Contract negotiations with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil have been put on hold until the summer, says Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

Chilean forward Sanchez and German midfielder Ozil, both 28, have just over a year left on their deals.

Wenger says  he has made up his mind  about his own future, but is yet to sign the two-year extension on offer.

"At the moment we have not got an agreement," said Wenger when asked about the future of Sanchez.

IBF world welterweight champion Kell Brook will defend his title against American Errol Spence Jr at Bramall Lane in Sheffield on Saturday 27 May.

Brook, 30, has not fought since he was defeated by middleweight champion  Gennady Golovkin in September  - his first professional defeat in 37 fights.

Brook claimed the IBF belt beating Shawn Porter in August 2014 and will be aiming for his fourth title defence.

"I'm so excited about this fight and to make history in my city," said Brook.

Despite conflict entering a seventh year, the 16-team Syrian Premier League is still going and the international team harbour hopes of making it to the biggest stage of all, the World Cup.

The national team can't play qualifiers in Syria and face a 9,000-mile round-trip to Malaysia to play their "home" games.

Syria have already beaten China away and sit fourth in their World Cup group, five points from an automatic qualifying spot.

As part of the BBC's State of Sport week, we spoke to the team as they prepared for their next qualifier against Uzbekistan in Kuala Lumpur.

Armin Hary (athletics) - German who won 100 metres gold at the 1960 Olympics, born 1937.

Paul Schockemohle (equestrian) - German who won three successive European showjumping titles in the 1980s, born 1945.

Jiri Novak (tennis) - former Czech player, born 1975.

Arvind Parmar (tennis) - Former British Davis Cup player, born 1978.

Piotr Trochowski (football) - FC Augsburg and Germany midfielder, born 1984.

There was speculation that the top two teams in the world - New Zealand and England were set for a showdown in November.

But alas, that won't happen. The All Blacks will play a Barbarians team on 4 November at Twickenham.

It would have been an extra autumn international for England who are already due to play Australia, Argentina and Samoa in November.

It seems like Gareth Southgate is set to experiment with three centre-backs with Burnley’s Michael Keane starting alongside Chris Smalling and Gary Cahill. Manchester City's John Stones appears to be set for a start against Lithuania in Sunday's World Cup qualifier at Wembley. 

And good news for West Brom's Jake Livermore, who is expected make his first England appearance since the friendly with Italy in August 2012.

England (expected): Hart; Keane, Smalling Cahill; Walker, Dier, Livermore, Bertrand, Lallana, Alli, Vardy.

England boss Gareth Southgate suggested that the national team setup needs to learn and take advice from successful footballing nations like Germany in order to improve its own framework - which in turn could lead to future success.

The ex-Boro boss said: "We can learn from their mentality. When we've played German teams they just have that belief in the way they play."

Joe Gallagher looks to the ground and shrugs: "Crolla's caught me crying in the changing rooms. That's how it is. You take it personally."

Dealing with defeat as a boxing trainer was just one topic we covered in an interview with Anthony Crolla's trainer. We watched on as Crolla worked out behind closed doors last week and spoke to Gallagher about boxing costing him his marriage, how he picks a fighter to train and when he will call it a day in this all-consuming sport.

This is the stats board which hangs in Gallagher's Gym - where the likes of Anthony Crolla, Liam Smith and Callum Smith train.

While the spotlight may be on trainer Joe Gallagher and Crolla ahead of Saturday's WBA lightweight title shot against Jorge Linares, the journey to the top has been long in the making - Gallagher began coaching in 1993.

BBC Sport were allowed to sit in on Crolla's last big training session, where we spoke at length with Gallagher as his charge sparred, slammed the bags and stretched impressively.

Gallagher says: "When Anthony came to me, people said: 'He won't do anything. He's too nice, can't punch. He might win an English title.' I thought: Really? I'll show you."

It may only be 12 months since England met Germany in a friendly in Berlin - in which Roy Hodgson's side came from two goals down to beat the World Cup holders 3-2 - but anticipation is mounting again here in Dortmund.

England fans are flooding into Germany and this is a fixture manager Gareth Southgate admits has an edge stretching back half a century.

He said: "Unquestionably. It is one of the fixtures that all of our supporters look towards, like when we play Scotland, It is that sort of rivalry.

"There have been some classic matches over a period of 50 years. It is a fixture that everyone looks forward to.

"I guess this is a little bit different when you look at the players they have got missing as well but it's a really exciting game and a great test for us."
