    Shortly after Joe Root reached his century, the gloom descended in Johannesburg and the players were taken off for bad light.

    Rain then started to fall so the umpires have just called a halt to day two of the third Test with England on 238-5, trailing South Africa by 75 runs.

    Steve McClaren adds that new signings Jonjo Shelvey and Henri Saivet could form a midfield partnership together before he assesses the challenge of West Ham on Saturday.

    "We've got to start turning the corner and following up one good result with another one," he says.

    "I admire and respect Slaven Bilic a lot. He came into a difficult job at a difficult time but has settled straight away.

    "West Ham are solid, with good balance and have four or five attackers who can impact a game. That's why they are doing well."

    Swansea's generosity in the transfer window saw them allow midfielder Jonjo Shelvey to join Newcastle for a fee of £12m, aiding their fellow relegation contenders.

    Interim manager Alan Curtis says Englishman Shelvey was not "hounded out" and should not direct any criticism at club

    Shelvey had said, external “the Swansea fans got on my back a bit at the end" and his departure is "Obviously it is going to be Swansea’s loss."

    After sacking manager Garry Monk, Swansea decided to give caretaker manager Alan Curtis the job until the end of the season.

    Curtis accepts his "removal from the club" if they found someone to come and take over before the end of the campaign.

    Former Argentina and Marseille boss Marcelo Bielsa was heavily linked with the job, but a move failed to come to fruition for the Welsh side.

    Newcastle will be without Siem de Jong for the visit of West Ham after the Dutchman suffered a very nasty eye injury in training.

    "Siem sustained an eye injury on Wednesday," said boss Steve McClaren.

    "It looked very serious, he was in hospital and will be out for one or two weeks."

    He adds that there was blood "pouring" from Siem de Jong's eye socket after the incident - the latest in a series of odd injuries for the forward.

    He was out for long periods of last season with a collapsed lung, a condition he also experienced at former club Ajax.

    Swansea interim boss Alan Curtis is in the hot seat and has been talking about possible transfers in and out of the club.

    The Swans are just one place and one point above the relegation zone.

    "Jonathan de Guzman is one of a number of players we looking at, it makes sense to bring in players known to the club," said Curtis.

    He also said it is a "possibility" that defender Frank Tabanou will go out on loan, but denied reports they are in talks with Roma forward Seydou Doumbia."

    Well, Cheick Tiote moving to Shanghai Shenhua is quite a way to kick off a news conference.

    "We know in the last two home games that we created a lot of chances - four goals against Arsenal is a great result," he said.

    "We need that level to beat West Brom as it's a difficult one for us - we haven't scored in three games against them.

    "They are strong, especially in defence and organised. We had a good result against Watford and now we want to continue."

    It has been a masterful counter-attacking innings from the England batsman, who took 126 balls to reach the landmark.

    England are now within 100 runs of the Proteas, who were earlier all out for 313.

    Asked if Wanyama will return to the side, Koeman said: "I have to say that to my players, not to the press.

    "Victor's okay, he has done his training sessions like normal and he's a Southampton player. We've had no offers - I don't speak about rumours."

    "Graziano Pelle is totally involved in Southampton and of course I read the newspapers and the internet but that's your business," he said. "My business is to prepare the team and he will still be our player.

    "The Gaston Ramirez situation is different because he's ending his contract and he's not in the plans for the future of the club."
