Twenty-seven former winners competed in the traditional Champion Golfers' Challenge on the eve of the 144th Open Championship at St Andrews.

The sun finally shone as American legend Arnold Palmer and Australia's Peter Thomson both teed up in the celebratory four-hole contest at the age of 85.

The illustrious group had 44 Open and 83 major victories between them.

For the record, and not that it mattered, the fans who packed the grandstands saw the team contest finish in a four-way tie for first.

Moore released from hospital

Top jockey Ryan Moore is out of hospital after injuring his neck in a starting-stalls accident at Newmarket last week, but it remains unclear for how long he will be absent from the saddle.

Moore's mother Jayne said she hoped her son, who'd been enjoying a record-breaking year including nine winners at Royal Ascot, would be back "soon".

Aston Villa appoint sporting director

Aston Villa have appointed Hendrik Almstadt as the club's first ever sporting director.

The 40-year old German joins from Arsenal where he spent the last four years.

According to Villa, his role with the Gunners included technical scouting, data analytics, financial budgeting and contract management, the academy and athletic development.

Rotherham sign Derby duo

Rotherham United have signed defender Farrend Rawson and goalkeeper Kelle Roos on loan from Derby County.

Roos, 23, has joined on a season-long loan, but will be ineligible to play against Derby, having also agreed a new deal until 2018 with the Rams.

Rawson, 21, who spent a month on loan with the Millers last season, has signed on a six-month deal.

New Zealand-born back-row John Hardie has been called into the Scotland squad ahead of the World Cup.

The 26-year-old, who qualifies through his grandmother, has recovered from the rib injury that forced him to miss Highlanders' Super Rugby triumph.

"Representing Scotland has been on my radar for a long time," said Hardie, who won the Under-19 World Championships with New Zealand in 2007.

Celtic v Stjarnan (19:45 BST)

Kris Commons will be Celtic's only major injury absentee when they start their Champions League qualification campaign against Icelandic side Stjarnan.

The midfielder is back in training after breaking a toe in a domestic accident but will not make the first leg at Celtic Park on Wednesday.

While Celtic have been limited to three pre-season friendlies, the Icelandic side have played 11 games in the defence of their league title.

Chisholm agrees deal with Hull KR

Hull Kingston Rovers have signed half-back Dane Chisholm from Canterbury Bulldogs for the rest of the season.

Chisholm, 25, scored three tries in four international appearances for France and also played for Melbourne Storm and Manly Sea Eagles.

He will provide cover for captain Terry Campese, who has been ruled out of the rest of the season because of injury.

"He's got blistering pace and he's a great finisher too," head coach Chris Chester told the club website.

Murray prepares for Davis Cup

Andy Murray has been practising at Queen's Club with the rest of the British team ahead of their Davis Cup quarter-final against France.

Murray is trying to put last Friday's Wimbledon semi-final defeat by Roger Federer behind him.

"I've thought about it a little bit," he told BBC Radio 5 live. "I haven't watched the match. I'm obviously still disappointed, but I can look forward over the next couple of days."

The West Brom squad are currently in Florida and apparently spent Monday visiting Universal Studios.

Don't think that Tony Pulis' players are shirking, though - they face Orlando City in the early hours of Thursday morning (BST), with former Brazil playmaker Kaka expected to play 30 minutes for the hosts. West Brom face a further games on Friday and Sunday before flying home.

Will there be any new faces by then? Rumours continue surrounding moves for QPR winger Matt Phillips, Sheffield Wednesday wideman Michail Antonio and Arsenal attacker Serge Gnabry but there remains nothing concrete to report.

Renicks calls time on career

Commonwealth Games gold medallist Louise Renicks has retired from judo with immediate effect.

The 32-year-old Scot, who won the women's 52kg event at Glasgow 2014, says recurring injuries were hampering her bid to qualify for the Rio Olympics.

And she hopes her decision will help younger sister Kimberley - also a Commonwealth gold medallist - receive funding to compete in Rio.

Kiwi called up by Scotland

Scotland have called New Zealand-born flanker John Hardie into their extended World Cup squad.

The Otago Highlanders player was quoted earlier this year as saying he wanted to fulfil his ambition of playing for the All Blacks, but the 26-year-old has now vowed to fight for a place in Vern Cotter's final squad for the tournament.

Hardie is a regular in Super 15 and qualifies for Scotland through a grandmother from Fife.

Roelof returns to Taunton

Former South Africa all-rounder Roelof van der Merwe will rejoin Somerset on a two-year deal next season.

The 30-year-old played 13 one-day internationals and 13 Twenty20s for the Proteas before joining up with Holland earlier this year.

He previously played for Somerset in 2011, helping them to the final of the Twenty20 cup.

Watford have now made seven summer signings - all from overseas - and it would be no surprise if that figure rose to double figures in the near future as the Hornets continue to display their Premier League ambitions.

Udinese and Cameroon right-back Allan Nyom was the latest addition yesterday and today Dutch pair Lex Immers of Feynoord and attacker Steven Berghuis from AZ Alkmaar are the latest overseas players being linked with Watford.

Blades must move forward, says Adkins

Sheffield United manager Nigel Adkins has emphasised the need to move forward following Jose Baxter's drugs hearing.

Baxter appeared before the Football Association on Tuesday after he failed an out-of-competition drugs test.

Baxter, who denied any wrongdoing, was given a five-month ban with the last three months suspended for two years.

Adkins told BBC Radio Sheffield: "For us, it's a situation that should be put to bed and we can move forward in a positive manner."

More honours for Pavey

Britain's 10,000m European champion Jo Pavey can add a fancy cap to her medal haul. Oh, and a picture with children's TV favourite Floella Benjamin. 

Gloucestershire batsmen struggle at Cheltenham

Gareth Roderick's half-century was the only highlight for Gloucestershire in an afternoon session in which they lost five wickets against a disciplined Leicestershire attack.

Wicketkeeper Roderick struck just four boundaries in his 149-ball knock as the pitch at Cheltenham continued to cause problems for the batsmen.

Clint McKay and Charlie Shreck both picked up three wickets.

James Fuller is currently unbeaten on 21 and will hope to bring up at least one batting bonus point for the hosts after tea.

Curran continues dream debut

Sam Curran is enjoying a Championship debut to remember for Surrey.

The 17-year-old has taken the first three Kent second-innings wickets to go with his five in the first innings at The Oval.

Earlier Surrey were all out for 311 as Kumar Sangakkara struck 110 - his 53rd first-class century.

Curran also showed some promise with the bat hitting a breezy 18 not out to give the hosts a third batting bonus point.

Not sure if this has happened at this time of year before but a pre-season friendly on Tuesday night between Portland United and Weymouth had to be abandoned because of thick fog - in July!

Ryder sends Glamorgan to first Championship defeat

New Zealand all-rounder Jesse Ryder finished with match figures of 10-100 as Essex sent Glamorgan to their first County Championship defeat of the season with a 248-run win.

Set a huge 462 to win, the visitors began the day at Chelmsford on 110-1 but lost seven wickets before lunch including Aneurin Donald for 67.

Ryder (4-53) and David Masters (3-37) cleaned up the tail, with Graham Wagg last out for 28, as Glamorgan made 213.

Ryder took 6-47 in the first innings.

Majka wins stage 11 of Tour

Tinkoff-Saxo rider Rafal Majka has won stage 11 of the Tour de France after a superb solo display, but Britain's Chris Froome still retains the yellow jersey.

Wood's wait for Open place

Remember Chris Wood's tweet a short while ago (15:49)?

Well, he could end up being the most frustrated golfer at St Andrews when the 144th Open Championship begins on Thursday.

The Bristol professional, who has twice enjoyed top five finishes in his five Open appearances, is now listed as the first reserve.

Having flown up on Wednesday morning, Wood is now on stand-by until the last group has teed off on Thursday afternoon at 16:13 BST.

"It is the most frustrating experience I've ever had to endure as a golfer," said Wood. "Not one I want to repeat.

"You can't really prepare mentally for something like this. It's just a matter of going through my routine as best I can and waiting to see what happens."

Scott Quigg wants to prove a point to his domestic rival Carl Frampton when he defends his WBA super-bantamweight title against Spaniard Kiko Martinez in Manchester on Saturday.

Quigg, who has racked up an unbeaten 32-fight record, knows comparisons with the Belfast IBF champion are inevitable since Frampton beat Martinez in Belfast in 2013 and again last year.

"It brings more pressure because there are going to be comparisons between how I beat him and how Frampton beat him, but I couldn't be in a better place physically and mentally." said the 26-year-old Bury fighter.

French Davis Cup captain Arnaud Clement does not expect Queen's Club to retain its genteel atmosphere once the quarter-final against Britain gets under way on Friday.

"It's going to be a Davis Cup crowd, so it's going to be loud of course, like it is for Andy when he's playing at Wimbledon," said Clement.

"We watched a lot of GB matches, especially the first round in Scotland, and it was unbelievable. Of course it's going to be like this here. A big support for Britain."

Sterling on Twitter abuse

Prior to jumping on the plane to Australia - to link up with his new City team-mate's on their pre-season tour - Raheem Sterling has been talking a little more about his big-money move.

Asked how he'd coped with all the media coverage over the last week - and some of the not particularly nice things written on Twitter - the 20-year-old said: "I've not really paid attention to it, you've got to take it in your stride.

"I've had friends and family asking if I've seen what someone's said and I've had to tell them I've completely switched off from the situation. My focus was completing the move to Man City."

And here's the most important bit... "Mum's really happy for me," Sterling added. "She said I look good in blue."

More than a few around Villa Park are expecting Christian Benteke to depart this summer. But are things that clear cut?

The Belgian striker is good enough to play for any team in the Premier League but at Aston Villa he's the king pin and will play every week. With the European Championship next summer, would he want to put his place in the national squad at risk by leaving?

Money is all well and good but is it everything? The prospect of playing for a club that's aiming for Champions League football - or even already has it - would also be a pull but right now I wouldn't be shocked if he stayed.

Downing is expected to have a medical on Thursday and sign a five-year deal to return to his former club.

Dallaglio impressed by Burgess's 'aura'

England World Cup winner Lawrence Dallaglio says he believes rugby league convert Sam Burgess could force his way into Stuart Lancaster's squad and has also been impressed by his aura.

Bath's Burgess, 26, switched to rugby union last season and is part of England's World Cup training squad.

"He might force his way into contention which again is quite exciting," Dallaglio told BBC Points West.

"I've been following his progress, he has presence, an aura about him."

Crolla's Old Trafford aim

Anthony Crolla fights for the WBA world lightweight title against Colombian Darleys Perez at Manchester Arena on Saturday - his first outing since suffering a fractured skull and broken ankle when confronting burglars before Christmas.

"It was a long rehab but it was something very important to me that had to be done," Crolla has told the BBC.

"It got me in shape to start training for this fight and after that training camp, I'm now in the best shape of my life without a doubt."

And the Manchester United fan has a special aim. "I can't wait for the new season," he said, "and it would be great to go to the first game against Tottenham with a world title belt."

Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News says Jonny Evans' inclusion in Manchester United's tour squad will have no bearing on a mooted move to Everton...

Leeds sixth signing

Goalkeeper Ross Turnbull has signed for Leeds from Barnsley on a two-year deal.

Room with a view

Aberdeen goalkeeper Jamie Langfield is enjoying his club's Europa League adventure. The Scottish Premiership side face Rijeka of Croatia in the second qualifying round on Thursday.

My favourite FA Cup final of all time is the 1986 Liverpool 3-1 Everton game.

I was a massive Ian Rush fan - obvious really - given his goalscoring for Wales as well as the mighty Liverpool.

John Motson's commentary of the third and final goal was, and still is, just epic.

"Molby again - oh I say, his vision there was lovely. Whelan - and Rush is on the far side - is this three? It is! Ian Rush again. And surely now, the double is about to won. Six minutes from the end - Mimms deflated - Liverpool delighted."

That goal and the commentary was recreated and used many a time on a Cardiff park. Motty - legend.

Murphy signs Ipswich deal

Last season's Championship top scorer Daryl Murphy has signed a new two-year contract with Ipswich Town.

The 27-goal striker had been linked with a moved to the Premier League but will now stay at Portman Road until 2017.

Bears hold nerve to win at Durham

Warwickshire's lower order held their nerve with the bat to seal a two-wicket win over Durham at Chester-le-Street.

Sam Hain and Laurie Evans (70) fell early to leave the visitors 158-5 - still needing another 107 for victory.

Tim Ambrose (25) and Rikki Clarke (28) rebuilt the innings, but when Clarke was trapped lbw by Graham Onions (3-79), the Bears had slumped to 227-8.

However, Jeetan Patel struck an unbeaten 24 and Tom Milnes made 14 not out to see them home on 265-8.

Clasie poised for medical

BBC Sport understands that Dutch midfielder Jordy Clasie will have a medical at Southampton on Thursday before completing his £8m transfer from Feyenoord.

Terms have been agreed with both the club and the player and an announcement is imminent.

GB squad named for European Championships

Great Britain's squad for the European Eventing Championships in Scotland has been announced.

Olympic silver medallist William Fox-Pitt is included alongside former Badminton champion Pippa Funnell.

Also in the 12-strong squad is Laura Collett, who rode the late Kauto Star.

The event is the last major championship before the Olympic Game in Rio, for which Britain have already qualified.

It's half-time in the Barclays Asia Trophy between a Singapore Select XI and Arsenal and the Premier League side lead thanks to Chuba Akpom's goal.

In 1989, Laurie Cunningham was killed in a car crash near Madrid aged 33. The second black footballer to play for England after Viv Anderson, he made his name with Leyton Orient and West Brom before moving to Real Madrid.

Essex beat Glamorgan by 248 runs

"Essex duly wrapped up victory 22 balls into the afternoon session, and fittingly Jesse Ryder took the final wicket, giving him 10 in the match.

Nigeria have appointed former Super Eagles midfielder and captain Sunday Oliseh as their new coach.

The 40-year-old fills the vacancy which was created when Stephen Keshi was sacked at the start of July.

"We have the talent to change our fortunes, to regain the respect we once had and match that with results," Oliseh told BBC Sport.

"This is the biggest job in African football. With everyone's support we can get the Super Eagles flying again."

Cambiasso to stay Foxy?

Daily Star: Leicester believe new manager Claudio Ranieri will convince out-of-contract midfielder Esteban Cambiasso, 34, to agree a new deal with the club. The pair worked together when Ranieri was in charge of Inter Milan in 2011-12.

Cambiasso's brother and one of his agents tweeted subsequently: "Stop rumours, Cambiasso is still a free agent, waiting to hear and make a decision."

What sticks in the memory for me is my old colleague and mentor Murray Walker, commentating on Senna vs Prost at the F1 Japanese GP in 1989.

There was a world title at stake and, as Ayrton Senna went to pass on the inside under braking for the chicane, Alain Prost turned in on him and they collided. It's one of the most famous moments in F1 history.

Murray said: "This is fantastic!"

It might not be everyone's first choice of word in that situation but "fantastic" in its original sense means "unbelievable", "absurd", "like something from a fantasy" - all of which applied.

But more than that, it shows that Murray was in the moment, which is where all the great sports commentators need to be.

Fifa set for extraordinary meeting

Monday will see the first extraordinary meeting of Fifa since May's corruption scandal whipped through its senior ranks.

There will be plenty on the agenda, including a possible announcement on some, or all, of its plans to reform the damaged organisation.

Portsmouth have agreed a deal to bring winger Ben Tollitt to the club from non-league Skelmersdale United.

"I was watching Roger Federer against Novak Djokovic on Sunday at Wimbledon. I was certain Roger was going to win, but by the second set I wasn't certain.

He's spoken about the addition of Peter Nevill to the squad, with Brad Haddin absent for personal reasons.

"Peter Nevill's been an important part of the group for a while. He's played against or with everyone in the squad. Obviously losing Brad is hard as he's a senior player but that's the way it goes.

"Brad is doing as well a he can. It's important to to respect the Haddin family's privacy. I'm confident we'll see him in the rest of the series but he needs time."

Toffees squeeze through

Well, would you Adam and Eve it. 0-0 at half-time, the Everton-Stoke game in the Asia Trophy turned into a nine-goal thriller.

Only one player failed to convert his spot kick, Tim Howard diving to his right to thwart Stoke's Marco Van Ginkel, the man who joined the Potters on a season-long loan from Chelsea five days ago.

It meant a 5-4 win on spot kicks for the Toffees and they are through to the final, against Arsenal or a Singapore XI on Saturday.

Heading back to Germany

The German Grand Prix will return to the Formula One calendar next season, according to Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff.

This year's race, which was pencilled in for July 19, was pulled amid financial difficulties in March. It marked the first time in 55 years that a Formula One race had not been staged in Germany.

But Wolff, quoted in The Independent, said: "We will be in Germany next year - the race is 100 per cent going to happen."

Is Kante the new Makelele?

The director of football model seems to be evident in Leicester's pursuit of Caen's N'Golo Kante.

The club were reportedly chasing the combative midfielder's signature before Nigel Pearson's dismissal and, if the 24-year-old's quotes are accurate, The Foxes have certainly not lost the scent with the appointment of Claudio Ranieri this week.

Some have dubbed Kante the new Claude Makelele, which is a lot of pressure to put on his slight shoulders. But with Riyad Mahrez and Anthony Knockaert making a successful transition from French football into Les Bleus of Leicester, this move make sense.

'I hope this matter gets sorted'

We mentioned earlier (09:09 BST) that Leicester City transfer target N'Golo Kante has been speaking to a French radio station about his future.

Kante currently plays for Caen but is a target for both Leicester and Marseille.

"For now anyway I am in Caen. But we will try to resolve the situation with the club and my agents, and I hope this matter gets sorted," Kante said.

"I am in talks with several clubs, and I will make my choice later - today nothing is decided."

Asked if the arrival of Claudio Ranieri was likely to change his state of mind, Kante replied: "It's already something important that they have a coach now, and a few days ago I didn't know what Leicester was like, as there was no coach. Today, for sure, it's an important factor."

They will head to the Nou Camp, home of Lionel Messi and co, "to work on the physical, technical and tactical aspects of handball".

Sanchez to miss start of season

Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez will miss the start of the season after helping Chile win the Copa America.

The 26-year-old scored 25 goals for the Gunners last season as Arsene Wenger's side finished third in the Premier League, and added a stunning goal as they won the FA Cup.

Wenger said: "Alexis will be back with us on 3 August and usually it takes three weeks to be competitive. With Alexis it could be a bit less. He will miss certainly the first game."

It means Sanchez will definitely miss the Community Shield against Chelsea on 2 August and is a doubt for the Gunners opening Premier League match against West Ham a week later.

Game on

South Africa captain Hashim Amla has won the toss and elected to bat first in the third and final one-day international against Bangladesh.

The two teams are locked at 1-1 in three-match series.

South Africa won the first game by eight wickets before Bangladesh bounced back to square the series with a seven-wicket win in the second match.

Money talk

He may have signed for Fenerbahce and been officially unveiled in front of thousands of ecstatic supporters, but it has emerged that Man United are still wrangling with the Turkish club over a fee for Robin van Persie.

Van Persie flew to Turkey on Sunday before completing a medical the following day and then agreeing terms on a three-year contract.

United do not expect to receive a big sum for the Dutchman given that he turns 32 in three weeks' time but want around £5m - a fee yet to be agreed.

Britton set to move on

Leon Britton will not "take the money and not play" at Swansea City, according to former Premier League boss Harry Redknapp.

The midfielder, 32, chose not to travel on Swansea's pre-season tour to Germany because his time on the pitch would be limited. That gave the clearest indication yet that Britton could be about to move on.

"Time and tide waits for no man. If he wants to play regularly Britton may have to leave Swansea," Redknapp said.

Britton, who has been with the club for 13 years, has been linked with a move to Major League Soccer in America, where Redknapp played when he joined Seattle in 1976.

City take the lead

Man City are in action for the first time this season today, taking on Adelaide United.

The starting line up was: Caballero, Maffeo, Kompany (C), Humphreys, Horsfield, Nasri, Toure, Garcia, Ntcham, Pozo, Iheanacho.

It was 0-0 at half-time, at which point - much like an England friendly in the Sven Goran-Eriksson era - City made 11 substitutions.

And the changes have worked - youngster Brandon Barker has just scored, City lead 1-0 with 20 minutes to go.

County Championship prospects

An exciting finish is in prospect at Chester-le-Street, weather permitting, where Warwickshire will begin the final day on 125-3, needing another 139 runs to beat Durham in their Division One game.

In Division Two, Glamorgan ended day three going well on 110-1 against Essex at Chelmsford, but the Welsh county need to score another 352 to achieve their fifth victory in six games.

At The Oval, meanwhile, Surrey are 144-1 in reply to Kent's 336 all out, with opening batsman Arun Harinath 76 not out, and two days still to play.

All-rounder Ben Stokes says England's impressive start to the Ashes series feels "like revenge".

England lost 5-0 in Australia in 2013-14 but head into the second Test at Lord's tomorrow on the back of an impressive 169-run win at Cardiff.

Ranieri 'important element' in Kante move

Leicester City transfer target N'Golo Kante has told a French radio station the appointment of Claudio Ranieri as manager is an "important element" to his decision whether to leave Caen for the Premier League.

Talks have been rumbling on for the past few weeks, with Caen suggesting that Leicester were close to a deal for the midfielder having offered more than Marseille. However, although the trail has gone cold, some kind of conclusion is expected in the near future.

Setback at the double

Bad news for the two British representatives in Champions League second qualifying round action last night.

Welsh team The New Saints conceded 13 minutes from time to lose 1-0 at home to Videoton and face an uphill task in the return leg on 22 July.

Good story in the Blackpool Gazette today.

It says the club's chairman Karl Oyston - banned from any football-related activity for six weeks after sending an abusive text to a supporter - has appointed his wife as stand-in.

The paper says Oyston rushed through an application for his wife, who was required to meet 'fit and proper person' criteria.

Tour de France leader Chris Froome wants more respect after again stressing he is a "clean rider" following a dominant stage-10 victory.

Team Sky claimed on Monday their computers had been hacked by critics convinced 30-year-old Froome is using performance-enhancing drugs.

Briton Froome said: "I do understand where the questions are coming from, the history of the sport and the people before me who have won the Tour.

"I am sympathetic, but at the same time there needs to be a certain level of respect also."

The Team Sky rider is now well positioned to secure a second win after powering away from the field on the first major climb of this year's race to open up a substantial lead at the head of the standings.

Tournament axed

Organisers of the Champions League Twenty20 have cancelled the tournament with immediate effect due to a lack of public interest.

The annual tournament, launched in 2009, featured the domestic T20 champions from around the world.

It has been scrapped after organisers "determined that the discontinuation of the league was the most appropriate decision due to the tournament's limited public following".

The CLT20 was launched in the wake of the early success of the Indian Premier League.

Waving goodbye

Robin van Persie is the other big mover, officially completing his move to Fenerbahce.

The Dutch striker insists he has "no hard feelings" over his departure from Man United.

"It's part of football, it's part of life. It was a situation where I could see it coming, if I'm really honest," said the 31-year-old.

"I had a good moment with the United players the day before I came to Istanbul so that was special. Then you see that everyone really appreciated my time there, that was important for me."

Van Persie will certainly be missed in the Premier League, scoring some special, special goals during his time at United and Arsenal. Go on Robin, show us that celebration one last time.

Stuart Brennan from the Manchester Evening News is tracking Raheem Sterling as he heads to Australia to link up with his new Manchester City team-mates...

Sterling, who joined Liverpool from QPR in 2010, paid tribute to three Reds managers he has worked under, as well as agent Aidy Ward, who said in May that Sterling would not sign a new deal at Liverpool even if offered "£900,000 a week".

"I'd like to thank Rafa Benitez for taking me to Liverpool as a 15 year-old - that was a massive step for me and a new challenge," said Sterling.

"Also to Kenny Dalglish for showing such faith in me and putting me in at such a young age.

"I want to thank Brendan Rodgers for giving me a chance and an opportunity in the first team, and giving me a real chance to cement a place in the first team and show the world my talents."

Sterling, who will wear the number seven shirt at City, will fly to Australia in the next 24 hours to join his new team-mates on the Blues pre-season tour.

'World-class squad'

But now let's talk about - and this may not come as a great shock to you - Mr R Sterling.

The 20-year-old says his new club Manchester City (you may possibly have heard he's joined them from Liverpool - it's been in the media a little over the last few days) have a world class squad, "capable of winning things year in, year out".

After completing his £49m deal, the winger said: I'm just glad it's all over and done with and I can't wait.

"The more quality players around you, the more quality it brings out in you."

Sterling had been under contract at Liverpool until 2017 but turned down a £100,000-a-week deal to extend his five-year stay at Anfield.

'He's excited'

Talking about the signing of Barcelona winger Moha El Ouriachi, Stoke's chief executive Tony Scholes said: "He's excited about joining a Premier League club, especially one that already has two former Barcelona players in their squad.

"Moha has seen the progress made by Bojan and Marc and wants to try and do likewise."

Stoke City have completed a deal for Barcelona winger Moha El Ouriachi, and the 19-year-old could make his first appearance for the club in today's Asia Trophy tie against Everton.

Moha turned down Barcelona's offer of a new contract to move to the Potters, where he links-up with ex-Barca players Bojan and Marc Muniesa.

He has represented Spain at youth level and - confusingly - has also been called-up by his native Morocco for their under-23 squad.
