  2. Match facts

Manchester City v Everton (19:45 GMT)

    • Manchester City have only once overturned a semi-final first-leg deficit to reach the final. They beat Middlesbrough 4-0 in 1976, after losing the first leg 1-0. City went on to lift the trophy.
    • This is only the second time in five League Cup semi-final appearances in which Everton held a lead going into the second leg. They beat Aston Villa in the first leg in 1984, progressing to the final.
    • The Citizens have never lost at home in a cup competition to Everton (W3 D1), although they last hosted the Toffees in the FA Cup in March 1981.
    • Romelu Lukaku has scored four goals in five League Cup appearances this season.
  3. Managers' view

Manchester City v Everton (19:45 GMT)

City manager Manuel Pellegrini: "It's the third time we'll play Everton in one month - we know their team.

"The most important thing is to try to play another final at Wembley. That is our target. If we don't qualify for the final, it's not because of [the first leg] but because we can't win at home at least 1-0.

"Our team will do all they can to get there too."

Everton manager Roberto Martinez: "Disappointments are painful at the moment because results have not been fair in reflecting the efforts and football we have played.

"Getting a big achievement and reach something quite special could help to that positive outlook in our games. It will be an enormous landmark for the club if we can reach the final of the League Cup."

  4. Team news

Manchester City v Everton (19:45 GMT)

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini says Willy Caballero will take over from Joe Hart in goal for Wednesday's League Cup semi-final second leg.

Eliaquim Mangala, Vincent Kompany, Aleksandar Kolarov, Wilfried Bony and Samir Nasri remain sidelined.

Everton, who lead 2-1 after the first leg, will be without two key players. Midfielder Muhamed Besic (hamstring) and winger Kevin Mirallas (tendon) suffered injuries in the Premier League defeat against Swansea on Sunday.

There will be live commentary on BBC Radio 5 live.

  9. BreakingFury warned by British boxing body

    Boxing

Tyson Fury has been reminded of his responsibilities by the British Boxing Board of Control following comments he made last year.

Fury caused controversy over derogatory remarks he made about women, and for criticising homosexuality and abortion.

The Board said it could "not interfere with his human right [to free expression]" but had reminded him that "as world heavyweight champion, arguably the holder of the most prestigious title in sport, there are heavy responsibilities upon him to avoid making controversial, non-boxing comments."

Italy begin their campaign against France on 6 February.

  13. Sunderland 'thrash Newcastle in secret derby'

    Football

How about this for a bizarre Wednesday story? It's being reported that Sunderland and Newcastle have played out a secret Tyne-Wear derby behind closed door - with Black Cats running out 6-0 winners.

The question is, does this one count towards local bragging rights? If so, it's Sunderland's seventh win in a row!

  15. I should get rid of players - Bentley

    Football

    Morecambe boss Jim Bentley

Morecambe boss Jim Bentley claimed he would sell some of his players if he could after they conceded two late goals to lose at home to Mansfield.

The Shrimps were leading through a Paul Mullin penalty but with four minutes to go, Chris Clements and Adi Yussuf secured three points for the Stags.

Asked about the performance, Bentley told BBC Radio Lancashire: "Shocking, absolutely shocking.

"There would be a few of them (the players) I would empty out right away if I had a couple of quid to bring a few players in, because they were weak and lacked character."

  16. Sunderland 'continue Kone talks'

    Football

The 19-year-old, who has penned a three-and-a-half year deal, becomes the first Swansea signing since Francesco Guidolin was appointed as head coach last week.

"It feels great. I never thought I would get the opportunity to join a Premier League club," Blair told the official Swansea website.

  18. Jones removes Schwarzenegger quote

    Rugby Union

    Arnold Schwarzenegger

Ever since the contract of Stuart Lancaster was terminated, new England rugby union coach Eddie Jones has wasted no time in stamping his own mark on the role...and that includes tossing his predecessor's beloved inspirational quotes in the skip.

The inscriptions have been removed from the walls of the squad's Surrey training base. Among them is this pearl of wisdom from Arnold Schwarzenegger.

"Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength."

"I'm not a big fan of his movies," Jones said. So perhaps Arnie is gone for good. Or maybe, just maybe...he'll be back.

Philip Clyde: Surely the 2005 Champions League final penalty shootout is up there with the best. Dudek saving Shevchenko's penalty!

Adam Bilyj: Saving a penalty in a university cup game and then two in the shootout and scoring the winner. Scenes.

  20. Sturridge is world class - Rodgers

    Football

Former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has described Reds striker Daniel Sturridge as "world class" and backed him to come good at Anfield.

"Daniel is a great fella and he wants to play, but it is just difficult for him to get a run of training," Rodgers told Talksport.

"What is so frustrating as a manager is that he is a genuine world-class player. Nine out of 10 players, in that situation you maybe would sell, but because of his talent Liverpool haven't.

"Daniel is a player that makes a difference. When you have that type of player you want to do everything you can for him. He makes the team better. He makes everyone else better. He has got everything."
