Easy win for Kiwis

New Zealand thumped Zimbabwe by 10 wickets in the second one-day international on Tuesday, with openers Martin Guptill and Tom Latham both making unbeaten centuries to level the series at 1-1.

Wth Guptill and Latham rampant, New Zealand made 236-0 to easily pass Zimbabwe's 235-9 with over seven overs to spare. Latham's 110 not out was his first hundred in ODIs.

Ex-Republic of Ireland midfielder Andrews retires

Former Republic of Ireland midfielder Keith Andrews has retired as a player to become first-team coach at his former team MK Dons.

The 34-year-old made 412 appearances in all competitions for 12 different clubs, including Wolves, Blackburn and Bolton, who released him in May.

He also had two spells with MK Dons, helping them win the League Two title and Johnstone's Paint Trophy in 2008.

Andrews earned 35 international caps for the Republic, scoring three times.

Fulham have made their seventh summer signing by paying an undisclosed fee for Finland international Sakari Mattila.

The 26-year-old defensive midfielder arrives from Norwegian club Aalesunds on a two-year contract, with an options for a further 12 months.

"From day one when I heard about the interest I was looking forward to this moment," he said.

He says that captain Fabricio Coloccini wants to stay at St James's Park despite reports linking him with a move to Crystal Palace.

"Coloccini has always been the captain and is the most experienced player. My dealings with him have been excellent.

"The speculation over his future has distracted him this season. I've said let's work together and see if we get on. We have had long, long talks with all the speculation with Palace and his own future."

Sergio Molina has signed on a three-year deal.

He came up through Real Madrid's youth system, having been at the club since the age of nine.

He also captained them at every level from Under-10 to Under-19.

Molina featured for Real in the UEFA Youth League last season, scoring twice in six appearances.

Molina will initially become a member of the Potters' Under-21 squad.

The Bosnian was part of two Premier League title-winning squads, scoring the vital injury-time equaliser in the dramatic final-day encounter with QPR in 2012.

The new Dutch league season faces a chaotic start as police strike action has led to three fixtures on the opening weekend being called off and more under threat.

Champions PSV Eindhoven could also see the first match of their season called off.

"We need everyone together," said Heerenveen mayor Tjeerd van der Zwan. "The police are a necessary partner at games. It would irresponsible to let a game go ahead without any police support."

Jack Green will compete in the men's 400 metres hurdles at the World Athletics Championships later this month after a successful appeal to British Athletics.

Green has been included in the Great Britain team for the World Championships - which take place in Beijing from August 22 to 30 - and will also compete in the 4x400m relay team.

Wycombe Wanderers have signed former Dundee midfielder Stephen McGinn, while defenders Sido Jombati and Joe Jacobson have penned contract extensions until 2018.

Former Scotland Under-21 international McGinn, 26, was released by Dundee in the summer and has been on trial with Wycombe, featuring in four friendlies.

Jombati, 27, made 39 appearances after joining from Cheltenham last summer and left-back Jacobson moved from Shrewsbury in 2014, and the 28-year-old played 49 times in his first season.

Uefa dismiss Fred protest

Uefa have dismissed Fenerbahce's protest against Shakhtar Donetsk fielding a player in a Champions League qualifying match who previously tested positive for doping.

Brazil midfielder Fred tested positive for a banned diuretic at the recent Copa America in Chile, the Brazilian Football Confederation confirmed on Friday. The 22-year-old has denied using the substance hydrochlorothiazide.

Shakhtar coach Mircea Lucescu admitted Uefa had advised him not to play Fred in the third qualifying round first-leg tie, which finished 0-0.

Uefa discipline Kukes after Europa trouble

Uefa have awarded Polish side Legia Warsaw a 3-0 win in their Europa League third qualifying round, first-leg tie against Kukes after trouble marred last week's match in Albania.

The match last Thursday was abandoned with Legia leading 2-1 after the visitors' Slovakian midfielder Ondrej Duda appeared to be struck in the head by a stone thrown from the stands.

Kukes were also ordered to play their next two European home games behind closed doors and were fined £49,309 for setting off of fireworks throwing objects, crowd disturbances and the displaying of an illicit banner.

The second leg will go ahead as planned on Thursday.

Bournemouth chairman Jeff Mostyn has confirmed that their replica shirts will not be available till their fourth game of the Premier League season.

Speaking to BBC Radio Solent's Fans Forum, Mostyn explained that the delay was caused because of the 150-day lead time needed to get the shirts manufactured and in store.

"The latest update is that we will have them prior to the Leicester game [on 29th August], but that is subject to change," Mostyn said. "No-one is more frustrated than us. Our chief executive is ripping his hair out about it.

"It's got good enough and it's not a Premier League style. We now have to act like a Premier League club on and off the pitch. They know from a legal standpoint - with the letters that have been exchanged - that they will never get away with this charade again."

Farewell Rafael

Confirmation of some transfer news from overnight, and Rafael da Silva has joined French club Lyon from Manchester United on a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee.

The 25-year-old right-back, who has two Brazil caps, moved to United along with his twin brother Fabio from Fluminense in 2008.

However, he had fallen out of favour at the club under Louis van Gaal, starting just six league games last season.

I have been told all summer that any substantive talks involving United and Real Madrid surround David de Gea and Sergio Ramos - and that remains the case. Trying to put Bale into the mix would only complicate matters.

If he was given any encouragement, I am sure Louis van Gaal would be interested in Bale, but the Welshman is understood to be happy in Madrid.

In happier news for United fans, Guardiola heaped praise for rumoured Reds transfer target Pedro.

Bayern boss Guardiola watched the Barcelona forward develop during his time at the Nou Camp and rates him as being among the very best.

"Pedro is one of the best players you can imagine," Guardiola added.

"He's won the European Cup, the Champions League and played millions of games for Barcelona. He can play in any team in the world, but I don't know the situation right now. He's a great player."

Louis van Gaal is reported to be keen to bring the player to Old Trafford before the end of the transfer window.

Fitness struggles

Pep Guardiola has cast doubts over Bastian Schweinsteiger's fitness by revealing the Manchester United midfielder has not been problem-free for three years.

Bale fail

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has made two world-record £100m bids for Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale this summer, claims today's Sun newspaper.

Making a splash

Adam Peaty is all over today's papers after becoming the first British world champion in the 100m breaststroke since David Wilkie won both the 100m and 200m in 1975.

Cipriani reprieve

A spot of rugby now and it's good news for England and, in particular, fly-half Danny Cipriani, who will now be available for the World Cup after being re-bailed following his arrest on suspicion of drink-driving.

The 27-year-old Sale Sharks player was arrested on 1 June after an early morning car crash in west London.

A police spokesman said Cipriani had been re-bailed until mid-November pending further inquiries - which means the player could feature in a World Cup which runs from 18 September to 31 October.

More than a decade after he departed the club, Bobby Zamora has returned to Brighton.

The 34-year-old - who played for Albion between 2000 and 2003 and scoring 83 goals in 136 games before joining Tottenham - has signed a one-year deal.

Stoke legend Alan Hudson thinks the club can break in to the Premier League's top four this season.

Mark Hughes's team has finished ninth in each of the last two campaigns but, speaking on Sport at Six on BBC Radio Stoke on Monday, Hudson said: "I see no reason why Stoke can't be in the top four or five.

"Mark Hughes has transformed the team and with so many other clubs in a transitional period this could be Stoke's year."
