Southampton boss Ronald Koeman comments on Fifa's proposals to extend the teams competing in the World Cup to 40 from 32.

"Maybe the Dutch will be happy, more opportunity to qualify," he said.

"Sometimes we have to make it smaller. Sometimes there are too many qualification games for the players. They have to protect them, but they don't."

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says that playmaker Philippe Coutinho is still short of full fitness after sustaining a hamstring injury in the 4-1 win over Manchester City at the end of November.

It had been suggested that the Brazilian was going to appear in the League Cup semi-final against Southampton on Wednesday.

"We were too optimistic. Sometimes happens like this. He can train nearly normally but doesn't feel totally comfortable," says Klopp.

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman is asked about Gary Neville's managerial move to Valencia.

The former Valencia manager said: "It is a difficult place to be. In my time it was difficult, it was not good, it is still difficult.

"It is important to speak the language. Does he? I don't know. His brother is over there but it is not the same if someone else has to translate.

"It will be special for him (working with Phil Neville)."

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman is asked whether forward Sadio Mane will be for sale in January.

He said: "Not in January. Already we spoke about that situation, we sell nobody in January."

When asked will players be sold for the right price, he said: "Nobody, even when they pay £100m."

The midfielder came on as a substitute in the wins over Swansea and Southampton.

    Southampton

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman is unsurprisingly asked about Wednesday's League Cup quarter-final drubbing by Liverpool.

He said: "It was one difficult night and the next day was difficult, because as a manager you analyse the game.

"Six goals and about eight shots on target is brilliant from Liverpool. They punished us with good offensive play but we have to defend better.

"We had many meetings. I expect a reaction, that is the most important thing - for all to have that stable organisation defensively."

Liverpool's news conference is under way and the first question is about fit-again striker Daniel Sturridge in the wake of his two goals against Southampton in the League Cup on Wednesday.

Klopp adds that Sturridge is available for this weekend's meeting with Newcastle as it stands.

Daniel Thornton: An RVP-esque volley (vs Aston Villa, 2013) in an outdoor 5-a-side match about a year ago with my poorer left foot, no less.

MickAshmore: A pal scored direct from a corner, 5 mins later we had 2nd. Step aside son, I took it, curled it straight in.

Berocca Juniors FC: Jake Hawkyard bagged a 250-yard screamer in the FA People's Cup last season to score the team's first ever goal.

    Slight exaggeration there perhaps lads?

It appears Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha has had little bit of a ticking off about diving.

Boss Alan Pardew said: "The one at Leicester was a penalty, but last week was a dive and now he can't play this week. He's had my feelings on it.

"He's been having a great season for us. It's just a tiny aspect of his game he needs to correct.

"He can go past players from a standing start. He is a rare breed. He's a natural wide player. It may be a nice addition for the England squad."

As long as he cuts out the diving Alan?

"We've been consistent this season, though we've lost more games than I would have liked. We need to get the balance right.

"Six or seven draws at the end of the season can jump you up two or three places, but our focus is always on winning."

Speaking to Stoke City Player on Friday, the Welshman said: “It’s likely that he will miss the next three or four weeks which is a huge disappointment to him, just as it is to us.”
