The Daily Mail are reporting that highly-rated Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford is on his way to Crystal Palace on a season-long loan.

The 21-year-old has previously had successful spells on loan at Middlesbrough and Derby.

World champion Stuart Bingham has provided £1,000 to help with prize money for an amateur snooker tournament.

The Snookerbacker Classic found itself in dire straits after a major sponsor pulled out.

But thanks to Bingham and others, including six-time world champion Steve Davis who also donated £1,000, the tournament is now able to offer a total of £11,500 in prize money, with £3,000 going to the winner.

Crolla targeting Perez rematch

Manchester's Anthony Crolla is targeting a second WBA lightweight title fight with Colombia's Darleys Perez following their controversial draw on Saturday.

Judges scored the fight 116-111 for Crolla, 114-113 for Perez and 113-113.

"It was a really tough fight and there were a lot of close rounds, but I definitely thought I won," the 28-year-old told BBC Radio Manchester.

"I'm yet to come across anyone, whether it be on social media or in person, who actually thought Perez had done enough for the title."

Ranieri issues plea to Cambiasso

In case you missed it earlier, Claudio Ranieri met the media for the first time as Leicester City's new manager.

Ranieri, 63, was appointed by the Foxes last week, returning to England 11 years after leaving Chelsea.

And he revealed he has spoken to Esteban Cambiasso about a return to the club.

Ranieri said he has pleaded with Cambiasso, whom he has managed before, to "please come back".

The 19-year-old midfielder is captain of the Premier League club's under-21 side and he has represented England at Under-20 level.

Celtic's Ciftci banned after bite

Nadir Ciftci has been found guilty of biting Jim McAlister in last season's Dundee derby.

The 23-year-old striker was given an eight-match ban with two suspended until the end of the season for "excessive misconduct".

The penalty was decided by a judicial panel convened by the Scottish FA after Ciftci denied the offence.

Everton youngster signs new deal

Teenage striker Courtney Duffus has signed a two-year contract extension with Everton to keep him at Goodison Park until 2017.

The 19-year-old forward is yet to make his senior bow for the Toffees, but he was named on the bench for a Europa League tie against Young Boys in February and spent a month on loan with Bury last term.

Duffus is currently sidelined following knee surgery but is targeting a return to action in September.

Thomas crashes as Plaza wins stage 16

Britain's Geraint Thomas suffered a spectacular crash as Spain's Ruben Plaza won stage 16 of the Tour de France.

Team Sky's Thomas collided with Warren Barguil on the final descent and he hit his head on a telegraph pole and fell off the side of the road, but was soon back on his bike.

Plaza held off green jersey leader Peter Sagan to win the stage as Britain's Chris Froome retained his overall lead.

Doncaster sign Taylor-Sinclair

Doncaster Rovers have signed defender Aaron Taylor-Sinclair on a two-year deal from Wigan Athletic.

The 24-year-old, who is predominantly a left-back, has previously played for Aberdeen, Montrose and Partick Thistle.

'He'll have an outstanding year'

Jordan Henderson will become an even better player this season despite the additional responsibility of captaining Liverpool, according to the club's manager Brendan Rodgers.

England international Henderson takes over the captain's armband from Anfield hero Steven Gerrard.

"When I was aware that Stevie was going I wanted to look at somebody who would be a great ambassador for Liverpool on and off the pitch," said Rodgers.

England primed for Women's Ashes

England start their Women's Ashes campaign against Australia on Tuesday, with the first one-day international at Taunton.

Captain Charlotte Edwards was speaking to the media on Monday and said: "We want really good batting pitches to show the women's game in a great light.

"We've played well in the last two Ashes series but they've outdone us in the World Cup. Come the 31 August, the best team will win."

Every ball of the Women's Ashes will be live on 5 live sports extra.

Wakefield fear Locke out for season

Wakefield full-back Kevin Locke could miss the rest of the Super League season after he had to go off in Sunday's 58-20 defeat by Castleford.

Locke, 26, was replaced in the first half of only his third appearance for the Wildcats.

"It's serious, sort of chest and upper arm, it's to do with his pectoral and maybe ligaments," head coach Brian Smith told BBC Radio Leeds.

Meanwhile, Wakefield have signed Tonga international Bill Tupou from Canberra Raiders for the rest of the season.

'Racism rife in Russia'

Zenit St Petersburg striker Hulk says he encounters racism in "almost every game" in Russia and fears it could tarnish the country when it hosts the 2018 World Cup.

Brazil international Hulk - the most expensive signing in Russian Premier League history - has repeatedly faced monkey chants in Russia and also accused a referee of racially abusing him.

"If racism happens in the World Cup, it will be really gross and really ugly. Usually it happens when Russian clubs play and it doesn't come out to the world and the world doesn't know about this,'' he said,

Taylor's heroics

"Nearly a record-breaking afternoon at Horsham where, under leaden skies, James Taylor fell just 21 runs short of the all-time Nottinghamshire score by Walter Keeton in 1939. However, his 291 was a career-best, and his partnership of 365 with Chris Read, who made 121 was a Notts sixth-wicket record against Sussex."

Plaza wins sprint finish

Spain's Ruben Plaza won the 16th stage of the Tour de France after a gripping chase down the final descent with green jersey leader Peter Sagan.

It is the fifth time in this year's Tour that Sagan has finished second.

Britain's Chris Froome led by three minutes 10 seconds going into the 201km stage, from Bourg-de-Peage to Gap.

But he and the other race leaders remained in the peloton, which was 20 minutes behind the stage leaders going into the final descent.

After Tuesday's rest day, the Tour continues on Wednesday with a 161km stage starting in Digne-les-bains.

Rooney to play in 'Big Dunc' testimonial

Former Everton striker Duncan Ferguson - or 'Big Dunc' to his mates - has enlisted a famous face for his testimonial on 2 August.

"As a young lad growing up in Croxteth, Duncan Ferguson was a hero of mine," said the Manchester United striker.

Chapple continues Lancashire dominance

Lancashire turned the screw on Glamorgan on the second afternoon, with Glen Chapple claiming two early wickets after massive career-best scores from former South African Test batsmen Alviro Petersen (286) and Ashwell Prince (261). They became only the 13th pair in first-class history to share a 500-run partnership.

'Bianchi would have driven for Ferrari'

Jules Bianchi was being lined up as a future Ferrari driver, according to the Italian team's former chairman Luca di Montezemolo.

"Jules Bianchi was one of us," Di Montezemolo said. "He was a member of the Ferrari family and was the driver we had picked for the future - once the collaboration with Kimi Raikkonen was over.

"He was first class: private, fast, polite, very attached to Ferrari and promising."

The 25-year-old Frenchman died on Saturday from severe head injuries sustained in a crash at last October's Japanese Grand Prix.

Pep in politics

Bayern Munich coach and Barcelona legend Pep Guardiola is to make a symbolic stand for election to the Catalan parliament in a campaign for his native region to be independent from Spain.

Spanish newspaper El Pais said Guardiola would stand as the last candidate on the electoral list for the pro-independence alliance planning to run in the election in September.

The 44-year-old has several times publicly displayed his support for the drive to make Catalonia break away from Spain. He flew over from Munich last November to vote in a symbolic non-biding ballot on the issue held by regional leaders.

Ranieri was sacked from his last job, as the coach of Greece, last November after the 2004 European champions lost to the Faroe Islands. That, he insists, should to count against him.

"In Greece, I must rebuild everything because two or three good players left the national team. Claudio is not the problem. It was difficult to coach a new national team. I arrived a a day before a match. I had four matches, three defeats and one draw.

"I am an older man. I won divisions, Super League, cups and I'm ready and hungry and restart again early. I'm ambitious. There is a good project and a good programme here at the club."

Petrov talks about cancer battle

Former Aston Villa captain Stiliyan Petrov opened up about the "lowest moment" of his battle with cancer in an intimate interview on BBC Radio 5 live.

The ex-Celtic and Bulgaria midfielder, who was diagnosed with acute myloid leukaemia in March 2012, said at times he felt he was "dragging back" his family.

"The wife, the kids - I couldn't get up with them, they couldn't see me for a year," said Petrov. "I couldn't fulfil what I want - always to be a good husband and a good father. That was being taken away from me."

Lancashire's marathon partnership ends

The mammoth third-wicket partnership between Lancashire pair Ashwell Prince and Alviro Petersen has ended.

They put on 501 together at Colwyn Bay, and they're only the 13th pair to put on a 500-run stand in first-class cricket.

Prince was dismissed for a career-best 261, but Petersen remains at the crease on 275 not out and is only 25 runs away from his maiden triple century.

Fifa sources are saying that a reform taskforce will be announced by president Sepp Blatter at news conference (approx 14:00 BST).

Term limits have been approved in principle by Fifa Executive Committee, while integrity checks for Exco members and salary transparency have also agreed.

Jenny Durkan of Quinn Emanuel - the US lawyers for Fifa - also made a "short and effective" speech to the executive committee on the need to be cooperative with the US criminal inquiry.

The £49m signing from Liverpool is in line to feature in the International Champions Cup match in Melbourne, while other returning internationals such as Joe Hart, David Silva and Edin Dzeko could also be involved.

Double tragedy

Two Spanish riders have died after a multi-bike crash at a World Superbike support event in California on Sunday.

The crash happened on lap one of the MotoAmerica Superbike/Superstock 1000 race at Mazda Raceway in Laguna Seca.

Bernat Martinez, 35, went by ambulance to hospital in Monterey while Daniel Rivas Fernandez, 27, was flown to Salinas. Both died from their injuries.

MotoAmerica president Wayne Rainey sent his "sincere condolences" to their families and the "MotoAmerica family".

Chelsea unconcerned by Kirby injury

Chelsea Ladies say they are unconcerned by the injury preventing Fran Kirby from making her debut for the Women's Super League club.

The 22-year-old forward joined from Reading shortly after helping England to third place at the World Cup in Canada.

Assistant manager Paul Green said Kirby suffered a slight injury during the tournament, telling BBC Sport: "She's just got a little niggle that we've got to be careful with, but we're not in a rush for her to come into the team."

After winning the first Test by 169 runs, England were bowled out for 103 on Sunday to lose within four days.

"It was pants down and backsides smacked," said England's Australian coach Trevor Bayliss said. "We were outplayed in this game. It's never a great start when they're 300-1 and we were always chasing the game from there."

Bath centre Ben Williams has been forced to retire from rugby because of a shoulder injury.

The 26-year-old former England Under-16 and Under-18 cap made 37 appearances for Bath, scoring five tries.

Scottish football: Big in China?

The Scottish Professional Football League has agreed a deal to show live matches on mainstream television in China for the first time.

The deal, thought to be worth about £500,000 a year for three years, will make up to 55 Scottish Premiership games available across TV, online and mobile.

Great Britain won three more gold medals on Sunday to finish with a total of 10 at the IPC Swimming World Championships in Glasgow.

Tully Kearney won her third individual title in the SM9 200m individual medley, before teaming up with Alice Tai, Claire Cashmore and Susie Rodgers to win the medley relay.

There was also gold for Jessica-Jane Applegate in the S14 100m backstroke.

It means Britain finish the event in fifth place in the medal table with 32 medals.

The 20-year-old forward insists a stomach bug kept him away from training, and it had nothing to do with his £49m move to Manchester City, which was completed last week.

Northants head into day three of their Division Two match against Derbyshire at Northampton fighting to save the game.

The hosts will resume their second innings on 245-6 having been made to follow on, with the scores now level after the visitors wracked up 361 on the opening day.

Lancashire batsmen Ashwell Prince and Alviro Petersen will hope to continue where they left off against Glamorgan on day one, with the pair having shared 321 for the third wicket to guide their side to a commanding 425-2.

Manchester United are ready to gamble on the fitness of striker Wayne Rooney, and may not bring in any more forwards.

Javier Hernandez and James Wilson are the only other established strikers left after Robin van Persie joined Fenerbahce and Radamel Falcao's loan ended.

Boss Louis van Gaal is considering using Rooney as a sole striker with support coming from summer signing Memphis Depay behind him.

"I am not worried about depth of forwards," said the Reds boss. "We also have Javier Hernandez, James Wilson and maybe a surprise [signing], you never know. It is a process."

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes says he wants to bring in one more "top-quality" player before the start of the season.

The Potters have been active so far in the transfer window, bringing in seven new faces on permanent and loan deals.

Hughes is understood to be ready to break the club's transfer record by paying the £13.5m for the Dynamo Kiev forward Andriy Yarmolenko after missing out on a couple of other big-name signings.

"He's the level of player we're looking to bring in," said Hughes. "We're still hopeful of getting a player of real top quality if we can do that we'll be done for the window."

Andy Murray is heading off on a beach holiday today, and well deserved it is too.

The Scot almost single-handedly led Great Britain to victory over France in the Davis Cup, not only winning two singles matches but a doubles too with brother Jamie.

Murray looked exhausted when trailing by a set and a break to France's Giles Simon yesterday, but he hit back to win 4-6 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 6-0.

Britain will host Australia in the semi-finals on 18-20 September, with a venue to be chosen by early August. It will be the first time they've made the semis of the Davis Cup since 1981. Well done team.

De Gea 'most important signing'

Louis van Gaal's eyes tend to roll when he is asked about the future of David de Gea.

Journalists covering Manchester United's tour of the United States are politely told none of De Gea's team-mates will make any comment about him, either.

The reason is obvious, and encapsulated by Lou Macari, the former United striker who is on tour as part of the club's broadcasting arm.

"We have made some good signings but I have always said the biggest and best one would be the goalkeeper," Macari told BBC Sport. "To lose someone like that would be a massive blow."

Amateur leads the way

No doubting who the star of this year's Open Championship is - and it ain't Jordan Spieth.

Granted the American may yet turn out to write a little piece of golfing history should he go on to win a third straight major of the year, but it is Paul Dunne - a 22-year-old amateur from Ireland - who has caught the public's imagination.

The graduate of the University of Alabama - the same school that Graeme McDowell attended - is one shot ahead of superstar Spieth, tied for the lead with Louis Oosthuizen and Jason Day.

Not since 1930 has an amateur won The Open - and that was the immortal Bobby Jones.

"It's surreal," said Dunne. "I hope that somebody took a picture of the leaderboard to send to me."

Martin Olsson has travelled with the Norwich City squad for a pre-season training camp in Germany after having shoulder surgery earlier in the summer.

Youngsters Jacob Murphy and Harry Toffolo have also been included in the 25-man squad but Josh Murphy and recent signing Louis Thompson are with the under-21 squad at a separate camp in Austria.

Australian surfer Mick Fanning had a remarkable escape after being attacked by two sharks during a major competition in South Africa.

Competing in a live televised event in Jeffreys Bay, on the eastern Cape, three-time world champion Fanning was knocked off his surfboard by a huge shark and into the sea.

"I was just sitting there and I felt something just get stuck in my leg rope, and I was kicking trying to get it away," Fanning told Fox Sports. "I just saw fins. I was waiting for the teeth."

Not surprisingly, the tournament was called off soon afterwards. Watch what happened here.

Cardiff City striker Adam Le Fondre is on his way out of the Championship club.

The 28-year-old, signed from Reading in May 2014, spent the second half of 2014-15 on loan at Bolton after scoring just three times for the Bluebirds.

"We've come to an agreement where I won't be playing my football at Cardiff anymore," the striker said. "I'm just waiting for the perfect opportunity and the right club for me to go to."

There is a reason for such tomfoolery, after the Chelsea boss compared trying to sign Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba to the Eiffel Tower.

"I think everybody has an interest in Pogba," said Mourinho. "But there are things you can do and things you cannot do. I love the Eiffel Tower but I can't have it in my garden."

Mourinho insists he will not be making a move for Pogba. So expect him to make a move for Pogba.

Manchester United will wear black armbands when they play MLS side San Jose Earthquakes on Tuesday.

The gesture is in honour of a member of United's medical team, Gail Stephenson, who has died after a short illness.

Stephenson was appointed by Sir Alex Ferguson as an orthoptist scientist and it was her who identified that United's grey shirts - famously ditched by the Scottish manager during a game at Southampton in 1996 - took longer for players to pick out during a match.

The Reds have agreed a £32.5m with Aston Villa for Christian Benteke and as we speak Liverpool's club doctor is hot-footing it back to the UK from the team's tour of Australia to complete the new boy's medical.

Sepp Blatter has arrived at Fifa's headquarters in Zurich ahead of a key meeting which will decide the date for an emergency congress.

That meeting will see Blatter's successor as Fifa president elected and see all 209 member football associations vote on proposed reforms to the organisation.

Blatter arrived just after 6.50am local time (05:50 BST), driving himself in a black Mercedes.
