The absence of Andy Murray and Milos Raonic may not prevent a dramatic weekend from unfolding in snowy Ottawa, but after the thrills of the Australian Open, the Davis Cup is struggling to make its voice heard as it returns for another year.  

Great Britain start clear favourites to reach the quarter-finals for the fourth year in a row. While Dan Evans and Kyle Edmund are both ranked in the world's top 50, Canada are unable to field any singles players in the top 100. And they are not alone.

Egypt will attempt to win the fourth consecutive Africa Cup of Nations in which they have competed when they face Cameroon in Sunday's final.

The Pharaohs, among the tournament favourites from the outset in Gabon, were victorious in 2006, 2008 and 2010 before failing to qualify for the next three editions in 2012, 2013 and 2015.

Underdogs Cameroon have upset the odds to reach the final, beating much-fancied Ghana in the last four.

The game is a repeat of the 2008 final.

Cameroon's squad includes two British-based players, Hearts midfielder Arnaud Djoum and Clinton N'Jie, although the latter is on loan at Marseille from Tottenham.

Parliament is to debate a motion of no confidence in the governance of the Football Association on 9 February.

The Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee will address whether the FA can "comply fully with its duties".

Whether the FA's structure makes reform impossible will also be examined and the government may be called on to intervene in the matter.

The motion comes after five former FA executives said the governing body had failed to "self-reform".

Another thing that's happening this weekend is World Cancer Day, external on Saturday. 

We've had some inspiring stories of people who have battled the disease while remaining active - like dancer Amy Uprichard from Northern Ireland, who is determined to show other cancer sufferers that "you can just fight it and achieve your dreams while doing it".

Rebecca Griffiths from Huntingdon also inspired so many people as she fought bowel cancer and completed numerous running events with Team Bex, external, but sadly lost her battle on 1 July 2016.

Beating cancer inspired Will Bayley to table tennis success.

And how about oncologist (a cancer doctor) Lucy Gossage who has gone from dabbling in triathlon in her spare time to becoming one of the world's leading Ironman athletes., external

The venue for the golf tournaments at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will hold a board meeting next week to consider ending its ban on women becoming full members, local media have reported. 

It comes after calls to shift the tournament from the private Kasumigaseki Country Club in Saitama province because of the rule, which allows women to play Monday to Saturday but bars them from becoming full members and from playing on Sundays.

The Tokyo Olympic organising committee sent a letter to the club on Thursday appealing for it to reconsider the policy.

The 19-year-old gymnast says she wouldn't have won her four gold medals if it hadn't been for the physique she has.

Former Watford and Coventry boss Aidy Boothroyd has been confirmed as manager of the England Under-21 team.

The Under-20 boss replaces Gareth Southgate, who vacated the role to become England manager after the departure of Sam Allardyce.

Boothroyd, 45, took charge for the U21 side's final two Euro 2017 qualifiers and secured qualification for this summer's finals in Poland.

"I've been at the FA three years; this is the logical next step," he said.

"I believe I am here on merit because I've worked in all four divisions and I've got an understanding of speaking to a League Two manager or a Premier League manager and the problems they have."

British Basketball returns to BBC Sport this evening with a top of the table clash as Glasgow Rocks welcome Leicester Riders to the Emirates Arena.

Glasgow start the game in third place in the BBL table but host a Leicester side in excellent form without a defeat in their last five games and currently sitting top of the table.

Leeds United chairman Massimo Cellino's 18-month ban from football has been reduced to a year after a successful appeal against the decision.

The Italian was given the suspension in December for breaching the Football Association's agent rules over the sale of Ross McCormack to Fulham in 2014.

Cellino, 60, and the club were also both fined £250,000, but his fine has now been reduced to £100,000 and the club's to £200,000. His ban will begin on 18 February.

It's not only the men's Six Nations that kicks off this weekend. The women's equivalent gets under way, too, with Scotland hosting Ireland this evening,followed tomorrow by Wales v Italy and - arguably the pick of the ties - England v France at Twickenham.
