    In case you missed it earlier, Xherdan Shaqiri shirts have been flying off the pegs at Stoke City since his £12m transfer from Inter Milan. 

    His is the fastest selling shirt in the club's history, external - and earlier on I plumped for Bojan as being the likely number two.

    South Africa coach Heyneke Meyer says that his team is behind him, despite accusations he is not picking enough black players.

    Peter de Villiers, the Springboks' only black boss to date, accused Meyer of taking the country "back to the late '80s" , external with his team selection for Saturday's shock defeat by Argentina.

    Meyer's starting XV included one mixed-race player and one who is black.

    "I don't look at colour, I look at the best players," he said.

    Former England World Cup-winner Will Greenwood believes Wales will not progress from their World Cup group.

    Wales will face England and Australia in Twickenham in Group A, with the top two making it into the quarter-finals.

    Greenwood, who won the Cup in 2003, says home advantage will be a deciding factor in England's favour and Australia will be too strong for Wales.

    "I really don't think people can underestimate Twickenham," Greenwood told BBC Radio Wales Sport.

    He does though, think that England will make at least the semi-finals...

    Colleagues of Chelsea team doctor Eva Carneiro say she "has been treated harshly" after criticism from boss Jose Mourinho for being "naive".

    Carneiro, 41, treated injured Eden Hazard in the final minutes ofChelsea's 2-2 draw with Swansea.

    It meant the player had to go off the pitch, leaving Chelsea with nine men following Thibaut Courtois's red card.

    Carneiro looks set to lose her place on the bench for the next Premier League match against Manchester City.

    Former City physio Eamonn Salmon, now chief executive of the Football Medical Association (FMA) , external which represents professional medical staff in the sport, said Carneiro and first-team physio Jon Fearn's had "conducted themselves with integrity and professionalism".

    Earlier we brought you the news that Barcelona's Uruguay forward Luis Suarez is on a three-man shortlist for Uefa's Best Player in Europe award for 2014-15 (that's last season).

    Suarez will be up against Barcelona team-mate Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid.

    The same 54-member panel who voted for nominees picks a winner on 27 August at the Champions League group draw in Monaco.

    A quarterback for the New York Jets will not be able to play for at least six weeks after a team-mate "sucker-punched" him and broke his jaw.

    Geno Smith and linebacker Ikemefuna Enemkpali got into an altercation inside the locker room on Tuesday, Jets Coach Todd Bowles said.

    "It had nothing to do with football," Bowles said of the fight. "It was something very childish."

    Enemkpali, a relative newcomer, lost his job after landing the punch.

    "You don't walk up to another man and punch him in the face," Bowles said.

    The number of home-grown players used in the Premier League last season was "not bad" but there is room for improvement, says Football Association chief executive Martin Glenn.

    Greg Dyke, the FA chairman, said recently , external that English players in the top flight are an "endangered species".

    Just 33.2% of the players who started games on the opening weekend were English, down from 35% last season.

    "The 35% is not a bad number per se, just lower than Germany," said Glenn.

    Almost 50% of starters in the Bundesliga last season were German, with Spain, France and Italy boasting figures , external of 58%, 56% and 43% respectively.

    It would be interesting to know what those "certain conditions" are exactly, but Roma are being equally cryptic. 

    They say they're paying £2.8m for the loan fee, and can buy the Bosnian striker for a further £7.8m at the end of the season. 

    But they also say that deal is dependent on "certain conditions". 

    Like scoring loads of goals, I guess?

    We've been expecting this one for quite some time but it's finally confirmed: Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko joins Serie A club Roma. 

    City say the deal is for a season-long loan, leading to a permanent transfer "if certain conditions are met".

    Sunderland winger Adam Johnson is ruled out for up to eight weeks after suffering a shoulder injury in training. 

    Manager Dick Advocaat said: “Adam will go to the hospital for a scan tonight and then we will know exactly what is wrong.

    “It is a serious injury and it will be at least eight weeks.”

    Everton are close to completing the signing of Barnsley defender Mason Holgate.

    BBC Radio Sheffield understands the Toffees are hopeful of signing the 18-year-old before the weekend.

    Bournemouth, Manchester United and Newcastle have all been linked with moves for the player this summer.

    If Holgate does make the move to Goodison Park, he would link up with former Tykes academy graduate John Stones, who joined the Premier League side from Barnsley in February 2013.
