Real's seventh European title and also the first they had won in 32 years.

The Real side that day also contained the likes of Roberto Carlos, Clarence Seedorf (who loves a Champions League win) and Raul. Juve had Edgar Davids, Zinedine Zidane and Filippo Inzaghi amongst their ranks.

The four semi-finalists in this season's Champions League have won the competition 21 times between them. Real Madrid lead that tally with a record 10, the last of which came last season. Bayern have five to their name (a German record), Barcelona have four and Juventus have won it twice.

Outsiders Juve have gone the longest without lifting the trophy - 19 years since their win over Ajax in 1996. They had a pretty damn fine team back then. Check this out: Peruzzi, Ferrara, Pessotto, Torricelli, Vierchowod, Sousa, Deschamps, Conte, Vialli, Del Piero, Ravanelli. That is some front three.

Some breaking rugby union news now and Gloucester are facing a Rugby Football Union hearing for fielding an unregistered player. Mariano Galarza, who did not hold effective registration for Gloucester Rugby, played for them against Sale Sharks on 29 March.

London Welsh were deducted five points and fined £15,000 for fielding ineligible player Tyson Keats in 2013.

So, what potential match-ups could we have in the Champions League draw? Any way you split it, it looks interesting. We could have an El Clasico (although I'm sure their are plenty of folk who would like to see that as the final), a showdown between Germany's finest and one of the Spanish giants, a re-run of the 1998 final. Or how about Barca's Luis Suarez coming face to face (or should that be jaw to shoulder?) again with Juve's Giorgio Chiellini? We'll find out very soon.

How much would you pay for tickets to a sporting event? £94,000? If the answer to that question is yes then you may want to get yourself online sharpish because that is currently the going rate for entry to the MGM Grand for Floyd Mayweather v Manny Pacquiao, and they only going to get more expensive.

Only 1,000 tickets were made available to the public for the fight on 2 May in Las Vegas and sold out in minutes before some remerged on websites at around 62 times the original price. That's a tidy profit.

Rory Lemmon: Want to see an El Classico semi-final like in 2011, an ugly game made perfect by Messi magic. Better over two legs

Dom May: I think they Neymar could be the key to barca winning it, his performance against PSG was amazing.

Jon Turner: Going with @XabiAlonso and Bayern Munich, destroyed Porto the other day and are good enough to win the UCL

It seems to be an English compulsion to make the best player captain. And then complain about them being rubbish when the pressure of skippering handicaps their talent. Well, appointing "cheeky little Yorkshireman" Joe Root England captain too soon could make him "half the player", according to former international spinner Graeme Swann...

"If they do it too soon, it will take that little edge away. If he tries to be too serious, he will be half the player."

  16. The Root of the matterpublished at 09:48 British Summer Time 24 April 2015

One man who truly deserves a salute is Joe Root, who scored an unbeaten 118 on day three in Grenada. The 24-year-old is now averaging 103.7 since his recall to the side and has passed 50 in each of his last six innings - equalling the England record. Test Match Special commentator Jonathan Agnew was glowing in his praise in his latest column...

"Root was dynamic in his unbeaten innings of 118. He's a very jaunty young man at the best of times, and from the moment he came in he was busy - which was exactly what England needed at a point in their innings when they were in danger of getting bogged down."

England are in control in a game of cricket. It's not often these days that you get to write such a thing. But Joe Root's superb century on day three in Grenada means the tourists lead the West Indies by 74 runs with two days to go.

However, it is a celebration - Marlon Samuels salute to send off Ben Stokes - which has stolen some of the limelight and led the Windies bowling coach Curtly Ambrose to say that his players should keep having fun at England's expense.

"There's nothing wrong with a little bantering," said Ambrose. "This is international cricket."

  19. Lukaku could be "one of the best"published at 09:38 British Summer Time 24 April 2015

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has been speaking to the media ahead of Sunday's visit of Manchester United and it appears he has big plans for striker Romelu Lukaku.

He said: "Rom has a very critical view of himself, but I think that'll help him become one of the best strikers in world football.

"The chemistry between Lukaku and Kone has been pleasing and it's good to know we can call on that when needed.

"There have been tough lessons this season - but we have taken a lot from them and we have started to show that."

James Marshall: it's a great tribute to Luis Suarez that we are talking about his football ability and not his past misdemeanours. The Champions League is his stage and will be the star of a Barcelona side which lifts the trophy.
