"They said I had tonsillitis and a throat infection. It just wasn’t right and I was so weak and they couldn’t get my temperature down so I had to be sent to another hospital and I was put on a drip, so I reckon now thinking back on it I must have had coronavirus."

"It's one of the hardest things to do, it's like herding cats," Nevin told BBC Radio 5 live. "You're not just talking to players, it's players and their wives and partners. Some will be 'this is my money I want to keep it all' - others are ultra generous. Also it sounds simple, "give 50% away" but where are they going to give their money to and how is it going to be used? It's hard for Wayne - or indeed anyone - to organise."

  12. Uefa could 'refuse or evaluate' admissionpublished at 15:06 British Summer Time 23 April 2020

    Uefa HQImage source, Getty Images

European governing body Uefa will reserve the right to refuse or evaluate the admission of any club if the grounds for prematurely concluding the season are not deemed legitimate, or the process for selecting clubs is not deemed to be objective, transparent and non-discriminatory.

It will also look at a team's admission if there is "a public perception of unfairness" in their qualification. A Uefa fixtures working group is examining two scenarios - European club competitions running in parallel with domestic action, as in normal circumstances, or domestic matches being completed before continental competition restarts in August.

  13. Uefa issues demands over ending competitions earlypublished at 14:40 British Summer Time 23 April 2020

Uefa says its member national associations must follow "objective, transparent and non-discriminatory" principles to decide which clubs should compete in the 2020-21 Champions League and Europa League in the event they cannot finish their seasons because of coronavirus.

It stressed that competitions terminating early must provide "legitimate" grounds to do so, which Uefa defines as an official order from government or other authority prohibiting sporting events, or an inability to play on due to "insurmountable economic problems" and where to do so would put at risk the long-term financial stability of the competition concerned.

Anderson is England’s leading Test wicket-taker with 584 dismissals, with Broad in second place at 485.

Broad has been talking about the impact the lockdown could have on his career.

"I need aims and guidelines to motivate me,” he said. "Last summer I had the Ashes as an aim.

"If we went eight weeks without bowling at 22, it wouldn’t be an issue, but at our age if I go six or seven weeks without getting the loads through the body then I don't know how I'd react when I get bowling again.

"That first game in pre-season, whatever fitness you’ve done, it's going to hurt.

"I'm trying to tick over as much as I can for when and if we get a nod this summer so I don't feel way behind.

"But let's be honest - whatever anybody does, it will take a few weeks to get match fitness because bowling is such a unique thing."

  20. Euro qualification on 'sporting merit'published at 12:12 British Summer Time 23 April 2020

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Qualification for next season’s European competitions will be decided ‘on sporting merit’ if domestic leagues cannot finish, BBC Sport understands.

During Tuesday’s video conference of all 55 national associations, the idea was floated by the Spanish FA of places being allocated on the basis of club co-efficient.

This would have benefitted Atletico Madrid, who are currently outside the top four in La Liga, at the expense of Real Sociedad. It would also have had the knock-on effect of Manchester United qualifying to the Champions League at the expense of Leicester.

It was always felt the idea would fail to gain any widespread support and it is understood a meeting of Uefa’s executive committee determined this morning that the current season should be the deciding factor.

The precise details are yet to be explained, although it is expected Uefa will release a statement at some point on Thursday.
