He has just won his third gold but the mother of double world gold medallist Adam Peaty has been embarrassing him on BBC Radio 5 live.

"Adam wouldn't sit down in the bath or stand under the shower. He'd just use to scream," Caroline Peaty said, referring to her wee boy's formative years.

"My friend then took him to go swimming as I couldn't because it would break my heart as he would just scream. But after a week he got used to it."

Fans chase team off pitch

Troubled Bulgarian side CSKA Sofia have been ordered to play three home games with two stands closed after their fans chased Israeli side Ashdod off the pitch in a friendly.

The incident occurred in the last seconds of a pre-season home game on Sunday with Ashdod 0-1 up despite having three players being sent off.

Angered by what they saw as aggressive play by the Ashdod players, CSKA fans threw bottles and stormed the pitch, prompting the Israeli players to flee into empty stands for safety.

No one was injured but the Bulgarian Football Union's disciplinary committee fined CSKA and ordered the temporary closure of two stands.

It is the 20-year-old's second title at the championships after taking gold in the men's 100m breaststroke on Monday.

Meanwhile, Joshua says he "cannot get carried away with praise" after world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko called him the most promising boxer he has seen "in 25 years".

The ECB have confirmed that England bowler James Anderson is using an oxygen tent as part of his recovery in an effort to be fit for the fifth Ashes Test.

The 33-year-old, who was injured during the third Test against Australia at Edgbaston, uses it for an hour a day and will do so for around a week.

Borini, 24, was Brendan Rodgers' first signing at Anfield for £11m from Roma in 2012.

On a similar theme to the player who disappeared from Birmingham halfway through his medical, Iraq have had a similar thing happened with their manager.

Dzemal Hadziabdic, who who played for Swansea during in the early 1980s, flew into Baghdad having agreed to take charge of the Iraqi national side - but then flew out again 24 hours later.

"We were surprised he turned down the job and demanded to fly back to his country immediately," Iraqi federation spokesman Kamel Zghayr said.

It happened at Birmingham City, according to boss Gary Rowett, who reveals the player had his head turned by another club offering more money.

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew has confirmed Crystal Palace do not want to sign Newcastle United defender Fabricio Coloccini.

Pardew said: "Contrary to the rumours and reports circulating in the media, we want to confirm we have no interest in Fabricio Coloccini and although he remains my ex-captain and a great player, he will not be coming to Crystal Palace."

On Tuesday, Newcastle manager Steve McClaren said Colocccini had been "distracted" by reports that he was to move to join former boss Pardew at Selhurst Park.

Bad news for Amir Khan. Undefeated Floyd Mayweather will attempt to match Rocky Marciano's record of 49 unanswered victories not against the Bolton man, but against Andre Berto on 12 September.

Former welterweight champion Berto has 30 wins and three losses. "Promise you this - I'm gonna be as ready as I've ever been. Don't act surprised on 9/12," tweeted Berto, 31.

Clark signs new Villa deal

Some words from manager Tim Sherwood on Ciaran Clark, who has signed a new five-year contract at Villa.

The 25-year-old had been linked with a move to Midlands rivals West Brom earlier in the summer.

BBC Three Counties Radio have been speaking to heavyweight Anthony Joshua, who WBA, IBF and WBO champion Wladimir Klitschko described last week as "the most promising boxer he has seen in 25 years".

Londoner Joshua, 25, is undefeated in 13 fights since turning professional after winning Olympic gold in 2012.

"It's just potential, I got to achieve it," he says, when asked about the comments. "It sounds good but I've got to keep my head down and go and achieve in what he believes and sees in me."

And in three days United will host Tottenham at 12.45 on Saturday.

But before that Spurs face another the not ideal preparation of a tough friendly against AC Milan at Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena at 17:15 BST.

More medals?

And following on from that, UK Sport claims Great Britain can become the first nation to win more medals after hosting the Olympics and better its London 2012 success at Rio 2016.

An exact target will be set next summer, but with a year to go until the 2016 Games in Brazil, UK Sport says improving on the record haul of 65 medals in 2012 is "within scope".

Since the modern Olympic era began in 1896, no host country has increased its medal tally at the next summer Games.

A Virtual Medal Table calculated by sports data company Infostrada Sports projects Great Britain will collect 48 medals.

Road to Rio

It's a momentous day in athletics - one year until the start of the Olympics in Rio.

The games will take place from 5 to 21 August, 2016, and more than 10,500 athletes from 205 National Olympic Committees will take part.

The games will feature 28 sports, including golf and rugby sevens, which will take place across 33 different venues across the city.

Bolton Wanderers have agreed a new one-year deal with ex-England striker Emile Heskey, 37.

Broady battles through

Great Britain's Broady battled from a set down and also saved a match point in the final-set tie-break as she earned an impressive 3-6 7-5 7-6 (8/6) success against Australian Jarmila Gajdosova at the Citi Open in Washington.

Florence and the Machine are clearly not tennis fans.

The Lawn Tennis Association has failed to persuade the band to change the date of their show at the Manchester Arena so the venue could host Britain's Davis Cup semi-final.

Glasgow's Emirates Arena is now expected to stage Team GB's meeting with Australia from 18-20 September.

The LTA also looked into holding the tie at the Hydro in Glasgow but found the roof would not be high enough (presumably because of the amount of lob shots Andy Murray plays).

Murray, of course, heroically won three matches during Team GB's quarter-final defeat of France at Queen's club.

As with quite a lot that's happened at Bournemouth in recent months, the Cherries spending £10m in one day is astonishing really.

Max Gradel had been a long-term target of Eddie Howe's and adds to an already exciting looking attacking portfolio. Lee Tomlin - who has arrived from Middlesbrough - seems to be the final piece in the pre-season jigsaw now and is another player who can get fans out of their seats.

Whether they make any further signings between now and the end of the window will probably depend on any injuries, but eight summer recruits gives the Cherries squad plenty of options, principally in the attacking positions.

Porto

He was once Southampton's club-record signing for £15m. But two years later and having played just 13 games for the Saints, Dani Osvaldo has joined Porto.

The Italian courted plenty of controversy while at Southampton, including being banned for a touch-line bust-up and then suspended for a training ground incident.

He had loan-spells at Juventus, Internazionale and Boca Juniors, before his contract terminated by Southampton in July.

Rovers reject Boro offer for Rhodes

Blackburn have rejected an offer from Middlesbrough for striker Jordan Rhodes, says Rovers boss Gary Bowyer.

The 25-year-old Scotland international had asked for talks with the Teesside club after a reported £12m bid was made for him.

"Yes, Middlesbrough have been in touch, I think they've put some figures to our owners," Bowyer told BBC Radio 5 live.

"Fortunately for myself and the rest of the lads, and of course our supporters, that bid has been rejected."

In the air

Check this out. Just six years ago  Southampton were unable to pay their staff and asked employees to work unpaid as a gesture of goodwill.

Now they're jetting off to a European game on a plane so snazzy it's even got the club's crest woven into the seats. How times change... 

Southampton beat Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem 3-0 in the first leg of their Europa League third qualifying round tie.

Januzaj to Sunderland?

Manchester United's young attacking midfielder Adnan Januzaj has once again been linked with a move to Sunderland, but this time on a loan basis.

Manager Dick Advocaat has said the club need six new faces this summer and owner Ellis Short backed the Dutchman's request but with a proviso that two of the six may have to be loan signings. One is likely to be QPR midfielder Leroy Fer and Januzaj also fits the profile of attacking players with an ability to score goals that the Dutch coach is looking for.

Champions League round-up

Elsewhere in the third round of qualifying; Monaco beat Swiss side Young Boys 4-0 (7-1 on aggregate) to progress to the next round.

Norwegian side Molde missed two penalties and had a player sent-off as they came back from 3-0 down to drew 3-3 with Dinamo Zagreb. The tie ended 4-4 on aggregate, but the Croatian side qualified on away goals.

Cypriot side APOEL lost to Denmark's Midtjylland 1-0 but qualified on away goals after the tie finished 2-2.

Ajax out

Ajax were the big casualty in Tuesday's Champions League third qualifying round, losing 4-5 on aggregate to Austrian side Rapid Wien.

The tie was poised at 2-2 after the first leg.

But in the second-leg the Dutch side conceded two early goals at the Amsterdam Arena and Louis Schaub goal 13 minutes from time gave Rapid a 3-2 victory.

And a last snippet on Chelsea's loan signing Falcao.

He may have been largely unimpressive at Man United last season but Jose Mourinho saw enough to take the Colombian to Chelsea - and Terry is looking forward to teaming up with the new man.

"Falcao's movement is unbelievable," the skipper said. "I could see that after two minutes playing against him last season. He didn't leave me alone.

"We managed to keep him at bay but he was up for it.

"I have now seen his finishing in unbelievable. His career is all about goals so I am hoping that is what he brings to the side."

A little more from Terry. "I feel ready and fit, ready to go for the new season. I am excited to go again and looking forward to retaining the Premier League title," the Blues captain said, with admirable confidence (not trying to retain, going to retain it).

"It is going to be tough because other teams have strengthened. Not only the physical side, but mentally we have to be ready too.

"The manager feels we have a good enough and big enough squad to do a job and we will put up a fight."

Back to London where it's like a conveyer belt of the Premier League's great and good ... and next up is John Terry.

He's talking about women's football and how his daughter is a bit of a player too.

"It is great to see the growth in women's football," said Terry. "Chelsea Ladies winning the FA Cup was a great feat. When I was growing up girl's team weren't accepted. Now we are seeing on TV what they are capable of.

"My daughter is a defender and she is aggressive like her dad. She enjoys it and plays with a smile on her face. That is good to see because there is so much pressure."

Record breakers

There's something in the water in Kazan. Hosts Russia broke the mixed 4x100m medley relay world record ... only for USA to eclipse it in the very next heat.

The Russian quartet clocked 3:45.87 to break the previous record of 3:46.52 set by Australia in Perth in January 2014.

But the USA recorded 3:42.43, the ninth time a world record has been broken in these championships in Kazan.

Great Britain's mixed 4x100m medley relay may have lost their world record but are through to tonight's final in second place, behind the USA.

Miley eases through

Let's briefly switch to the pool where Britain's Hannah Miley has qualified for the women's 200m semi-finals in Kazan. The 25-year-old was 13th fastest with two minutes 9.44 seconds.

Dan Wallace was second fastest in the 200m individual medley (1:58.28) and Roberto Pavoni (1:59.29) also reached the semi-finals.

Lauren Quigley qualified sixth fastest for the women's 50m backstroke semi-finals with a time of 27.94 seconds.

Later on Wednesday, world 100m breaststroke champion Adam Peaty competes in the 50m final.

And a last line from Pardew, who has been talking about a potential new signing.

"I am not going to give you a name but if we get him over the line, he is an exciting player. We are pretty close," said the boss.

"There were times last year when teams found out what we were and they didn't let us use the pace and power," said the Eagles gaffer.

"With Yohan Cabaye, we can go through the middle now. He can play for any of the top four sides and he has upped the game of the other players.

"Connor Wickham, Patrick Bamford and Alex McCarthy are all potential England players. They are the youth, ambition and exuberance. He hasn't been good at Sunderland, now he can improve and it is my job to do that.

"We have a difficult start and if we overcome that we can go better. Europe is where we can get at."

Sexy boy

Remember we told you Alan Pardew used to go to the school - Southfields Academy in London - where today's launch is taking place?

Well, asked for his recollections of his former stamping ground, the Crystal Palace boss has just come out with this gem.

We did well last season against Manchester United but we are looking forward to it. We have prepared well and hopefully we can put in a good performance.

"The way Chelsea performed last season, you have to look at them winning the title again. They eased to victory last season. It will be tighter up there this season though."

And on to his own squad: "Our new striker Eder has a great pedigree. He is mobile physically and technical too which suits our style of play. We did our business early so that we have five or six weeks to implement them into the set up. We are pretty much done in the transfer market now."

Garry Monk is the latest to impart some wit and wisdom to the media. Here's a bit of what he's been saying.

"We put a terrific amount of work in last summer but this close-season was much easier. I brought four players in and we have numbers and competition in the squad is high," he said.

"Our aim is to better or achieve what we did last season, that was fantastic. The TV money has kicked in so teams are spending a lot of money on improving squads so the competition will be hard. That is why it is the best league in the world."

Ashley Williams to Everton?

And while we're mentioning Ashley Williams, BBC Wales' Dafydd Pritchard has been tweeting...

"I have been trying so hard to make myself a better player," he said. "When we got promoted to the Premier League, I thought, I am in a city that I enjoy being in at a club I enjoy playing for them, so let's see how far we can go.

Asked about the build-up to Saturday's opening fixture against Chelsea, Williams added: "There is a little bit more on it because it is the first game and you get sick of the double sessions in pre-seasons. You try to keep as normal as possible but realise it is not just a normal week."

Wales captain Ashley Williams insists he is staying at Swansea City despite being linked with a £10m move to Premier League rivals Crystal Palace and Everton.

Williams' current Swansea deal expires in the summer of 2018 and the Swans apparently want around £15m for the 30-year-old centre-back.

The defender hinted this morning that there has been interest but Williams insists he is staying at the Liberty.

On new manager guidelines… "A bit of the soap opera is good. Cleary if it oversteps the mark and gets into what I call the unedifying category it needs to be dealt with. Ticket prices... "Clubs are working very hard to keep the grounds full and they absolutely know they've got to do that."

On what fans can expect from new season… "All the managers are expecting a tough season. As the money increases in the Premier League, as all the 20 clubs have got money to invest, so the competiveness increases. On Bournemouth… "They have a fantastic young manager. Clearly they've had some investment from the owner. They've also got the Premier League investment. They've had a fantastic summer. It's been a great story all round. Certainly they can compete to stay up.

On the title race... "I think everybody is expecting something a little tighter this year and that's what we hope for because that what we hope for every season."

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew has been speaking to the team from Football Focus.

He attended Southfields Academy, where Wednesday's event is being held, from 1972 to 1978. "It's changed a bit," he says.

Mourinho is asked to reassure Chelsea fans that Diego Costa will have an injury-free season. Quite sensible the Chelsea boss says he can't.

"Last week he couldn't play in the Community Shield game. He was not ready to be involved," said the Blues gaffer.

"I cannot reassure fans he will always be fit but I can assure them he is working well and hard and everybody around him is helping him.

"Am I concerned? I don't like the word concern because I have other players. I don't like to cry or moan about players that don't play. But obviously in such a short squad like we have, then when somebody is missing I am not happy. But it won't be an excuse for me."

Expect an excuse about the lack of available strikers then if Chelsea lose on Saturday.

Premier League launch

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is at the launch bright and early and seems in good spirits, happily talking away to the assembled media.

One of the first questions he's asked isn't about the Premier League launch - the reason he's there - but about that handshake, or lack of one, with Arsene Wenger.

"I don't want to make a story of it," he says. Too late for that Jose. "But if you walk in street you are not obliged to say hello to everyone or to shake hands with everyone.

"I know when your represent a club or institution in football, then it is a bit different.

"So for example in Community Shield I thought about my club, the place - Wembley - and it's history, and Wembley is the last stadium in the history of football where you don't behave properly ... but I don't think a manager has to shake hands with another one if he doesn't want to."

Pedro on the move?

Man United are on the verge of completing a £20m deal for Barcelona forward Pedro, according to The Sun.

The Daily Telegraph claims Reds boss Van Gaal has offered Pedro a role alongside Wayne Rooney and Memphis Depay in a new-look front three in order to convince him to move to Old Trafford.

Expect more on that transfer as the day goes on.

Premier League launch

So the Premier League officially kicks-off its 2015-16 season on Wednesday, not at the Emirates, Stamford Bridge or Old Trafford but at a secondary school in London.

Jose Mourinho, Gary Monk, Eddie Howe and Alan Pardew are attending proceedings at Southfields Academy, a school which has built a 3G artificial pitch and changing facilities after a £500,000 grant from the Premier League and FA Facilities Fund.

There are also some players milling about and we have reporters at the event, who will hopefully send us some news about what's going on and not just tuck into the free sandwiches that are bound to be on offer.
