    Over in Australia it is the semi-final of the Big Bash with Melbourne Stars taking on the Perth Scorchers.

    Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen has just replaced another ex-England star in Luke Wright in the middle for the Stars.

    There is British interest on both sides with Michael Carberry and David Willey in the Scorchers team.

    Pietersen is 13 not out as the Stars chase the Scorchers target of 139 and he has just had come choice words for Willey.

    South African debutant Stephen Cook is closing in on his half-century at lunch on the opening day of the fourth Test against England at Centurion.

    The home side won the toss and are 107-1 with Cook on 46 and Hashim Amla on 34.

    Everton manager Roberto Martinez says Belgian winger Kevin Mirallas will not be leaving in the January transfer window. 

    He said: "Kevin Mirallas has always been a very important player for us. His performance last weekend was his best this season.

    "We hope Kevin can carry on that form now until the end of the season. He won't be going anywhere."

    Martinez also gave an injury update ahead of Sunday's game.

    "Bryan Oviedo is fine. He has been in full training and he'll be available for the weekend

    "James McCarthy has had one session with the group and Seamus Coleman has had two sessions with the group. They're progressing well."

    Everton play Manchester City in the League Cup semi-final second-leg but Roberto Martinez will not let that affect his team selection for Sunday's match against Swansea.

    Martinez said: "The semi-final second leg against Man City next week doesn't impact on selection. We will take it game by game.

    "We have five games in 14 days in three different competitions. It's what we wanted and we'll embrace it.."

    Everton manager Roberto Martinez has been speaking about Leeds United defender Sam Byram, who despite being in talks with the Toffees, signed for West Ham.

    "We identified Sam Byram as a talent, but in the end it wasn't right for us with the squad we have and not the right move for him either."  

    Martinez also touched on Steven Naismith's £8.5m move to Norwich.

    "Steven Naismith's transfer was the best for all parties. We thank him for the memories and wish him all the best."

    England have had to shuffle their squad for the one-day series against South Africa which starts on Wednesday, 3 February.

    Stuart Broad comes in to replace Liam Plunkett, who himself was called up to replace Steve Finn.

    Plunkett has a thigh injury and will instead try to prove his fitness ahead of the T20s, which start on Friday, 19 February.

    Broad's last ODI appearance was in last year's World Cup.

    "When ARC closed down Hereford and Folkestone, for which there are no re-opening plans, it was the first time any long-established track had been shut in over 30 years.

    "The Hereford decision was especially controversial as it followed a confusing dispute with the local authority over the lease, which ARC then refused to release.

    "This news, a notable boost to an area with a high number of trainers, comes as ARC's new management works to shake off its "nasty racecourse group" image gained at least partly because of the original closures."

    The owners of Hereford racecourse have confirmed the track is to be reopened after closing in December 2012.

    Four fixtures will be staged later this year - on Thursday 6 October, Monday 31 October, Wednesday 23 November and Monday 19 December.

    The track, along with Folkestone, was controversially closed by owners, Arena Racing Company. Its new chief executive Martin Cruddace said: “Today’s announcement confirms our long-term commitment to grassroots jump racing in Great Britain.”

    However, there are currently no plans to reopen Folkestone racecourse in Kent.

    World number one Serena Williams swept into the fourth round of the Australian Open after a 6-1 6-1 demolition of Russian teenager Daria Kasatkina.

    She completed the victory in just 44 minutes, the shortest match of the tournament so far.

    Men's top seed Novak Djokovic is on court in his third round match against Andreas Seppi and has just taken a two sets to love lead.
