Mike W: If Hart and Henderson make the England squad then what has Southgate been watching for three months?

Charlie Beny: Lewis Dunk would be the best choice bar none, to play on the left of a back three. Watching him develop over six years, he has the ability that no one else in the squad possesses, the attitude we need and the traits that fit perfectly in the system Southgate has used.

Mollie: Would love Jonathan Hogg to be called up. Absolutely incredible player, who is so consistently good for attack and defensive play. May be too soon though for him?

    Football

Fulham's Ryan Sessegnon has been called up to the England Under-21 squad for the first time.

The Under-21s host Romania in a friendly at Wolves on March 24 before their Euro 2019 qualifier against Ukraine at Bramall Lane in Sheffield on March 27.

Fair play to a certain former Liverpool defender.

Jamie Carragher could have easily stayed at home for a few days/weeks until the fallout from his suspension by Sky Sports had died down.

But here he is with a fair press pack in tow at a launch of the ‘Run for the 96 5K' in Stanley Park in Liverpool this morning with Alan Kennedy and Graeme Sharp. His charity foundation is supporting the run.

Gareth Bale is in the squad along with uncapped Brentford defender Chris Mepham and Connor Roberts, Billy Bodin and Michael Crowe receive first calls.

Not a Burnley fan but if Pope, Tarkowski and Mee aren't in the England squad then it's a travesty. There's a reason Burnley are so solid, and those three are it.

    Steve M

Jonathan Hind: If Wilshere and Hart are picked, we will have no chance at the World Cup. Pope, Lowton, Mee, Tarkowski, Davies, Lascelles, Dunk should all be called up.

Jamie Macdonald: Lascelles has been class all season and deserves a call up. Shelvey likewise is in fantastic form, and offers something different compared to most of our central midfielders.

    Everton

Everton manager Sam Allardyce was speaking earlier ahead of the weekend's meeting with Stoke, with an emphaisis on the injury to club-record signing Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The club had suggested in a statement on Wednesday the Iceland midfielder's knee injury would sideline him for six to eight weeks, however, Alladyce was unhappy with that estimation.

"Someone gave out the wrong statement. It can be less than that. Whoever gave that statement out is going to get a b********g today - so well done," said the Toffees boss.

"You cannot predict a length of injury in its entirety because you have people who heal quicker. Obviously Gylfi's recovery time could be shorter than we might expect.

"Medics and specialists give a conservative view and you try to beat that and try to get Gylfi back as soon as you can."

Giggs names first Wales squadpublished at 12:49 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2018

    Football

Gareth Bale is included but there is no Aaron Ramsey for the games against China and either Czech Republic or Uruguay in the China Cup.

Giggs says Arsenal midfielder Ramsey, who is expected to play for the Gunners in the second leg of their Europa League tie with AC Milan tonight, would undergo a "small procedure" after the match at the Emirates.

The Wales boss added: "This is a good time for Aaron to have it done."

Giggs also revealed that Reading midfielder David Edwards had retired from international football. The 32-year-old had won 43 caps.

The former Manchester United star has added Albert Stuivenberg and Tony Strudwick to his coaching staff. He worked with both during his time at Old Trafford. As expected, Giggs has retained Osian Roberts and Tony Roberts.

It's too simplistic to say Liverpool & Man City played against weak teams. Yes, they aren't Barcelona-quality, but Basel & Porto were good enough to get past the group stages of the biggest football competition in the world, and Liverpool & Man City spanked them. We have to remember that Barcelona, Real Madrid & Bayern are special teams - not the norm. But even they are still beatable. The reason the Premier LEague is the best League is because of the mixture of quality and competitiveness. Five teams in the second round, and two in the quarters hardly spells weak.

    Jon

Berating English teams for lacking experience or quality versus "The Best"? I seem to remember Liverpool, Forest and Villa beating "The Best" without the need for expensive foreign imports. Not sure what's happened as we now have the so called "Best League" with the most money with some of "The Best" players. Sadly, it's a game of assets against assets who are expendable and few of them have affinity for their club - just their ego's, inflated salaries and image rights.

You have also been sharing your thoughts ahead of today's England squad announcement.

Surely Tarkowski and Mee should be considered given Burnley’s defensive record this season plus Pope in goal who has been outstanding!

    Anon

Neil: If Joe Hart gets anywhere near the England squad today that will be my lot with them for the rest of my life.

Surely it's worth Southgate giving Lascelles a go now? Been consistently outstanding this season in one of the busiest defences in the league.

    Football

    Everton

Everton manager Sam Allardyce has been speaking to the media ahead of the weekend's trip to Stoke in the Premier League.

"I'm focusing on the first team achieving the safety mark and then thinking about recruitment and pre-season after that.

"We have a squad of players eager to do well at Stoke on Saturday. Paul Lambert has made them difficult to beat and using the new players to be more creative."

On Gylfi Sigurdsson - "Its a blow. Hopefully his recovery time will be shorter than expected. It's been a tough time in terms of injuries.

When will people stop comparing the Premier League to teams? Yes English teams are maybe not as strong as Barcelona or Real Madrid, but the Premier League is so much better to watch. Six teams fighting for the title and can lose to the bottom teams at any time. La Liga is a two horse race. Please stop saying the Premier League is not all that every time a Premier League team loses to foreign opposition!

    George, London

The Premier League is the best league in terms of entertainment/ drama but this definitely has a knock on affect in Europe. There are very few easy games whilst teams like Barcelona/Madrid/ Bayern etc only have to break sweat for a handful of games each season.

    Felix

People saying Liverpool and City had an easy ride. Fair enough, but what's United's excuse? Sevilla aren't that great. Also Spurs blew a great chance against an ageing Juventus side. To be fair to Chelsea, they were unfortunate hitting the post so many times.
