Football
WillLionel Messistart Barcelona's Champions League match with Roma on Tuesday?
England seem to have taken inspiration from Jos Buttler's innings last week - they're motoring along quickly at 137-4 after 14 overs, having been put in to bat by UAE in Abu Dhabi.
There’ll have been thousands of Liverpool fans drooling over Saturday’s 4-1 win at Manchester City, and rightly so, it was a great performance.
The question now is can Jurgen Klopp’s men replicate that sort of form at Anfield?
Breaking teams down at home has been problematic for over a season – the domination of chances and possession is clearly there, but the ruthlessness in front of goal hasn’t.
But with Roberto Firmino now amongst the goals, and with Daniel Sturridge on the way back, Klopp will have more attacking options that’s for sure – but the away formation that didn’t include an out and out striker has worked wonders again – as it did at Chelsea.
Food for thought with Bordeaux and Swansea arriving over the next few days.

Keeper leaves to deal with family matter
Football
Leeds goalkeeper Charlie Horton has left the club to deal with a private family matter back home in America.
The USA Under-23 international has had his contract terminated just over five months since joining the club on a free transfer from Cardiff.
"I've had to leave because of a private family matter back home," Horton said. "For me there is only one thing which comes before this football club - my family. That is the sole reason I'm going home."
But it seems that Mourinho isn't going to say much on his former club.
"I left Chelsea in September 2007. I was waiting 8 months to work again when I went to Inter. During that period, I gave zero interviews - not one word about other clubs in trouble. I closed my mouth for 8 months", he said.
"In this moment, I see so many people speaking, especially about clubs in trouble. It's amazing the lack of respect, the lack of ethics.
"If I speak about Real Madrid, I speak when they are winning. Not when they are losing. So for me, words about the Clasico? Zero."

Real Madrid. Thrashed 4-0 at home to rivals Barcelona on Sunday, a reported falling-out between Cristiano Ronaldo and Rafael Benitez, and now president Florentino Perez has called a news conference for 18:30 GMT today.

More than 60 Kenyan athletes have occupied the headquarters of the sport's national governing body, stopping officials from entering.
They want Athletics Kenya (AK) officials to step down over corruption allegations linked to a deal with Nike.
"We are not leaving this place until our grievances have been heard and addressed," said Julius Ndegwa, the organising secretary of the Professional Athletes Association of Kenya.
AK Vice President David Okeyo has denied the allegations.
Suspended Fifa president Sepp Blatter and vice-president Michel Platini could face seven-year bans from football if found guilty of corruption claims.
Fifa ethics investigators are likely to have recommended the sanctions over a "disloyal payment" that saw Platini, 60, receive £1.35m from Blatter, 79.
There was no written contract for the consultation-work payment, which Platini received nine years later.
An adjudicatory committee could announce its verdict by Christmas.

"It is very simple for us, Steve Borthwick is employed by Bristol Rugby. He is here for two years and his focus is on Bristol Rugby getting promotion," Robinson told BBC Radio Bristol.
How far can Leicester go?

Today we're asking: Just how good are Leicester City? Will they finish in the Premier League's top four?
Niklas Lanwehr: Leicester to drop off significantly until end of February, eight of next 13 games against last seasons top six.
Mik Smith: Sick of "LCFC haven't played anyone big yet" argument - 28pts from 13 games is an incredible return, regardless of fixtures.
Jonathan Ford: 40 years ago Nottingham Forest had the audacity top the league before Christmas. Everyone said the same things as they are saying now.
And that's it. Arsene and Per troop off into the distance - well, through a door at the side of the room - and the assembled journalists start frantically typing their stories or making excited phone calls to editors. Or something like that.

"It is a horrible experience but what came out when I spoke to them was that they were quite clear about the situation and quite quickly back to normal.

Wenger is asked about his recent comments in which he suggested doping in football was a 'significant' problem.
Since then, the Gunners boss says, there have been a suspiciously high number of anti-doping testers turning up at Arsenal's training ground.
"I didn't know whether it was because of my comments," he tells an amused room.
Wenger is also asked specifically about Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Arijan Ademi, the player who tested positive after the Croatian club won the reverse fixture 2-1.

"I don't want to speculate too much on the career of a player but he's been punished," he added.

The loss of Coquelin with a knee injury adds to Arsenal's seemingly perennial injury woes with the likes of Danny Welbeck and Tomas Rosicky enduring lengthy absences.
But Wenger says the problem is no worse than previous seasons, with Aaron Ramsey, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott due to return soon.
"We've been hit very hard in November because until the Sheffield Wednesday game in the League Cup we had a good record but since we have lost a few players," he said.
"We have Ramsey and maybe Oxlade-Chamberlain back for the weekend and Walcott will be the next one - all the other players are long-term injuries."

"The miracle is that he played at Fleetwood and didn’t play in the Premier League before."
And on Leicester's rise to the top of the table?
"It is a surprise because Leicester fought not to go down last season but when we played them at the Emirates we came to the conclusion there is something special in this team," he added.

"I believe this team is resilient and focused and will return well tomorrow.
"We will be without Coquelin for certainly the next two months.

Five-time world champion O'Sullivan, 39, has not played a competitive match since the World Championship in April.
World number four Murphy told BBC Sport: "It's a shame for the event and fans who bought tickets way in advance.
"Ronnie is an absolute genius on the table. But we know trying to predict his decisions is a waste of time."
Over the weekend, Rory McIlroy won the World Tour Championship in Dubai to finish the season as Europe's number one golfer.
"This is my time to capitalise on my career. The next 10, 15 years is my time," he said afterwards.
Here's BBC Sport golf correspondent Iain Carter's take on things: "He is the most naturally gifted golfer on the planet, but to turn that into domination he has to harness a work ethic to match that of the duo who narrowly lead him in the rankings," he writes.
Plenty of talking points from the weekend's football action in a season where Leicester topping the Premier League is less surprising than a Chelsea victory.
Kasper Schmeichel explains how Leicester have found themselves at the top of the table, Trevor Sinclair talks about pressing football, and you can find out who the only team not to score from a set piece in the Premier League are.
You can see all of that and more on Match of the Day 3 on the BBC iPlayer - it's available right now.

Maccabi Tel Aviv v Chelsea (Tue, 19:45 GMT)
Conor McNamara
BBC Radio 5 live in Haifa
Chelsea would normally arrive at a Champions League location the day before the game, however due to the 5 hour flight from London, the club arrived on Sunday evening - 48 hours before kick-off. This gives extra recovery & preparation time to the players after such a long journey.
The last time Chelsea played in Israel was in 2001. Just a month after the 9/11 attacks. Back then 6 players chose not to travel for the game for security reasons.

The game will not be played in Tel Aviv, but in the northern port city of Haifa where fumes of local petroleum refining are very evident in the breeze. Haifa is very close to the borders with Syria & Lebanon.
Jose Mourinho is due to have his news conference at 14:40 GMT, and I'll be there for BBC Sport.

It's unlikely to have escaped your attention that Leicester are top of the Premier League...
And when you think the Foxes were bottom of the table in April - facing almost certain relegation - it's fair to say it's been quite the turnaround.
Is it all down to Claudio Ranieri's tinkering? Not so, says Kasper Schmeichel.
The Leicester 'keeper has been speaking to BBC Sport's Chris Bevan about the club's remarkable rise, and you can check it out over here.

Andy Murray does not "put enough back" into British tennis, according to former Great Britain Davis Cup captain David Lloyd
"The British players in recent years who have been good - Tim Henman, Greg Rusedski, Andy - they don’t in my opinion put enough back," Lloyd is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.
"They would say “Well, we’re winning this and winning that”. But I don’t mean that. I mean putting your heart and soul into it, a passion that is bigger than the person and even bigger than the game.
"It’s about getting a kid who wants to play for Manchester United to want to play tennis instead. Andy is in such an incredible position with power to do that but he doesn’t. Tim is on the board of the LTA but he’s not out there grabbing people and that disappoints me."

Tottenham 4-1 West Ham
A few vaguely interesting facts from the Spurs-West Ham game..

Spurs have lost just two of their past 20 Premier League home matches (W12 D6 L2).
Tottenham recorded 12 shots on target v West Ham United; no side has managed more in a Premier League game this term.
West Ham have conceded four goals away from home for the first time since December 2013 (v Liverpool).
Kane firing on all cyclinders again
Tottenham 4-1 West Ham

A month ago Harry Kane had one Spurs goal to his name from 13 matches in all competitions ... a bit worrying considering the 22-year-old struck 31 times in 2014-15.
But the England man has dispelled any doubts about his form by scoring in his past five matches for his club, racking up eight goals in the process.
Spurs march on

In the other Sunday Premier League game, Tottenham provided more evidence that they might just be ones to watch this season.
Inspired by a Harry Kane double, Spurs cantered to a 4-1 win over London rivals West Ham and equalled a club record in the process ... making it 12 Premier League games unbeaten
The sides began the day level on 21 points from 12 games - a tally that represents the Hammers' best start to a Premier League season - but it is Tottenham who now find themselves fifth, two points behind fourth-placed Arsenal.
Fight back
Swansea 2-2 Bournemouth
Getty ImagesCopyright: Getty Images
On the pitch, Swansea were in serious trouble when they fell two goals behind to struggling Bournemouth at the Liberty Stadium yesterday - but hit back to grab a draw.
Joshua King and Dan Gosling put the visitors in control to increase the pressure on Swans manager Garry Monk.
Andre Ayew's backheel and Jonjo Shelvey's penalty brought Swansea level at the end of a breathless first half.
"We should be standing here with three points," said Cherries boss Eddie Howe. "We're disappointed but there were a lot of positives."
Barren spell
Football
Monk, 36, took charge in February 2014 following Michael Laudrup's departure.
He guided Swansea to their highest Premier League finish of eighth place last season, but despite a strong start to this campaign, the Swans have won only once since beating Manchester United in August.
Getty ImagesCopyright: Getty Images
That barren spell prompted speculation that Monk was facing the sack, which the former Swansea captain dismissed as the "agenda" of people outside the club.
The draw with Bournemouth, however, has intensified the scrutiny on his future, with boos heard at the Liberty Stadium as the Swans fell 2-0 behind.
Monk on the brink?
Football
So to Garry Monk, who it's fair to say hasn't had the most memorable of seasons at Swansea - one win in the last 10 games prompting speculation about his future at the club.
Well, his mood won't be much better today after the BBC discovered that the Swans board is "considering the position" of the manager.

"Senior board members are concerned by the Swans' run of one win in 10 matches, with the Welsh club lying 14th in the Premier League after Saturday's 2-2 draw with Bournemouth," reports BBC Wales' Dafydd Pritchard.
And a quick entry for tennis fans, with reassurances overnight that Great Britain's Davis Cup final against Belgium"will go on" despite the terror threats affecting Brussels.
The final is due to start on Friday in Ghent, 35 miles from Belgian capital Brussels, which continues to remain under the country's highest security alert.
"Everything is continuing because we believe it will go on," said Gijs Kooken, chief executive the Flemish Tennis Federation (FTF).
"It is an event with international exposure, with 13,000 spectators a day, so it is a risk event, of course, in the current situation - but I'm very confident in our government."

Home (not so) sweet home
Football

Reporter, BBC Radio Merseyside Sport

Maccabi Tel Aviv v Chelsea (Tues, 19:45 GMT)
Our man in Haifa, Conor McNamara, asked Jose Mourinho about his old adversary, Rafa Benitez.
Benitez's future is in doubt, with Real Madrid announcing a press conference later on Monday.
Zero."

Diego Costa has struggled to replicate his stellar form of last season but Mourinho isn't taking the bait on a question about the league's current star striker Jamie Vardy.
"I don't want to anaylse the boy because if I do he will get my words and you will put them into different a perspective about wanting to sign him and I don't want to sign," he said.
"But a super striker like Ruud van Nistelrooy did something historical in the Premier League and Vardy has the chance to go over it."

Jose is in quite good spirits today. By that, we mean he's not shot a journalist a moody look and refused to answer a question.

Mourinho is asked about security concerns. It is fair to say he doesn't have any, or at least that's what he is saying in public.
"The best way is to focus on football and happiness sit gives you. Leave security questions to the people that kow more than we do," said the Chelsea boss.
"We can only focus on playing. I didn’t hear a single problem inside of the squad.
"I have everybody without fears, just wanting to come. I even have a player that tomorrow his wife can have a baby and he is here to play because he knows how important it is for me.

Maccabi Tel Aviv v Chelsea (Tues, 19:45 GMT)
Mourinho recently said the chance of Chelsea retaining their title was now "mission impossible" but what of current leaders Leicester?
"I'm happy for Claudio Ranieri, somebody who when he joined Leicester all the bets were he'd be the first one to be sacked and now he's top of the league," he said.
"But I don't think Ranieri and the Leicester players will be insulted if I say I don't believe they are going to be champions.
"I hope that they feel more my compliments as they are doing amazingly well and deserve all the respect for what they're doing."

And in case you hadn't heard, there's been a bit of a row going on about Andy Murray's contribution to British tennis.
Tim Henman has been standing up for his friend in the face of criticism from David Lloyd, who accused Murray of not doing enough to promote the growth of tennis in Britain.
"I think I'd probably disagree with (David), considering Andy has carried the team to the Davis Cup final," said Henman.

Real Madrid. Thrashed 4-0 at home to rivals Barcelona on Sunday, a reported falling-out between Cristiano Ronaldo and Rafael Benitez, and now president Florentino Perez has called a news conference for 18:30 GMT today.
Will Benitez, who only took over in the summer, be getting the boot? Former Real president Ramon Calderon doesn't think so.
"It's too early, I think Perez will be backing Benitez," he told BBC World Service Sport.
“For me Benitez is not the one to blame. We are already leaders in the Champions League group, we are going to be in the knockouts so it's too early.
"The next matches are easy ones in theory and Benitez will be back."

There was no written contract for the consultation-work payment, which Platini received nine years later.

Mertesacker is also asked about how the two Arsenal players caught up in the Paris attacks were coping.
Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud were playing for France against Germany when there were attacks outside the Stade de France.
"It is a difficult time for a footballer affected by such incidents," says Mertesacker.
"It is a horrible experience but what came out when I spoke to them was that they were quite clear about the situation and quite quickly back to normal.
"I was surprised by that, I thought they’d maybe get affected but as the games come and continue you get back to normal. That’s what we human beings are, fortunately, and (those two players) feel confident and good."

Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker, sitting next to his boss, is managing to get the odd word in.
Asked about tomorrow's game, the German says: "We want to remain in the Champions League for sure.
"It will be difficult for us to do that due to our results and our performances. But we have to give ourselves a chance.
"Let’s remember we beat one of the best teams in Europe at home in Bayern Munich and let’s show that we can produce that type of performance again."

"There are two things about that game - our performance on the day and the fact that they had a doped player.
"But we only focus on our performances and we need to put in a different performance tomorrow."

Wenger also gets asked about Jamie Vardy's achievement of scoring 10 goals in as many Premier League games for Leicester.
Is it a miracle, he's asked? "It is absolutely fantastic but it is not miracle, he has that quality," says Wenger.
"The miracle is that he played at Fleetwood and didn’t play in the Premier League before."
And on Leicester's rise to the top of the table?
"It is a surprise because Leicester fought not to go down last season but when we played them at the Emirates we came to the conclusion there is something special in this team," he added.

Arsenal wasted plenty of chances as they fell to a 2-1 defeat away at West Brom on Saturday but Wenger insists his side will bounce back for a must-win game against Dinamo, despite the injury to Francois Coquelin."We will respond well - we're disappointed but we didn't deserve to lose this game," he said.
"I believe this team is resilient and focused and will return well tomorrow.
"We will be without Coquelin for certainly the next two months.
"We have players like Flamini and Calum Chambers has been educated as a central midfielder so there are good opportunities for other players to show up and show they can do the job."

"It’s about getting a kid who wants to play for Manchester United to want to play tennis instead. Andy is in such an incredible position with power to do that but he doesn’t. Tim is on the board of the LTA but he’s not out there grabbing people and that disappoints me."
Ooh, controversial stuff.
Working hard
Tennis
Recognise this chap?
Tis Mr Andy Murray, who put a video on Instagram which shows him working out at home. Alongside it he posted the message: "Back to work today, two and half hours on court and a versa climber session at home. Thanks for all the the messages of support on social media today and for seeing today's criticism for exactly what it was."
That last line, by the way, refers to this...
History-makers
Football
Barcelona's 4-0 El Clasico victory at the Bernabeu will "go down in history", according to coach Luis Enrique.
Luis Suarez scored twice and Neymar and Andres Iniesta also netted as Barca - for whom Lionel Messi was a second-half substitute - went six points clear of Real at the top of La Liga.
"This victory tastes glorious because it is against our eternal rivals," said Enrique, who played for both sides.
"It will be very difficult for us to better this performance."
Ronaldo rages
Football
Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo is so furious after the defeat to Barcelona that he wants manager Rafael Benitez replaced, reportedly saying: "Either he goes, or I go."
Between angels and the devil
Football
Suspended Fifa president Sepp Blatter has been speaking to Swiss TV following his recent time in hospital.
Sounds a bit more serious than a "small emotional breakdown" though...
Djokovic reigns supreme
Tennis
Is there anybody that can stop Novak Djokovic?
The super Serb capped a remarkable season with victory over Roger Federer to claim a record fourth straight ATP World Tour Finals title.
The world number one broke serve three times to win 6-3 6-4 in 80 minutes at London's O2 Arena, making amends for defeat by six-time champion Federer in the group stage on Tuesday.
"I am enjoying every moment on the court, I cherish every moment after dreaming of it as a kid," Djokovic said.
He ends the year with 11 titles including three Grand Slams, taking his total to 10 majors.

From 4-0 ahead, he produced a 170 checkout in the 10th leg, but trailed 10-9 before clinching the title with an 11-dart finish.
"Peter is a fantastic player and sooner or later he will win a big tournament," Van Gerwen said.
Bale 'going nowhere'
Football
Over in Madrid, Gareth Bale says he has no intention of cutting short his spell at Real Madrid.
The Wales star has consistently been linked with a return to the Premier League, with fresh speculation in the wake of Madrid's 4-0 home loss to arch-rivals Barcelona.
But the 26-year-old said: "I will never say never when it comes to going back to the Premier League, because you don't know what the future holds.
"But I am enjoying my time here and I am very happy."
Stat's the way to do it
Tottenham 4-1 West Ham
Spurs march on
Tottenham 4-1 West Ham
In the other Sunday Premier League game, Tottenham provided more evidence that they might just be ones to watch this season.
Inspired by a Harry Kane double, Spurs cantered to a 4-1 win over London rivals West Ham and equalled a club record in the process ... making it 12 Premier League games unbeaten
The sides began the day level on 21 points from 12 games - a tally that represents the Hammers' best start to a Premier League season - but it is Tottenham who now find themselves fifth, two points behind fourth-placed Arsenal.
Fight back
Swansea 2-2 Bournemouth
"Assistant manager Pep Clotet could also leave, as he is on the shortlist to become Brentford's new boss."
Davis Cup "will go ahead"
Tennis
Coming up shortly...
