    Liverpool have made an offer to bring Schalke defender Joel Matip to Anfield before the transfer window shuts, reports the Sun.

    The 24-year-old Cameroon international, who is 6ft 3in, only has six months left on his current contract with the Bundesliga club.

  2. Mavrias seals loan switch to Dusseldorf

    Sunderland midfielder Charis Mavrias has joined Bundesliga 2 side Fortuna Dusseldorf on loan for the remainder of the season. 

    The 21-year-old, who joined the Black Cats from Panathinaikos during the summer of 2013, has made just seven senior appearances and scored a single goal.

  3. Pato in London to complete Chelsea loan

    Brazil striker Alexandre Pato is in London and is set to join Chelsea on a loan deal until the end of the season.

    "I'm so happy to be here, it's my dream," he told Sky Sports. "I need to play so I am happy. I really want to play at Chelsea."

  4. Dunne to make PGA Tour debut

    Irishman Paul Dunne is set to make his PGA Tour debut at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines.

    Dunne hit the headlines last summer when he became the first amateur since 1927 to share the lead of the Open Championship after 54 holes, before eventually finishing 30th at St Andrews.

    The 23-year-old will compete on a sponsor's invite alongside the likes of Rickie Fowler, Justin Rose and Dustin Johnson at the event, which gets under way on Thursday.

  6. 'We understand Guidolin by arm gestures'

    Swansea's new Italian coach Franceco Guidolin may not be able to speak English, but that's no impediment to him getting his message across, says Swans captain Ashley Williams.

    "Francesco does not speak English so well but he is making the effort, which is nice to see," Williams told BBC Sport.

    "But, most of the time, even when he speaks Italian you know what he is saying anyway - because of his arm gestures, you kind of grasp what he is trying to get across."

  7. Hughes leaves Stevenage

    Stevenage defender Mark Hughes has left the club by mutual consent. 

    The 29-year old centre-half made 22 appearances for Stevenage this season following his arrival from Morecambe in the summer, scoring one goal. 

    "The club would like to thank Mark for his time at The Lamex Stadium and wish him all the best for the future," the club said in a statement on his website.

  8. I broke Groves' ribs - Golovkin

    Boxing

    Middleweight world champion Gennady Golovkin has claimed he broke the ribs of Britain's George Groves during a sparring session.

    "For me it was a very easy spar," the Kazakh said. "I broke his ribs I think, and his corner just said 'Okay, it's finished, stop'."

    Golovkin described Groves as a "good boxer", but said he "needs more power".

    Groves faces Andrea Di Luisa at London's Copper Box Arena on Saturday in his first outing since his third unsuccessful world-title fight, against Badou Jack in September.

  9. BreakingRamires leaves Chelsea

    Ramires made 251 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 34 goals, in a five-and-a-half-year spell with the Blues.

    He will be coached in China by another former Chelsea player, Dan Petrescu.   

    "We thank him for his service and wish him well in China," said a club statement. 

    It is believed that Chelsea will receive £25m for the player.

    Derby have not won in five Championship matches and lost by three-goal games in their last two matches but boss Paul Clement is hopeful of causing an FA Cup shock on Friday.

    "We have to continue in our way, stick to our beliefs, build our confidence and I'm confident things will turn for us," says Clement.

    "We don't need any extra motivation. It's a big game & the difficulty I have got is I need to tell some they won't be able to play.  

    "Manchester United have got the quality to turn their situation at any moment. We are going to have be at our absolute best."  

  11. A busy time for Birmingham

    Less than an hour ago, Birmingham said they had let midfielder Andrew Shinnie join Rotherham on a loan deal, and now Blues have completed a transfer of their own.

    Fabbrini had been on loan at Middlesbrough from Watford, but that has been terminated with Birmingham paying the Hornets £1.5m to sign the forward.

    The 25-year-old had a loan spell at Birmingham at the end of last season.

  13. Torres on the move?

    Former Liverpool and Chelsea striker Fernando Torres is set to leave Atletico Madrid after coach Diego Simeone turned down the opportunity to take him on a permanent deal from AC Milan, reports the Daily Mail.

    Torres, 31, has only scored two La Liga goals this season and his agent Jose Antonio Martin has claimed that the player has received eight offers, including from clubs in China and Qatar.

  15. Rotherham sign Birmingham's Shinnie

    Rotherham United have signed Birmingham City midfielder Andrew Shinnie on loan until the end of the season.

    The 26-year-old Scot joined Blues from Inverness in July 2013 and has scored four goals in 67 league appearances.

    "I think there are not many players at this moment who are more hungry to prove something than him," Saintfiet told the BBC World Service.

    Luckily, Tom Saintfiet, the head coach of Togo has been speaking to BBC World Service.

    "He loves football so he played every day with friends, ex professionals, current professionals, players based in Europe who returned for a holiday," says Saintfiet.

    "He played with his friends here, local football, street football - these were pitches without much grass, a little bit bumpy. Football is his passion and he loves the game. It's not about the stadium or the pitch it's about the love of touching that ball and kicking it around."

    It has been an easy day for England's Under-19s side in the Under-19 ICC Cricket World Cup in Bangladesh.

    Centuries from Dan Lawrence (174) and Jack Burnham (148) helped take England to 371-3 from their 50 overs, before Fiji were bowled out for only 72.

    Saqib Mahmood (3-2) and Sam Curran (3-22) impressed with the ball as England eased to a huge 299-run victory in Chittagong.

    Things may get tougher for England in their second match as they play the West Indies on Friday.
