    Belgian defender Gregory Mertens remains critical in hospital after he collapsed with a heart-related illness on Monday.

    The 24-year-old Lokeren player was given CPR in the first half of the reserve-team game with Genk, and remains in an induced coma on a life support machine.

    Lokeren have decided to let their Pro League game with Westerlo go ahead on Friday as scheduled.

    The British number one women's player is set to embark on a lengthy qualification process, and will clock up almost 50,000 miles over the next 12 months in a bid to reach the Olympic Games next summer.

    The 21-year-old Scot heads to a training camp in Singapore before ranking events in Australia, Indonesia, USA, Spain, Japan, Korea, Denmark, France and Germany.

    St Helens have signed full-back Shannon McDonnell until the end of next season.

    The 27-year-old Australian played three games for the Super League champions in 2014 before he fractured his jaw and moved to Sydney-based Wests Tigers.

    "It's clear with Jonny Lomax out for the season and Paul Wellens sidelined we need cover at full-back, as well as in the backs," Saints chief executive Mike Rush told the club website.
