  12. The soundtrack to sporting separationspublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 13 May 2015

It was once love in the middle, a relationship that brought runs, the Ashes and a place on top of the world.

But first the texts, then the book, and - despite that 355 and an awful lot of hoohah - Andrew Strauss and Kevin Pietersen are finished. Well, probably.

Check out this video - complete with iconic 'Our Tune' presenter Simon Bates - which takes us through the rocky relationship between the two former team-mates.

But, more importantly, we want your nominations for most memorable sporting separations - and a song to accompany it.

Maybe David Beckham and Sir Alex Ferguson, played out to Cat Stevens The First Cut Is The Deepest (remember that flying boot?)

Jenni in Newtownards: What I don't understand is that Strauss and the ECB label Kevin Pietersen as being toxic and having no place in the England playing setup due to the negative impact he has on the squad. Yet, they offered him an advisory role with the T20 and One Day international squads? That just doesn't make any sense whatsoever. The whole situation juat smacks of Andrew Strauss' personal dislike of KP; nothing more, nothing less.

Andrew, Richhill: Kevin Pietersen has shot himself in the foot in this latest saga. This whole circus revolves around the issue of trust and the lack of it between KP and the ECB management structure. But what does Pietersen go and do, he tells the world that he, Strauss and the ECB are going to have a 'private' meeting on the eve of Strauss' first press conference to talk about him England future. Way to show that you can be trusted KP!

Mickey G, London: What's interesting and possibly enlightening is what KP does now. Knuckle down at Surrey and play it like he said or stomp off in a huff to the IPL?

Guy: So - Shane Warne tweets in support of KP shock! Frankly I don't care what friends of KP say. I think the absolute culprit in all this is Colin Graves for telling KP what he did. He's a lame duck chairman and hasn't even started the job yet.

Nick in Wycombe: Everyone missing the point. Pietersen's behaviour created a situation in which he became unselectable, his ongoing current unapologetic behaviour, based on self righteousness and clouding the original issue merely reinforces this point, he, not anyone else, has dug his own grave, primarily through his own vanity and ego, everything else is a red herring.

Seamus O'Fergy, Belfast: Would so love Gillespie to say he'll only take the job on the condition he picks the team! (Warne has already said Gillespie would want KP!!).
