Bournemouth may be outside the relegation zone but they're in the bottom three in our Premier League injury table.

On the plus side, the Cherries have suffered fewer than half the number of injuries experienced by Manchester City with 23 compared to a league-high 47.

Yet the severity of them (cruciate knee ligament injuries for Tyrone Mings, Max Gradel and Callum Wilson) mean their players have missed 175 days more than those in Manuel Pellegrini's squad.

The six best-performing teams in injury terms - Watford, Leicester, West Brom, Swansea, Norwich and Southampton - are clubs without European commitments.

It certainly seems to be helping Watford and Leicester in the actual table as well this year.

Sunderland have made an approach for Swansea striker Andre Ayew, according to Sky Sports., external

The 26-year-old had spent the bulk of his career with Marseille, where he made 160 appearances before leaving the south of France last summer. 

This season he has scored seven goals for the struggling Swans who lie just one place above the relegation zone.

Great Britain have won two medals on the opening day of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Hong Kong.

Laura Trott took silver in the scratch race and Emily Nelson, 19, won her first World Cup medal with bronze in the points event.

Two more British medals are guaranteed after the men's and women's sprint teams qualified for the gold races.

The men - featuring Jason Kenny, Philip Hindes and Matt Crampton - will take on Poland in Saturday's final.

England netball have appointed Dan Ryan as head coach of the Under-21 side.

The Manchester Thunder coach will take up the role immediately but will remain in charge of the Superleague side.

Australia international Ryan joins in the build up to the World Youth Netball Cup in Botswana next summer.

“I want to transform the mind-set from focusing on finishing on the podium, to aiming and preparing to be best in the world," said Ryan.

Everton fan and professional boxer Bellew plays 'Pretty' Ricky Conlan in the film, which sees Sylvester Stallone reprise his role as the former world heavyweight champion Rocky Balboa.

Balboa is trainer and mentor to Adonis Johnson - played by Jordan - the son of his former rival Apollo Creed.

Birmingham City have signed Sunderland winger Will Buckley on a one-month loan deal.

Leyton Orient president Francesco Becchetti has been given a six-match stadium ban and fined £40,000 by the Football Association. 

An independent regulatory commission decided the 49-year-old was guilty of a charge of violent contact on Friday. 

He was charged after television pictures appeared to show him kicking O's assistant Andy Hessenthaler after the win over Portsmouth on 26 December. 

Becchetti, who requested a personal hearing, can appeal the decision. 

The Italian, who bought the O's in summer 2014, had accepted his actions were improper but strongly denied it was violent conduct.

In the wake of claims that athletics' governing body helped cover up systematic doping in Russia, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been talking about the potential for football to become embroiled in a similar controversy.  

"We have all to fight against doping," he said. "You and I celebrated super-champions who were maybe only cheats. 

"In football, I think we have ignored doping for a long time. We have neglected it. Now, I think Uefa and Fifa will tackle it seriously."

Bolton's winding-up petition hearing scheduled for 18 January may be delayed, says manager Neil Lennon.

The Championship club are £172.9m in debt and under a transfer embargo until the end of the season for breaching Financial Fair Play rules.

They reportedly need to raise at least £600,000 before Monday, or face going into administration.

"Speaking to [club advisor] Trevor Birch he seems confident that there are things that can be done," Lennon said.

Matches appear to be catching up with Watford and their tight ‘first-team’ squad as they prepare for the trip to Swansea.

Five games in 19 days has resulted in the Hornets picking up just one point in their four Premier League games. Before that where Watford were playing Saturday to Saturday, getting plenty of rest and coach Quique Sanchez Flores was able to do what he does best and work through the week on the training ground, his side won four on the spin. 

The Premier League manager of the month for December does not have strength in depth. He really only has a hard core of 14 players he trusts to can call upon so "first team" players are required in January.
